Introduction
Curriculum is defined as a course of study often in a particular field. It is the
instructional program through which the pupils achieve their goals. The word
Curriculum was derived from the Latin word currere which means a race horse. So
etymologically the word curriculum means the course of studies. It is the sum total
of all the experience which the child receives in a school .

Principles of curriculum
It is framed on the basis of some principles related to philosophical
psychological social etc. It is essential for the overall development of the learners
the principles are:
Child centeredness:
It is the Centre of learner in the teaching learning process.
Principle of activity:
It includes the learning activities for the learners to experience in the
teaching learning process.
Principle of creativity:
It includes the activities that can develop the creative powers of the learners.
Principle of leisure:
It includes extra curricular activities like sports celebrations etc.
Principle of character building
It should improve the character of the learner.
Principle of motivation:
It should motive the students.
Principle of conservation:
It should improve the cultural value of the learners in the society.
Principle of complete development:

It facilitates the complete development of the learner.

Functions of curriculum

Curriculum serves several importance of nations. The are :


Directing the student learning
Providing guidance for teachers
Development of social skills
Producing responsible citicens
Improving knowledge
Providing moral values
Help to form positive attitudes
Giving instructional leadership

Conclusion:
Curriculum is an ongoing process. It takes place every time and everywhere. It is
the sum total of all the experience which the child receives in a school. It considers
two things, the nature of the child and requirements of the community. Curriculum
is framed on the basis ofPsychological, social, philosophical etc. It is very

structured and easy to achieve the goals of the learners. Learners will be attracted
more towards educational programs.
