Classroom Interaction Procedure

Teacher starts the class with introductory conversations.

Teacher asks certain questions to check the previous
knowledge of the students. What are the bases of a
cylinder? How many lateral faces does it have?
[There are two bases which are congruent and they have a

Actual Response

single lateral face which is curved.] (Recalls)

Activity1
Teacher divides the students into 5 groups and gives each
group a paper cutting containing the figure of cylinder and
asks to find the shape of the base face and find the area of
the base with radius r.

[Observes the model.]

Each group does the activity and teacher collects the result
of each group.
What is the shape of the base of cylinder?
[The shape of the base of cylinder is circle.](Recalls.)
How can we find The area of a circle?
[The area of a circle of radius r can be calculated by the
formula A=r2.](Recalls.)

Activity 2
Teacher asks each group what is the general formula for
volume of a prism.
Each group does the activity and teacher collects the
result.
[Volume of a prism = Base area * height](Recalls)
Activity-3
Teacher asks each group to compare cylinder with regular
prisms and arrive at formula for finding the volume.
Each group does the activity with the help of the teacher
and teacher collects the results of each group.
Finally arrive at the formula.
Volume of a cylinder = Base area of circle*
Height of cylinder
Base area of a circle = r2*h
Volume of a cylinder = r2h[Identifies]
Teacher concludes that the volume of cylinder equals the
product of the radius square and the height and the number
. [Identifies]
Teacher shows a chart containing the formula of volume of
a cylinder

Review and Application
If the radius of the cylinder is 5c.m and height is
10c.m. Then find the volume of the cylinder?
What we have to find?
[volume of the cylinder][identifies]
What are the given things?
[ The radius of cylinder is 5c.m and height is
10c.m] [identifies]

Prepared by Akhila.s

i.e. r = 5c.m h = 10c.m

What is the formula for finding volume of a cylinder?
[Volume of the cylinder r is the radius of base and a h be
the height of the cylinder. Then volume V= r2h]
(identifies)
Volume of cylinder = r2h
= *52*10
= *25*10
= 250 centimeter square.
(Identifies and estimates)

Follow up Activity
1. If the radius of the cylinder is 4c.m and height is 18c.m. Then find the volume of
the cylinder?
2. If the radius of the cylinder is 7c.m and height is 12c.m. Then find the volume of
the cylinder?
