intendedtogrowovertimewithcontributionsfromcustomersandimplementationpartners.

Therearemanyfactorsthatneedtobethoughtthroughwhensettingupbenefits,soneedlesstosay
therearemanysetupsthatneedtobedefinedtosetupyourbenefitsprograms.Thisdocumentis
intendedtobeusedbycustomerstohelpflushoutyourbenefitprogramrequirementsand
configurations.AlongwiththisWorddocumentyoushouldalsohaveaspreadsheetoftheconfiguration
setupswiththecompletedetailsofthesetup.
TheOpensourceSetupsallhaveaneffectivedateof01/01/1950.Ifitisdecidedthatyouwillcreate
yourownsetupswesuggestthatyouusethesameeffectivedate,sothatyoucanconvertemployee
recordsandmakeanychangestothehistoryofarecord.
Clientsshouldnotusethedeliveredtemplatesasis.Witheveryimplementationyouwillneedtochange
theLegalEntityforthesetupsaswellaschangetheratesoftheplanstoreflectthecorrectrates,
enrollmentperiods,etcClientsshouldreviewalldetailsandmakeneededchangesbeforebeginning
thesetups.

BenefitsObjectHierarchies
Thesequenceforcreatingbenefitshierarchyobjectsdiffersfromtheresultinghierarchicalorder.You
cancreatenewobjectsasneededatanytime.However,becausesomebenefitshierarchyobjectsare
referencedduringthedefinitionofotherbenefitshierarchyobjects,itismoreefficienttocreatethese
objectsintheordershowninthefigure.Thisfigureillustratesthemostefficientsequenceforcreating
benefitshierarchyobjects:plantypes,options(ifused),plans,thenprograms.

1.Beginbycreatingoneormoreplantypes.PlanTypesorganizeplansintogroupsthatprovide
similarcategoriesofbenefits,suchashealth,savings,education,andsoon.AtthePlanTypelevel
ofthehierarchy,youcanefficientlyadministercorporatebenefitspoliciesthatapplyacrossall
planswithinthatbenefitcategoryortype.
2.Whencreatinganoption,youcanoptionallyassociateoneormoreexistingplantypes.This
restrictstheavailabilityoftheoptiontoplansthatbelongtothenamedplantypes.
3.Whenusingtheplanconfigurationprocesstodefinebenefitplandetails,youmustassociateone
existingplantype,andcanoptionallytieexistingoptionstotheplan.

Theenrollmentcertificationtypesanddeterminationrulesaredelivered.Youcannotextendthe
availablelistofcertificationtypesordeterminationsrules,butyoucanrenametheexistinglookup

Noeligibilityprofilesaredelivered,howeverOpensourcehasdeliveredsuggestedeligibilityprofilesas
youwillseelaterinthedocument.Youcancreateasmanyeligibilityprofilesasyouneed.Eligibility

Ratesandcoveragessetupfollowsplanandoptionsetupbecauseratesandcoveragesarespecificto
namedplansandoptions.Ratesandcoveragescanbeassociatedatmanylevelsinyourconfiguration,
suchasplan,optioninplan,andoptioninplaninprogram.Opensourcealsodeliverssuggestedrates
andcoveragespleasenoteifyoudecidetousetheOpensourceconfigurationyouwillneedtochange
ratesamountsaseachcustomerhasdifferentrates.
Variablerateandcoverageprofilescanbeassociatedwithratesandcoverages,respectively,sothat
thecalculatedresultsvarywithfactorsthatchangeovertime,suchasagegrouporworklocation.
Ifyoudefinecoverageacrossplantypes,thatsetupoccursaftersettinguptheaffectedprograms.
Youmustselectoneexistingprogramandoneormoreexistingplantypesduringsetupofcoverage

SetupandMaintenanceofDerivedFactors

Derivedfactorsdefinehowtocalculatecertaineligibilitycriteriathatchangeovertime,suchasa
person'sageorlengthofservice.Youaddderivedfactorstoeligibilityprofilesandthenassociatethe
profileswithobjectsthatrestricteligibility.

DerivedFactorTypes
Youcancreatesixdifferenttypesofderivedfactors:age,compensation,lengthofservice,hours
worked,fulltimeequivalent,andacombinationofageandlengthofservice.

DeterminationRulesandOtherSettings
Foreachfactorthatyoucreate,youspecifyoneormorerulesabouthoweligibilityisdetermined.For
example,thedeterminationruleforanagederivedfactorspecifiesthedayonwhichtoevaluatethe
person'scalculatedageforeligibility.Ifthedeterminationruleissettothefirstoftheyear,thenthe
person'sageasofthefirstoftheyearisusedtodetermineeligibility.

