t 3.2 mm
Do not use damaged couplers. Examples for damage are bent rivets,
twisted locking clips and saddle sections, deformations of the collar
nut contact surface due to overloading, or a damaged thread on the
hammerhead bolt or collar nut.
Couplers must be checked and maintained regularly. If necessary the
threads must be cleaned and grease.
WARNING
Note: The use of heavy-duty lubricants or the greasing of the
contact surface between collar nut and locking clip reduce
sliding friction, resulting in higher preloading forces. Higher
preloading forces can cause damage to the coupler and / or to
the tubes to be connected.
WARNING
Incorrectly fitted scaffolding couplers reduce the stability of
the scaffolding structure and can lead to its collapse.
Damaged hammerhead bolts and collar nuts must be replaced by original Layher components. If other components are used, the present
product manual and the declaration of conformity by Layher will no
longer be valid.
The declaration of conformity of the manufacturer applies only for the
original Layher double, swivel and joint couplers and when original
spare parts are used.
} 2. DOUBLE COUPLER
Description
Identification
The Layher double coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection links two scaffolding tubes with an outer diameter of 48.3 mm to
one another in an unchangeable right angle. It consists of a central
saddle section to which two locking clips are fastened undetachably.
Closing is done with an M14 hammerhead bolt with M14 collar nut,
WS 19, WS 22 or WS 23. The double coupler is made by forging
methods using the material S235JR. For protection against corrosion, the couplers are hot-dip galvanized. The Layher double coupler
according to EN 74-1 with screw connection underwent an initial
component test according to EN 74-1. Its production is monitored
both in-house and externally in line with the monitoring stage M as
per Annex B of EN 74-1.
The Layher double coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection is identified by a permanent mark indicating - among other
things - the manufacturer, the manufacturers plant, the year of
manufacture, the coupler class and the declaration of conformity by
the manufacturer.
The identification for the current production reads:

form according to the Layher identification key (see general building
authority approval Z-8.1-16.2, Annex A).
Layher double couplers of earlier production date may also be used in
the coupler class BB for steel and aluminium tubes.

Use
The Layher double coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection can be used equally on steel and aluminium tubes. The
scaffolding tubes to be connected must have an external diameter
of 48.3 mm. As regards the minimum wall thickness and minimum
yield strength, the provisions of EN 12810-1 apply for system-linked
scaffolding tubes, and the provisions of EN 39 for system-independent
steel scaffolding tubes.
The Layher double coupler according to EN 74-1 must be tightened
with a torque of 50 Nm 10 %. 50 Nm corresponds with a lever arm
of 25 cm to a force of 20 kg.

} 3. SWIVEL COUPLER
Identification
Description
The Layher swivel coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection
links two scaffolding tubes with an outer diameter of 48.3 mm to one
another at any angle. It consists of two saddle sections swivellably
connected using a rivet. A locking clip is undetachably fastened to
each saddle section. Closing is done with an M14 hammerhead bolt
with M14 collar nut, WS 19, WS 22 or WS 23. The swivel coupler is
made by forging methods using the material S235JR. For protection
against corrosion, the couplers are hot-dip galvanized. The Layher
swivel coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection underwent
an initial component test according to EN 74-1. Its production is monitored both in-house and externally in line with the monitoring stage M
as per Annex B of EN 74-1.

} 4. JOINT COUPLER
Description
The Layher joint coupler according to EN 74-1 with screw connection
links two scaffolding tubes with an outer diameter of 48.3 mm to one
another coaxially. It consists of a saddle section to which two locking
clips are fastened undetachably one behind the other. Closing is done
with an M14 hammerhead bolt with M14 collar nut, WS 19, WS 22
or WS 23. The joint coupler is made by forging methods using the
material S235JR. For protection against corrosion, the couplers are
