.CONCEPTS
The substances taking part in a chemical reaction are called reactants. Substances
formed as a result of the reaction are called the products.
When a chemical equation is written, the number of the atoms of the same kind, on
the side of reactants and that of products should be equal. This type of chemical of
chemical equations is called balanced chemical equations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Enables the pupil to develop,
1. Factual knowledge on chemical equations by,

Recalling the concept of atoms and molecules.

Recognizes the concept atoms and molecules.

2. Conceptual knowledge on chemical equations by,

Explaining properties of chemical equations.

Demonstrating using examples.

3. Procedural knowledge on chemical equations by,

Doing and observing activities based on it.

Raising questions.

4. Metacognitive cognitive knowledge on chemical equations by,

Focusing on concept of chemical equations.

5. Develops different process skills like inferring, observing and communicating.

6. Develops a positive attitude towards science.

PRE-REQUISITES
Students are familiar with the atoms and molecules.
TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES
Activity card, games
REFERENCE BOOKS

Textbook of standard 9

Handbook of standard 9

CLASS ROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE

PUPILS RESPONSE

Are you interested in cooking?

Yes
Dosha, omplate

What all things you have tried at your home?

Today we can study a topic in a different way?
Now we can study chemistry in a different way?
ACTIVITY-1
Teacher gives the students the activity card which contains the
name of elements as jumbled letters.
CALCIUM
MICCAULCOPPER
ROPCEP UNIFIREOL-

NIIDOE
ITSHUMB-

Do you know the name given for the substance that is taken
part in the reaction with other substance?

ACTIVITY-3
The cooking recipient contains a fixed amount of each of the
ingredients. Similarly there is a fixed ratio for the formation of
every compound.
Teacher gives the students activity card for finding the number
of atoms in the reactants and products.

RECIEPE FOR MAKING MgO2

At first take magnesium and then oxygen.

Mix both of them.

Then we get the compound named magnesium oxide.

CONSOLIDATION
Magnesium reacts with oxygen and form magnesium oxide.

CONSOLIDATION
The substance that is taking part in the reaction is called
reactants. The substance formed as a result of reaction is called
products. The number of similar atoms in reactants and
products is same in a chemical equation.

REVIEW QUESTIONS
1. What are atoms and molecules?
2. What are reactant and product?
3. What is the balanced chemical equation?
FOLLOW-UP-ACTIVITY
Write down the equations for the chemical reactions familiar to you and try to balance?
