About Betas mittens

I made these mi+ens when I was invited to my friend
Betas birthday party and only had a day to make a nice
present. Of course I didnt manage to nish the mi+ens in
?me but Beta nally got them, although 2 months late!
My grandmother Lilla was the one who taught me to knit
at the age of ve. She is such a source of wisdom when it
comes to kniFng. You could say shes my kniFng hero!

Sjnabk/ Ornaments and Pa+erns found in Iceland is an
amazing book on pa+erns from the 17th, 18th and 19th
century in Iceland. This pa+ern is inspired by one of the
many beau?ful pa+erns in the book. For the mi+ens I
used the wonderful and some?mes underrated
Kambgarn, merino wool produced in Iceland by the stex
spinning mill. This yarn that is perfect for mi+ens, warm
and soV. Heres a ?p from my grandmother: if you want
them extra warm you can felt them just a li+le bit.

About the methods and techniques
The mi+ens are worked in the round from cu to
nger?ps. Use double pointed needles, the magic loop
method or your favorite method to knit small diameters.
The thumb s?tches are knit with scrap yarn while the
mi+en is worked and nished in the front, the scrap yarn
is pulled out to reveal s?tches for kniFng the thumb, and
the thumb is nished last. Pa+ern is worked in cross-
s?tch aVer washing and drying the mi+ens.

Ssk: slip two s?tches knit wise, one at a ?me, knit
together through the back loops.
