Danna Ladd, owner of the
Hairhouse n Nail Saloon, said
she gets a lot of questions about
the name of her business.
Yes, it is saloon, not salon,
Ladd said. Colfax was a mining
town and we are right below T.Js
Roadhouse and near the Colfax
Hotel. Theres a lot of history in
this building and thought saloon
kept with some of the towns
history.
Ladd, who co-owns the
saloon with her daughter,
Mekayla Ladd, said she thinks
they won for best new business
because of the customer service
they provide.
When you come in, its your
time, said Ladd, who has more
than 30 years experience.

Theres no rush and we take

all the time you need. Its important.
Our thought was to pamper
people and make them feel special, Ladd added. We are more
driven by customer service than
money.
Open since March 21, 2014,
Ladd expects to be adding more
services soon, such as facials
and waxing. The mother-daughter team already offers acrylics
to extreme color and everything
in between.
Were still building and growing, Ladd said. Im excited my
daughter is getting her aestheticians license and we are going
to start offering skin care.

Kita Keen, owner of the Railhead Saloon, has been behind

the plank for 31 years and said
business is good.
The Colfax Record caught up
with her on a recent afternoon
and she was busy.

Keen said. We have a pool
table, darts and an Internet
jukebox. People like to come
here to dance and sing and
have a good time socially.

Keen added that her bar is

located near the best food in
town.
Lunas Caf is next door and
they deliver, Keen said.
In addition to pool tournaments, Keen said, the Railhead
Saloon celebrates all holidays
with special parties.
For example, Halloween
festivities included a costume
contest, pumpkin-carving
contest and treats.

Colfax was no surprise to Bob
Shinaver, manager of Buzz
Thru Joes.
Our coffee is really good,
Shinaver said.
When I started working here
a year ago, I didnt drink coffee.
I didnt like it at all. Now I do.
Before I came here, I worked
at a coffee shop in Auburn and
I hated the coffee, Shinaver
added.

Shinavers favorite drink, and

one of the stores staples, is the
Caramel Buzz white chocolate with caramel.
Shinaver said Buzz Thru Joes
is open daily for breakfast and
lunch.
We have very loyal customers and a handful of regulars
who come through every day
and are very patient when its
busy, Shinaver recently said.
