COURSE OBJECTIVE
The objective of this course is to give an
introduction to the Indonesian economy, including
some historical background to its current economic
systems. It analyses the development of Indonesias
economic structure in the area of agriculture,
industry and services, economic policies and
current issues related to the contemporary
Indonesian economy. Having taking the course,
students can analyze the workings, dynamics,
problems, and policies of the Indonesian economy.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course begins with history and the explanation
of strategic environment which influence the
condition and decision of Indonesias economic
policies. It will discuss an overview of Indonesian
economic development since colonialism era. The
course requires and will further develop your skills
of identifying recent trends and events,
collaborating with classmates to address discussion
questions, and testing competing explanations for
Indonesia economic performance such as economic
growth, unemployment, competitiveness, and
poverty.

COURSE OUTCOME
The students are able to understand
the Indonesian economy including
internal and external challenges,
history, recent changes, and the
impacts of macroeconomic, sectoral,
and regional policies.

Class attendance is required. According to the faculty regulation that every student
has to attend the class in minimum of 80%, less than it will result in academic
consequent.
The course will have two formal exams (midterm and final). It is important to be able
to explain your understanding of particular concepts in the Indonesian economy,
internal and external challenges, history, macro-environment, sectoral and regional
policies.
Each student will have to prepare a paper of maximum 25 pages and 20 minutes to
present each chapter assigned. The content of your paper has to include WHAT IS
the nature and dimension of problem, WHY such problem becomes important to
the economy, and HOW the problem may bring some impacts to the economy.
Students are required to form groups consisting of 5-6 people to do assignment in
each session. Any data used should be in up-dated. For your reference, a list of
recommended readings is provided at the end of the syllabus. A good way to earn an
A in this course is to enrich your contributions to discussion and your responses to
exam/essay questions by drawing from the recommended readings and exploring
relevant data/websites.
