“Flying” Rowan Tree (A Wood Elemental)

Keywords: eldritch, aboreal, cephalopod

In Celtic and Norse mythology, Rowan saplings were seen

growing high in the boughs of Scotch Pine and other
large trees. The tribal people told stories about how the
Rowan Spirit could fly from perch to perch (in reality,
seeds from Rowan berries in bird droppings would grow
in the small ammount of soil that collected in the larger
trees).

• This Rowan Elemental uses the ‘Ballooning’ technique

(used by spiders) to travel long distances.

• Specimens seen are usually small (with the major body

mass being large cat or racoon-sized).

• Larger Named Elementals are rumored to exist, some

so large that they have lost the ability to ‘Balloon’, or
have even ‘Rooted’ and become imobile.

• They will occasionally eat insects, although it is mostly

interested in kernels of True Elemental Water and Air.

• They are very social with the Birds in their territory

(because Birds spread the Rowan Seeds). Sometimes it is
heard singing wordlessly to the local birds.

Concept Breakdown

Parlainth, the “forgotten City”

Keywords: ancient, mysterious, jumbled

Built with Theran labor and money long ago, the great
city of Parlainth marks the far northeast corner of Bar-
saive. In the time before the Scourge, it served as the First
Theran Empire’s provincial capital and the home of the
Overgovernor.

To protect their fair city from the Scourge, the Theans did
not transform it into a citadel, as did many other cities,
but chose a different method of protection. They shifted
the entire city into one of the netherworlds of astral
space, wiping knowledge of its existence from every
citizen’s mind, believing that this was the only way to
keep Parlainth safe from the Horrors.

• “Theran” Architecture mixes Roman, Greek, Egytian, Az-

tec, and some Byzantine, and Renaissance style stone-
work.

• A new adventurer population has built and repaired

buildings by using the city as a quarry. This new Town
of Haven in the city’s south east corner serves as a awy
station and trading post.

• Final peice should incorporate the new/old as well as a

sense of the mysterious.

• Located approximately where Ykaterinberg lies in the

real world Ural Mountains, Russia.
