5. A lady driving her car at 50 km/h
approaches an intersection jus as the
traffic light turns yellow. She knows
that the yellow light lasts only 2 s
before turning to red, and she is 30m
away from the near side of the
intersection. The intersection is 15m

6. An airplane trip involves three legs,

with two stopovers. The first leg is
due east for 620km; the second is
southeast for 440km; and the third
leg is at 53 south of west, for 550km.
What is the planes total

7. A ball is dropped from a height of
20m and rebounds with a velocity

it hits the ground.
(a) What is the time interval between
the first and second bounce?
(b)Draw a velocity time graph to
represent the motion.
8. A ball is thrown forward horizontally
from the top of a cliff at 10 ms 1.

above the ground is 45m, calculate:
(a) the time taken to reach the ground

(b)the distance from the cliff to the

ball hitting the ground
(c) the magnitude and direction of the
ball just before it hits the ground.

9. Two men are pulling a boat using

ropes as shown in the figure below.
Use the component method to
determine the sum of the two forces
acting on the boat.

(b)
11.
A boy on a small hill aims his
water-balloon slingshot horizontally,
straight at a second boy hanging from
a tree branch a distance d away (as
shown below). At the instant the
water balloon is released, the second
boy lets go and falls from the tree.
Explain why he made the wrong
decision (he hadnt studied Physics).

10.
The diagrams below shows two
forces F1 and F2 acting on a 27 kg
object on a frictionless tabletop. If F1
= 10.2N and F2 = 16N, find the net
force on the object and its
acceleration for each situation (a) and

12.
A projectile is fired at 60 with an
initial velocity of 42 ms 1. After 5.5
seconds it reaches a point P in its
trajectory. Determine:
(a) the height of P above the
horizontal
(b)the velocity of the projectile at P
(c) the maximum height achieved by
the projectile.
13. A projectile is fired from the edge
of a cliff 125m above ground level
with an initial speed of 105 ms 1, at

an angle of 37 to the horizontal, as

shown below.

Determine:
(a) the time taken for the projectile to
hit the point P
(b)the distance X from the base of
the cliff
(c) the velocity and angle of the
velocity just before it hits P.
14.
A car of mass 1 tonne accelerates
at 2 ms 2 up a slope inclined at 5 to
the horizontal. Find the force
produced by the engine if a constant
resistive force of 1500N acts on the
car.
15.
The block shown in the figure
below lies on a smooth plane tilted at
an angle of 22to the horizontal.
(a) Determine the acceleration of the
block as it slides down the plane.
(b)If the block starts from rest 9.1m
up the plane, what will be the
blocks speed when it reaches the
bottom of the plane?
(Ignore friction)

16.
(a) A small smooth object slides
from rest
down a smooth incline
plane at 30 to the horizontal.
Calculate:
