NURSING
CONSIDERATION
ORAL:
* Administer 1 hr before or
after 2 hr after meal with a
full glass of water.
*If patient is unable to
swallow capsules or when
lower dosage are needed, a
liquid suspension may be
compounded. Follow the
manufacturers instructions
for preparation.

Dermatologic:
Flushing, pruritus, rash

*Shake extemporaneously
prepared suspension well.

EENT
Conjunctivitis; visual
disturbance.

INJECTION:
*For IV infusion. Not for IM or
subcutaneous injection.

GI:
Anorexia, cramps,
diarrhea, epigastric
distress, gas, heartburn,
nausea, sore mouth and
tongue, vomiting.

*Follow manufacturers
instruction. If reconstituted
product is added to 500ml
diluent, administer over 3 hr.
If added to 100ml diluent,
administer over 30min.

Hematologic:
Decreased Hgb,
eosinophilia, hemolytic
anemia, leukopenia

*Incompabilities:
Physically incompatible with
diltiazem.

CONSIDERATION

History:
Allergy to drug.
Can cause peripheral
Neuropathy which is

sensation on extremities. It
can be prevented through use
of supplemental vitamin B6
(pyridoxine).
Physical: skin color, lesions T;
orientation,
Reflexes,
peripheral
sensitivity, bilaterally grip
strength
opthalmologic
examination;
Give in an empty stomach 1
hr before or 2 hr after meals.
May be given with food if GI
upset occurs.
Give in a single daily dose.
Reverse parenteral dose for
patient unable to take oral
medications.
Decrease
food
containing
tyramine or histamine in
patient diet.

difficulty swallowing.