Forthefulltimeequivalentfactor,youspecifytheminimumandmaximumfulltimeequivalent
percentageandwhethertousetheprimaryassignmentorthesumofallassignmentswhenevaluating
eligibility.Forexample,ifthepercentagerangeis90to100percentforthesumofallassignments,then

apersonwhoworks50percentfulltimeontwodifferentassignmentsisconsideredeligible.Other
settingsdefinetheunitofmeasurefortimeormonetaryamounts,roundingrules,andminimumsand

UseaFormulatoDetermineEligibility
Acompanywantstoofferaspotincentivebonustohourlyemployeeswhoworked100percentoftheir
scheduledshifthoursinathreemonthperiod.Todetermineeligibilityforthebonus,createaformula
thatcalculatesscheduledhourslessworkedhoursforeachweekinthepreviousthreemonths.Ifthe
resultofsuccessivecalculationsislessthanorequaltozero,thentheformulareturnsaresultofYes.
Thefirststepistocreatetheformula.Oncetheformulahasbeendefined,createauserdefined
criteriontoruntheformula.

Youcanadddifferenttypesofeligibilitycriteriatoaneligibilityprofile.Formanycommoncriteria,such
asgenderoremploymentstatus,youcanselectfromalistofpredefinedcriteriavalues.However,you
mustcreateuserdefinedcriteriaandderivedfactorsbeforeyoucanaddthemtoaneligibilityprofile.

EligibilityProfile
Whenyouaddaneligibilitycriteriontoaprofile,youdefinehowtouseittodetermineeligibility.For
example,whenyouaddgenderasacriterion,youmustspecifyagendervalue(maleorfemale)and
whethertoincludeorexcludepersonswhomatchthatvalue.

AssociatingtheProfilewithObjects
Youcanassociateaneligibilityprofilewithdifferentkindsofobjects:
InBenefits,associateaneligibilityprofilewithavariablerateorvariablecoverageprofileto
establishthecriteriarequiredtoqualifyforthatrateorcoverage.
InHR,associateaneligibilityprofilewithachecklisttasktocontrolwhetherthattaskappearsinan
allocatedchecklist.
InCompensation,associateaneligibilityprofilewithatotalcompensationstatementtoapply
additionaleligibilitycriteriaafterstatementgenerationpopulationparameters.

Beforeyoucreateaneligibilityprofile,considerthefollowing:
Ifaneligibilityprofileusesderivedfactors,userdefinedformulas,oruserdefinedcriteriato
establisheligibility,youmustcreatetheseitemsbeforeyoucreatetheeligibilityprofile.
Ifyouaredefiningeligibilitycriteriaforachecklisttask,variablerateprofile,orvariablecoverage
profile,youmustincludeallcriteriainasingleeligibilityprofile,becausetheseobjectscanbe
associatedwithonlyoneeligibilityprofile.Youcan,however,associatemultipleeligibilityprofiles
withbenefitsofferingsandcompensationobjects.
Eligibilityprofilesarereusable,sousenamesthatidentifythecriteriabeingdefinedratherthan
theobjectwithwhichtheprofileisassociated.Forexample,use"Age2025+NonSmoker"rather
than"SupplementalLifeMinRate."

SpecifyingProfileTypesandUsage
Whenyoucreateaneligibilityprofile,youspecifywhethertheprofileappliestoparticipantsor
dependents.Useparticipantprofilestodefinecriteriaforemployeesorexemployeeswhoareeligible
forthebenefitsofferedbyyourbusiness.Usedependentprofilesforparticipants'spouses,family
members,orotherindividualswhoqualifyasdependents.Dependentprofilescanbeassociatedonly
withplansandplantypes.

DefiningEligibilityCriteria
Criteriadefinedinaneligibilityprofilearedividedintocategories:
Personal:Includesgender,persontype,postalcoderanges,andotherpersonspecificcriteria
Employment:Includesassignmentstatus,hourlyorsalaried,job,grade,andotheremployment
specificcriteria
Derivedfactors:Includesage,compensation,lengthofservice,hoursworked,fulltimeequivalent,
andacombinationofageandlengthofservice
Other:Includesmiscellaneousanduserdefinedcriteria
Relatedcoverage:Includescriteriabasedonwhetherapersoniscoveredby,eligiblefor,or
enrolledinotherbenefitsofferings.

ExcludingfromEligibility
Foreacheligibilitycriterionthatyouaddtoaprofile,youcanindicatewhetherpersonswhomeetthe
criterionareconsideredeligibleorareexcludedfromeligibility.Forexample,anagefactorcaninclude
personsbetween20and25yearsoldorexcludepersonsover65.Ifyouexcludecertainagebands,then
allagebandsnotexplicitlyexcludedareautomaticallyincluded.Similarly,ifyouincludecertainage
bands,thenallagebandsnotexplicitlyincludedareautomaticallyexcluded.

