5. Explain the terms (i) precision

(ii) accuracy.

Unit 2:
1. Briefly explain
(i) Types of errors
(ii) Sources of errors in surveying
2. A measurement was made along a sloping ground at 2045. If the permissible error in
horizontal distance measurement is to be 1 in 15,000, find the accuracy with which the slope
angle is to be measured.
3. Explain the construction, use and working of optical line ranger.
4. List various signals used and their meaning while ranging.
Unit 3:

2. Distinguish between cumulative and compensating errors. Give a list of such errors.
3. A 30 m tape used for measuring a line was found to be 30.01 m at the beginning and 30.03
m at the end the work. The area of a a plan drawn to a scale of 1:1000 was found to be 5146
mm2. Compute the correct area of the field.

Unit 7:
1. The following staff readings were observed successively with a level. The instrument has
been moved after the second, fifth and eighth readings.
0.675, 1.230, 0.750, 2.565, 2.225, 1.935, 1.835, 3.220, 3.115 and 2.875.
The first staff reading was taken with staff held on a benchmark of RL 100.000. Enter the
readings in a level book and calculate the RLs of all the points. Also apply the arithmetic
check. Use height of instrument method.
