CANTO 1 Overview Notes

Note
About the Bhaktivedanta Vidyapitha Overview notes on Srimad Bhagavatam
This document is an overview notes of all chapters of Canto 1 of Srimad Bhagavatam, translated and
commented by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. We have tried to present the flow
of a chapter within one or two pages, with the paraphrased translations. This may be used as a quick guide to
the chapter while studying or while giving a presentation.
However, this notes is not meant to substitute a detailed study of Srimad Bhagavatam translated by Srila
Prabhupada, but is meant only to assist the reader in appreciating the whole chapter at a glance. This is an
attempt made to serve the Vaisnava community, as a part of our study of Srimad Bhagavatham at
Bhaktivedanta Vidhyapitha.
We have tried to present the Bhagavatam without any deviation. But in case of any ambiguity please refer to
Srila Prabhupadas Srimad Bhagavatham. We hope that this attempt would be pleasing to all the Vaisnavas.
Features & Nomenclature of the Notes
For a better understanding of the flow of the contents of Srimad Bhagavatam, we have included the
important connections (between verses & chapters) and incites from the commentaries of both Srila
Prabhupada and Srila Viswanatha Chakravarthi Thakura [from Sarartha Darshini].
The most important verses in a chapter are also included.
The section and sub-section titles provide an easy understanding of the flow of the chapter.
Tables and charts are provided for the easy reference for appropriate sections.
The Verse number of each verse is given in the format SB cc.ch.vr [cc Canto number. ; ch Chapter
number. ; vr Verse number]. It helps in locating the verse.

SB 1.18.43: Lord is represented by monarchial
