Introduction
The Philippines proudly boasts to be the only Christian nation in Asia. There is a
vigorous 4 percent Muslim minority, concentrated on the southern islands of Mindanao, Sulu,
and Palawan. Scattered in isolated mountainous regions, the remaining 2 percent follow nonWestern, indigenous beliefs and practices. The Chinese minority, although statistically
insignificant, has been culturally influential in coloring Filipino Catholicism with many of the
beliefs and practices of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. The pre-Hispanic belief system of
Filipinos consisted of a pantheon of gods, spirits, creatures, and men that guarded the streams,
fields, trees, mountains, forests, and houses. Bathala, who created earth and man, was superior to
these other gods and spirits. Regular sacrifices and prayers were offered to placate these deities
and spirits some of which were benevolent, some malevolent. Wood and metal images
represented ancestral spirits, and no distinction was made between the spirits and their physical
symbol. Reward or punishment after death was dependent upon behavior in this life.
Hypothesis
-
In this experiment we will determine various religions in the Philippines. And how
many percent each religion in the campus. Through this experiment we can gather
ideas on how do the student value their respective religion. And do they can be easily
persuaded by other religion by sharing the gospel of God.
Research method
- Our group conducted an experiment in the campus. We ask 20 students about their
respective religions. And how they practice such beliefs and we also ask them of their ideas
about other religion such as Catholic, Muslim, Born Again and etc. Most of the students that we
ask are from different level there are freshmen, senior and junior. Most of the student that we ask
regarding their religion practices include there faith has several ways of expressing itself. It
depends on the local history of the church, the national tradition, a whole set of cultural elements
which make the expression of faith unique in some places. We will see how different traditions
regard the meaning and the expression of faith. Then we will be able to look at the way the
Philippines have found a specific way of expression of faith. Lets consider four main and
already known ways of living the faith so far: the simple faith, the faith of intelligence, the faith
of the heart and the faith of the modern Christian. This faith is not threatened or destroyed by any
external event or personal difficulties like death or accident in the family. These people are
immune from the consequences of change of civilization or ways of living. Their faith is part of
their life forever, and they will not lose it, by any event. It is so deeply rooted in them that
nothing can take it away. More than 86 percent of the population is Roman Catholic, 6 percent
belong to various nationalized Christian cultures, and another 2 percent belong to well over 100
Protestant denominations. In addition to the Christian majority.
Conclusion
Based on our experiment many student values their respective religions. All of them have the
similar beliefs who worship the God the father. Their faith is not easily persuaded by just sharing
the different gospels of various religions. It takes time for them to figure it out if that religion
will suits them. They are quite individualistic since they are very independent from external
events. The simple faith does not communicate itself outside. There is no common practice, no
community exchanges behind this strong faith. Each person lives her faith the way she wants and
how she can.
