Is it fair to judge people on the basis of their grades

Before the inception of civilization in the human race every being was treated as equal and

there was no disparity between two people. But as humans got civilized differences rose and

people started judging each other on the basis of physical, lingual, racial characteristics. In

pre modern society factors such as ancestry, caste, race and gender were the determinants of

these judgments but in today's modern society things like achievement and enterprise are

.considered the basis for these judgments

Among all these factors the most important one is said to be education. But education itself is

not considered a sufficient indicator of a person's competence; its the grades. A high scorer in

examination automatically becomes a better candidate for a high profile job which, I think

.should not be the case

If we look at all the great men who shaped the world we live in, we will be startled to know

that nearly all were underachievers and most did not even go to school. Einstein, one of the

greatest physicists of all times was expelled from school and was even termed 'Rotterdam's

rotter' by his teachers. But his vision and will led the way for him and his bad examination

results never lessened his hopes. Had he been judged by his grades and barred from

.experimentation, the world would have had a major loss

This is not the only case where examination results are proved unfair as a basis for judgment.

Taking examination involves a number of variable factors that can make a huge impact on

results. Most important is the luck factor, it can happen that a person who just prepared for
algebra gets tested for the same topic in exam and another person who did all topics except

.algebra gets the same test. Exam in this case is unfair for the second person

Then there is the factor of family background. A person born in the family of mathematicians

and doctors is more likely to do well in exams than a person who has uneducated parents and

.little support for education

The increasing dependence on examination results is also playing a huge role in the

promotion of unethical behavior. The pressure of performing well is so great that students do

not even hesitate to cheat in exams. The only matter of concern for them is the grade no

.matter how it is achieved. This, itself is a major cause of concerned should be taken seriously

In this world where everyone is born unique it only seems ridiculous to judge a person's merit

by simply looking at the GPA as a single digit cannot portray all talents that a person

possesses. Every person should be judged on individual basis because the standardization of

the process will always be unfair to the most deserving.
