Heritage Festival Food Booth

The New Carlisle Heritage of Flight
Festival has come and gone. The weather
was not good for the Car Show Friday
and sales were down over last year.
Saturday the weather was damp and cold.
We hope for better weather next year.
Thanks to all the members, wives, sons
and daughters that helped out to support
this project. It was certainly exhausting,
but worth the effort, and most importantly
it was fun. We plan to do it again next
year so keep those work boots handy.

200 YEARS OF ROYAL ARCH MASONRY

Royal Arch Masonry was firmly established in America several years before the Revolution.
Both it and its companion, the Knight Templar Degree were known in Boston by 1769,
where each seems to have been a part of a Christian form of Freemasonry practiced by the
Ancient lodges. It was an important part of the Masonry in Philadelphia and was known
in the colonies of New York and Virginia. The French and Indian War gave it an impetus,
through the agency of British Army Lodges. This same influence resulted in its wide
dissemination, both in Boston and New York, during the Revolution. When independence
became an established fact, upon the withdrawal of British forces, there were enough wellestablished Royal Arch organizations to insure its permanence and its wide propagation.
With the organization of American Grand Lodges, the spread of Royal Arch Masonry in the
United States was concurrent with the formation of the Federal Government and the opening
of the Western territories and more particularly with the settlement of the State of Ohio.
Freemasonry came to Ohio with the first pioneers who settled the Northwest Territory.
Many were members of Masonic bodies in their homes along the Atlantic seaboard and the
desire to incorporate Freemasonry in the new society they were establishing in the west
found early expression. Within a few years of the initial settlement of the Ohio Country in
1788, lodges were formed in Marietta, Cincinnati, Worthington and Chillicothe, each of
which were early seats of the Royal Arch in Ohio. We will continue our story of Royal
Arch Masonry in Ohio in next months bulletin by discussing the organization of the Grand
Chapter.
Other Chapter news: New Carlisle Chapter will join with Sixth District Chapters this
coming Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m. in the O.M.H. auditorium to celebrate Royal Arch
Reaffirmation Sunday to reaffirm our faith in God. All masons are cordially invited to
attend.
