2. Remarks.
Issues with Cockroaches
Due to their close association with filth (feeding and breeding in highly unsanitary
environments like sewers, garbage dumps and drains) and their indiscriminate
wandering in premises, they are capable of spreading diseases. Thus, they
contaminate any food and area they get in contact with.
Among the many diseases that are spread by cockroaches are: Dysentery,
diphtheria, typhoid, hepatitis, food poisoning and gastroenteritis.
Ants, like honey bees, and termites, are social insects and live in colonies. The
colonies are usually found in ground or in wood, but may also be located in
debris or in buildings.
Most ants live in a caste system, comprising of queen, king, soldier and worker.
The most common caste sighted by man is worker ants. Winged ants, the
potential King and Queen, are swarming in search for new nesting sites. They
are most often seen during the monsoons
They come in all shades of color and are, in relation to their size, incredibly
strong: One ant can lift a load of 40 times its body weight.
Tell-tale signs of infestation are their presence, occasionally the wings of the
swarmers that drop off after flight. Some species of ants create mud tunnels to
protect themselves from sunlight and dehydration.
Various studies have reputed that ants are potential mechanical vector of
diseases by carrying bacteria such as Pseudomonas, Salmonella, etc. This
comes from their habit of feeding on a wide variety of food, such as soiled linen,
excrement and septic dressings.
Some species of ants have a painful sting, while others have strong mouthparts
that can easily cut open human skin.
Their small size enables them to penetrate food and other packages, causing
damage and contamination
Implications of problems
Their search for food and their small size makes them enter the premises, where
they do damage by contaminating the food and areas they get in contact with.
Losses will occur, when ants are entering sealed places, or packaged food,
which makes a disposal of the contaminated items unavoidable. In addition to
this, the costs for maintenance and cleaning will increase significantly.
