GENERAL

MICROWAVE WORLD
.Today in the hi-tech world we use more & more in wireless
.The microwaves provide us solution to supply information from point to point
:The microwave provides us solution to
.Mountains .1
.Roads .2
.Trees .3
.Sea .4
.This is jest same of the list but, not all is good in the wireless microwave
:The microwave have disadvantage to example
Many mechanical faults .1
.Weather .2
?Why we use in microwave & not in optical fiber
.First because not always we can use with optical fiber
.Second microwave is cheaper

Background
.The nokia flexihopper microwave radio is available to 7, 13,15,18,23,26, 38 and 58 GHz frequency band
.The radios indoor and outdoor units are connected together with a flexbus
.The flexbus is a signal coaxial cable, which carries all the signals between indoor and outdoor units
.It also carries the power to the outdoor unit
.The distance between indoor and outdoor unit can be up to 300 meters
.To long distance link we use in low band frequency and big antenna
.To short distance link we use in high band frequency and small
Nokia flexihopper microwave radio support plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH) capacity of
.2x2, 2x4, 2x8, 2x16Mbps
.The plus in nokia equipment is that we have the option to change the capacity without change the material
.The change made by the software

CHECK THE EQUIPMENT

.To promise a quality work without errors we will check our self before and after the work
.We need to check before the installation that we have all equipment that we need to execute the work
.We check if the we have the correct antenna support with all the materials
.We check that we have the correct radio like the plane
.We check that we have the correct antenna like the plane
.We check that we have the correct indoor unit (FXCRRI or FIU) like the plane
.We check that we have enough RG223 cable
.We check that we have all the require tools
We check that we have enough BNC and TNC connector
.We check that we have enough reserve parts
.After we made all the checks we prepare to work
This level calls risk management. From this point we know what expect us and we dont be surprise in the
.middle of the work

Installation

:OUTDOOR UNIT
.The installation is one of the important levels if, the installation dont be good we work more hard
.The first level in the installation is the planning
.The planning step is to bild the all installation in the head step by step. In this way we minimize the errors
.When we start the equipment installation is very important to tie the equipment in two places
.After

we finish the antenna support installation we need to verify that the antenna support doesn't move

Before the installation of the antenna we need to check the polarization and the type (frequency band & size)
.and if necessary, to change the polarization or the antenna
.The next step is to install the antenna. The antenna needs to be 90 degrees to the antenna support
It will give us more tied antenna to the antenna support in this way we prevent any movement and we keep on
.stabile link
Before the installation of the coupler we need to check the polarization and the type (frequency band) and if
.necessary, to change the polarization or the coupler
.If the antenna feeder is protected with a cover or tape, remove it before the installing the radio or the coupler
Radio1 is always behind the antenna (more close to the antenna support) and radio2 is in front of
.radio1
.The next step is to mark the flexbus cable in the edge and connect to the outdoor unit
.Connect the ground cable to the radios
Bring the cables (ground & flexbus) in maximum 45 degrees down to the antenna support and from there tie
.(but not too much) & esthetic way without loops to the indoor unit
.Tight and sealed the connector in the radios
.Connect the ground cable to the base bar (MGB) in the bottom of the tower
In antenna 1.2m & more we add azimuth bar to avoid any move from the antenna. The azimuth bar installation
.made after the alignment
When we connect the azimuth bar to the antenna we need to connect multimeter & see that the signal dont
.change and to check in the computer too
The azimuth bar needs to connect between the antenna & the tower in angle that will be maximum 20 degrees to
.avoid any movement from the antenna

:INDOOR UNIT

Indoor unit in nokia equipment is very unique because we have the option to change the capacity without
.change the unit
:There are number of kinds of indoor units
FC RRI: indoor unit is fully integrated with nokia Ultra Site Bts. It provides a flexbus connection for one .1
.outdoor unit
FXC RRI: indoor unit is fully integrated with nokia Ultra Site Bts. It provides flexbus connection for two .2
.outdoor units and full cross connection, loop protection grooming capability
FIU 19: compact 19'' indoor unit providing connection for up to four outdoor units depending on the .3
.configuration
:Nokia flexihopper microwave radio can be managed locally with
.Nokia hopper manager (with FIU19) .1
.Nokia SiteWizard (with FC RRI and FXC RRI) .2
.It can also be managed remotely from the nokia NMS
.The outdoor and indoor installation need to be esthetic

:Rx signal level

?How to see the Rx input level
.Main window

Picture 14
.To see the Rx signal level follows the next steps
.Go to FXC RRI Measurements Outdoor Unit 1 Enter

.We get this window

Picture 15
.Rx input level see us the signal each press on refresh give us the signal in true time
.Because we dont want always to press on the refresh we set auto refresh to 1 and click on refresh
.Now the signal will refresh automatically every second
-30-

Alignment
The antenna have main gain and side gain is the alignment we get the main gain in both side of the antennas. If
we get the side gain we dont get the right Rx input level. In the alignment jest one antenna aligned and the
.second antenna stand alone. Note never dont aligned the both antennas in the same time
.The fine- alignment of the antenna is performed after the transmit frequency has been set
The outdoor unit at the other end of the hop must be pre alignment to this station and must to send a signal with
the correct frequency. After the both ends of the hop have been fine- aligned once, it may be necessary to repeat
.the alignment to get the best performance
When the antennas have been aligned for the radios at both ends of the radio hop, verify that the Rx input level
.determined by the transmission planning is met

Note: ALCQ must be off during the alignment. When we aligned

-31-

Check List
.When we finish the alignment we need to check with ber tester the quality of the link
.Because we dont have ber tester we check that the fxc lamp is green
:To promise quality link we to the next checks
