Over the next three weeks we will be thinking, praying, and preaching about the extraordinary
generosity of God and the call to respond in thanksgiving with our own giving. We are calling the
worship series Extravagant Love, Extravagant Generosity. During this time you will have the
opportunity to hear from many folks about their own journeys in and with generosity.

I love this time of year! I do my devotions each morning looking over the woods behind the
parsonage. As the trees turn each one becomes its own unique celebration of color. The sunrises
have been breathtaking and the sunsets even more dazzling. It is hard for me not to think about
the amazing creative work of God and the millions of ways that we receive grace day by day.
For me, the journey begins with the simple awareness of all that we often take for granted. The air
that we breathe, the sun that sustains all life on earth, the food we eat, the talents that we share
all are gifts from God. We can neither create nor reproduce any one of them, yet our survival
depends on the presence of each. Even at this very basic level, we are constant recipients of Gods
grace and care. How does one say thank you for that kind of grace? How do we emulate Gods lifegiving grace in our own lives? What does the Bible have to say about the relationship between our
giving and our relationship with God and with each other?
We will be exploring these and other questions in worship and on Wednesday nights throughout
November. We will be asking you to be in prayer about what God might be calling you to give in the
upcoming year and what a next step in your own journey might look like.
Gales and my journey in generosity and giving, while by no means exemplary, has been a huge
source of joy and growth over the years. I hope each of you will join us during this important time
as we too seek Gods guidance for our faithful next step together.
Peace,

Growing Deeply
My Notes:
Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who
are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him. And he testified
with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from
this corrupt generation. So those who welcomed his message were baptized,
and that day about three thousand persons were added. They devoted
themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs
were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all
things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute
the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time
together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad
and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people.
And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

As the weather turns colder a nice warm lift from the parking garage to the
church is very much appreciated by many of our members. In order to continue
to provide that service we are in need of volunteers willing to drive the golf cart.
Volunteering for this team involves a commitment of just two hours on one Sunday
each month. Schedules will not interfere with the drivers ability to attend worship. Being part of this team is a great opportunity to serve others as we all seek
to support the ministry and mission of Missouri UMC. Contact Jo at 443-3111 or
jo@moumc.org to find out more about this opportunity to serve or to sign up for a
spot on the team.
