COUNCILMAN CATE TO TAP THE FIRST KEG OF D6 SESSION SAISON ON

VETERANS DAY, WITH PROCEEDS BENEFITTING VETERAN-HELP ORGANIZATION
San Diego, CA: On Wednesday, November 11th (Veterans Day) at 10:00am, District 6 San Diego City
Councilmember Chris Cate will tap the first keg of AleSmith District 6 Session Saison. Brewed by AleSmith
Brewing Co.the first brewery established within the district back in 1995the refreshing, 4% alcohol-byvolume beer is the first-ever farmhouse-style ale produced by the Miramar-based company.
Following an inaugural toast, the beer will be available at AleSmiths tasting room, and distributed to bars and
restaurants throughout San Diegos sixth council district. Ten percent of proceeds will be donated to
PsychArmor, a non-profit organization providing free education and support to Americans who work with,
live with, or care for veterans.
San Diego is home to more than 100 breweries and has gained an international reputation as the nations craft
beer tourism capital behind numerous innovative and award-winning ales and lagers. In 2014, San Diego
brewers and brewpubs generated $600 million worth of economic impact in the region, and the craft brewing
industry employs more than 6,200 individuals county-wide.
November 5th through November 15th marks the sixth annual San Diego Beer Week (SDBW). This week
celebrates the strength and diversity of San Diegos brewers, via multiple events happening across the county.
With nearly two thirds of the Citys breweries located in my district, there is a significant market for craft
beer tourism. As a City leader, I feel I can provide a pathway to bring breweries together and highlight the
great beer they make. District 6 is San Diegos beer belt with so many breweries that are operating close to
each other and an increase of visitors to the area will benefit everyone. My vision is to make these clusters a
craft beer destination for beer lovers across the country, stated Councilman Chris Cate.
As the very first brewery to settle within District 6 back in 1995, we are incredibly honored to brew this
commemorative beer, says AleSmith owner and CEO Peter Zien. We now share the area with 20
compatriot breweries in a District that is truly beer-friendly. We thank our respected City Council and
District 6 representatives for all they are doing to help increase recognition and appreciation for the great art of
brewing in San Diego, which were proud to say is a true hallmark of the communities within our District.
This effort to celebrate local craft beer while helping our nations veterans reflects the best of San Diegos
