ENGLISH CARNIVAL PROPOSAL 2015


1.0 Introduction
English Carnival for level 1 and level 2 pupils is intended to expand their knowledge and
enhance usage of English among them. Through English Carnivals activities, pupils can be
stimulated through language skills and they have opportunity to use English in an
interesting, authentic and creative manner.
2.0 Objectives
2.1 Produce individuals who are disciplined, knowledgeable, honorable and competitive as
contained in the National Education Philosophy.
2.2 Improve the academic performance of students in learning English based on the target
set.
2.3 Improve vocabulary and writing skills among students.
2.4 To enhance pupils confidence in using English.
2.5 To instill pupils interest in speaking, reading and writing in English.
2.6 To choose candidates and train them for 2016 inter school English Competition.

GROUP SINGING COMPETITION 2015
RULES AND GUIDELINES
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Singing is an effective teaching and learning activity to help improve the standard
of English among pupils.
1.2 The singing competition will be carried out at school levels.
2.0 Objectives
2.1 To encourage and increase the use of English Language among the younger pupils.
2.2 To build confidence and sense of ease with English Language among the younger
pupils.
2.3 To develop skills of integrating scripting of music and movement with language.
2.4 To provide a platform for fun and happy learning.
3.0 Rules and Regulations
3.1 The competition is a compulsory for all pupils from Year 1 to 6 to participate.
Every pupil will represent their own class. This competition will divide pupils into
two groups which is lower year group (Year 1 to 3) and upper year group (Year 4
to 6). Every class will compete under their group.
3.2 For singing competition, contestants are to observer the following rules :
3.2.1 Songs presented can be authentic, adapted or originally written.
3.2.2 Songs presented must not touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion,
stereotyping and politics.
3.2.3 Songs must be thematically educational.
3.2.4 Contestants are allowed to use the microphone provided.
3.2.5 Props, backdrops and sound effects are not allowed. Any over-usage of these
will be disqualified by the judges.
3.2.6 Only music background is allowed to be played during the presentation.. Use of
recorded music is allowed. (Tape used should not have voices or words.)
3.2.7. Use of musical instruments is allowed. However, musicians must sing and

perform together with the team members during presentation.


3.2.8 Time allocated to present the song is 3 to 5 minutes. Marks will be deducted
thereafter. 2 minutes is allocated for stage arrangements, with the teachers
as stage technicians.
3.3 Infringement
3.3.1 A maximum of 5 marks will be deducted if a group :
3.3.1.1 Touches on sensitive issues such as race, religion, politics and etc. 1
mark.
3.3.1.2 Presents a song below the stipulated time -1 mark for every minute.
3.3.1.3 Presents a song above the stipulated time -1 mark for every minute.
3.3.1.4 Uses props, backdrops and electronically-audio sound effect 1 mark.
3.3.1.5 Overdramatizing 1 mark.
3.3.2 Merit marks will be given based on the creativity of the presentation such as
costume, movement and etc.
4.0 Adjudication
4.1 A panel of 3 judges will be appointed for all the rounds at all levels.
4.2 Points will be allocated according to the score sheet and aggregated.
4.3 Judges will collectively determine the placing by a clear majority vote.
4.4 The decision of the judges is final.
4.5 Individual team marks will not be disclosed.
5.0 Prizes
5.1 Prizes of achievement will be awarded to the winners during prize giving ceremony.

ENGLISH WRITING COMPETITION 2015
RULES AND GUIDELINES

1. This competition is open to all the pupils in Level 2 of SJK(C) Chung Hua Pusa.
2. All pupils from Year 4, 5 and 6 are compulsory to enter this competition.
3. Each participant is required to complete the entire question given.
4. The allocated time for the competition is only 1 hour and 15 minutes.
5. The competition will be held on 14 October 2015.
6. Marks will be given based on :

RULES AND GUIDELINES

2. All pupils from Year 1 until 6 are compulsory to enter this competition.
3. Each participant is required to write down 10 spelling words given.
4. The allocated time for the competition is 10 minutes which means each word is given 1 minute
to write out completely.
5. The competition will be held out from 12.10.2015 until 16.10.2015 during English lesson by
English teacher Year 1 - 6 respectively.
6. Marks will be given based on :
6.1 Handwriting

50% (5 marks for each word)

6.2 Spelling

50% (5 marks for each word)
