Interns will be provided with room and board at the home of our Chairman of the Board, Bob Werb, in
Nyack, NY along with a, $75 per week, stipend.
The Barth‐Werb’s live in a large, historic, 4 story, 4 family house. There is little air conditioning and a lot
of fans. The house is work in progress. The family has a welcoming but informal style. Snacks are
available and family meals (often on paper plates) are provided with attempts to meet interns’
preferences. Interns are welcomed to use the kitchen. The Barth‐Werb family has five children
between the ages of 16 and 24. Depending on how many are home for the summer the two interns may
be sharing a room.
Interns will each have a cubical in Mr. Werb’s office located in the same building as his home. If they
don’t bring their own computer, one will be made available. They will be expected to work 40 hours per
week. They will report directly to Mr. Werb and interact remotely with a number of other key players in
the Foundation.
Nyack is a small town with a diverse population, including Hispanics, African Americans and Haitians,
ranging from poor people in the projects to extremely wealthy on estates. Located on the Hudson River
near the Tappan Zee Bridge, Nyack is about a 40 minutes drive or 1:15 by bus to midtown Manhattan.
The Barth‐Werb family sails and an intern with sailing experience will be welcome to borrow a boat.
Biking and hiking are popular Hudson Valley activities. The town has a charming downtown with
restaurants, shops and an active bar scene on the weekends.
Both interns will be provided with transportation to and from, as well as room and board at, our annual
conference to be held at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, Friday, July 23,
through Sunday, July 25. Attending the conference is a requirement and will be a major opportunity to
gather additional video material. (See below.)
Because we are seeking very specific skills we are listing three possible jobs for only two positions.
Video Producer
One intern will start by posting our large library of video material from recent years’ conferences online.
Once the material has been reviewed and posted he or she will produce a series of short, compelling,
YouTube style videos from existing and new material. New material can be obtained by Skype with any
number of leaders in the NewSpace community or by using a camera for people here in the New York
area, as well as those attending the conference. Unless the intern brings something better, the available
camera is a Panasonic SDR‐H18.
We seek a volunteer with previous video production experience. Please provide links to videos you
have produced.
Website & Social Media Manager
One intern will assist our website team in the following:
• Building out the functionality of our WordPress website.
• Blogging & tweeting fresh content regarding space news
• Re‐posting static pages from our achieved site (at http://archive.spacefrontier.org/).
• Increasing our utilization of social media tools (e.g., Facebook, Twitter)
• Helping to manage our group blog & train our members to join our group blog
• Assist the video producing intern with tech support on posting video and other things on an as
needed basis.
We seek a volunteer with previous website and social media experience, preferable with word press.
Grants Coordinator
One intern will initiate, organize and coordinate a volunteer run grants seeking operation. We are
seeking a person with grants training and experience that we lack to get the ball rolling. By the end of
the summer we want to have a list of prospective targets, a generic grant proposal for the grants we are
seeking and a process in place to move forward. The intern will be training our volunteers by guiding
them through contact and proposal to some of the prospects. This job provides real world management
experience for someone considering a career in grants and will hopefully result in a line on your resume
bragging that you “initiated the Space Frontier Foundation’s grants program which has since resulted in
$XXX,XXX in grants.”
To Apply
Please send your resume and relevant supporting materials to our Executive Director, William Watson at
watson.william@gmail.com by Friday, April 30, 2010. Early application is encouraged. We may well
choose before the application deadline.