AssigningSequenceNumbers
Youmustassignasequencenumbertoeachcriterion.Thesequencedeterminestheorderinwhichthe
criterionisevaluatedrelativetoothercriteriaofthesametype.Note,whenassigningsequence
numberspleaseallowspacefornewcriteriatobeaddedinthefuture.

AddingMultipleCriteria
Ifyoudefinemultiplevaluesforthesamecriteriatype,suchastwopostalcoderanges,apersonneeds
tosatisfyatleastoneofthecriteriatobeconsideredeligible.Forexample,apersonwhoresidesin
eitherpostalrangeiseligible.Ifyouincludemultiplecriteriaofdifferenttypes,suchasgenderandage,a
personmustmeetatleastonecriteriondefinedforeachcriteriatype.

ViewingtheCriteriaHierarchy
SelecttheViewHierarchytabtoseealistofallcriteriathatyouhavesavedforthisprofile.Thelistis
arrangedbycriteriatype.

SupportforMultipleEligibilityProfiles
Ifyouaredefiningeligibilitycriteriaforachecklisttask,variablerateprofile,orvariablecoverageprofile,
youmustincludeallcriteriainasingleeligibilityprofile,becausetheseobjectscanbeassociatedwith
onlyoneeligibilityprofile.Youcan,however,associatemultipleeligibilityprofileswithbenefitsofferings
andcompensationobjects.

EfficiencyandPerformance
Foroptimumperformanceandefficiency,youshouldusuallyattachprofilesatthehighestpossiblelevel
inthebenefitsobjecthierarchyandavoidduplicatingcriteriaatlowerlevels.Plantypesinprogram,
plansinprogram,plans,andoptionsinplansinherittheeligibilitycriteriaassociatedwiththeprogram.
Forexample,tobeeligibleforabenefitsplantype,apersonmustsatisfyeligibilityprofilesdefinedat
theprogramlevelandattheplantypeinprogramlevel.However,itissometimesfastertocreatemore
thanoneprofileandattachtheprofilesatvariouslevelsinthehierarchy.Forexample,youmight
excludeemployeesfromeligibilityattheprogramlevelwhodonothaveanactiveassignment.Atthe
levelofplantypeinprogram,youmightexcludeemployeeswhodonothaveafulltimeassignment.
Finally,attheplanlevel,youmightexcludeemployeeswhoseprimaryaddressisnotwithinaservice
areayoudefine.

Lifeeventsaffectbenefitsprocessingforaworker.Aspectsoflifeeventsthatarerelatedtobenefits

Type
Thefourtypesoflifeeventsareexplicit,temporal,scheduled,andunrestricted.Youconfigure
explicitlifeeventsduringimplementation.Theycanincludeeitherpersonalorworkrelated
changes,suchasanaddresschangeorassignmenttransfer.Temporallifeeventsoccurwiththe
passageoftime,suchasthesixthmonthofemployment,andarepredefined.Fortemporalevents,
youusederivedfactorsassociatedwithplandesigneligibilityfactors.Scheduledlifeeventsare
assigned.Openenrollmentperiodsareanexampleofascheduledlifeevent.Unrestrictedlife
eventsareforbenefitenrollmentsthatarenottimedependent,suchassavingsplanenrollments.
Participantscanmakeenrollmentchangesatanytime.

Status
Twolifeeventstatusesareimportantforbenefitsprocessing,potentialandactive.Potentiallife
eventsaredetectedlifeevents,buttheydonotgenerateenrollmentactions.Potentiallifeevents
areprocessedbytheparticipationevaluationprocess.Ifpotentiallifeeventsmeetplandesign
requirements,theybecomeactivelifeevents,whichcangenerateenrollmentopportunities.In
additiontolifeeventsstatusesthataffectbenefitsprocessing,youcanupdateindividuallifeevent
statusesforaworker.Lifeeventsstatusesthatyoucansetincludeclosed,backedout,andvoided.
Closingalifeeventpreventsfurtherenrollmentprocessingofthelifeevent.Backingoutalifeevent
rescindsanyupdatestoworkerrecordsthataregeneratedbytheparticipationevaluationprocess.
Youcanbackoutonlylifeeventsinthestartedstatusorprocessedstatus.Voidingalifeevent
rescindsanyupdatesandpreventsfurtherprocessing.

ExplicitLifeEvents:Explained
Youconfigureexplicitlifeeventsduringimplementation.Theycanincludeeitherpersonalorwork
relatedchanges,suchasanaddresschangeorassignmenttransfer.Defineanexplicitlifeeventby
specifyingitsprocessingcharacteristicsandthedatabasechangesthatgenerateit.Usecriteriasimilarto
thosethatdefineeligibilityprofilesandvariablerateprofiles.Aspectsofexplicitlifeeventsinclude:
Type,DefinitionandDetection.

Type
Thetwotypesofexplicitlifeeventsarepersonchangeandrelatedpersonchange.Aperson
