Follow all steps
exactly to correctly install.
Failure to follow them
could cause personal injury or property damage.
Reading this manual will also help you to get all the
benefits from your water softener.
Your Kenmore Elite Hybrid Water Softener will
reduce hardness minerals from water. This is measured in grains per gallon (gpg).
It will also remove
some clear water iron _. This is measured in parts
per million (ppm). See the specifications
page for
the maximum limit of hardness removal.
It will also
reduce taste and odor in water, and will reduce barium and radium 226/228
in water (see performance
data sheet for details).
A water softener will not improve other water problems

such as acidity or iron other than clear water iron.
Do not attempt to use this product to make safe

drinking water from non-potable
water sources. Do
not use the system on microbiologically
unsafe water,
or water of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
Check with your local public works department

plumbing and sanitation codes. You must follow
their guides as you install the system. Follow your
local codes if they differ with guides in this manual.
In Massachusetts,
plumbing code 248-CMR 3.00 and
10.00 shall be adhered to. Consult with a licensed
plumber.

Antes de seleccionar un lugar para instalar
ablandador,
examine los siguientes puntos:

1. Col6quelo tan cerca como sea posible del tanque

de presi6n (acjua de cisterna) o del medidor de acjua
(agua municipal), pero siempre despu_s de este.
2. Col6quelo tan cerca como sea posible de un desagLie
tal como uno de piso, una pileta de lavadero, un
sumidero o un tubo vertical (vea la Ficj. 4).
3. Conecte la tuberia principal de agua de la casa
ANTES DEL CALENTADOR DE AGUA (vea la Fig. 3).
La temperatura del agua que ingresa al ablandador
no debe superar los 120 F (49 C). El agua caliente
da_ar6 las piezas internas del ablandador.
Para
reducir el riesgo de reflu]o de agua caliente, la
tuberia entre el ablandador
y el calentador
de acjua debe ser tan larcja como sea posible.

Para que el ablandador

de agua funcione correctamente,
la presi6n del agua entrante en las tuberias de la casa
debe ser, como minimo, de 20 libras por pulgada
cuadrada
(PSI). La m_xima presi6n permisible es de

Despu6s de cumplir

aproximadamente
2 horas en cumplirse.
3. Despu6s de terminar la regeneraci6n,
abra
totalmente
un grifo de agua fria, situado despu6s del
ablandador,
y deje correr 50 galones (189 L) de
agua por el sistema. Eso tardar6 20 minutos como
minimo.
El nuevo ablandador
Sears ya est6 ablandando

para todas las necesidades de su vivienda. Sin
embargo, su CALENTADOR
DE AGUA est6 Ileno de
agua dura. Para disponer de agua totalmente
blanda

NOTA: Si se realiza el procedimiento
con un
ablandador
nuevo, es posible que al principio el
agua salga descolorida
de los grifos. Eso ocurre

la primera vez que circula agua
por el lecho de resina. El agua descolorida
no
es nociva; adem6s, ello no durar6 m6s que
algunos minutos.

AGREGADO
DE SAL AL TANQUE
DE ALMACENAMIENTO
Tiene que conservar sal en el tanque, pero no es
necesario que est6 totalmente
Ileno. Especialmente en
zonas hgmedas, es mejor mantener el tanque de
almacenamiento
a no mds de la mitad y agregar sal
con m6s frecuencia. La sal "se puentea" m6s a menudo
bajo condiciones de humedad.
Use sal en TRO70 o en BOLA para ablandador
de
agua. NO use sal en roca, ya que contiene impurezas
y sedimentos que impedir6n el funcionamiento del
ablandador. Para mantener el ablandador de agua
funcionando de manera 6ptima, hay que limpiar el tanque
de sal una vez cada 2 6 3 afios.

Si escoge cloruro de potasio (KCI) como regenerador, siga

estas sugerencias para obtener afios de servicio sin
mantenimiento.
1. Deposite una sola bolsa de I<CI a la vez en el
ablandador
(el tanque de almacenamiento
de sal debe
contener no m6s de 60 libras [27 kg] de KCI a la vez).
2. Un ablandador
que funciona con I<CI no debe
instalarse en 6reas con fluctuaciones de temperatura
y alta humedad (el KCI se endurecer6 en dichos

3. Revise mensualmente el tanque de salmuera y el
dep6sito de salmuera (un tubo negro dentro del

endurecimiento,

FLUJO DE AGUA A TRAVI_S DEL ABLANDADOR
MEMORIA
Para ver el caudal del ablandador en galones (o litros)

por minuto, apriete el bot6n "WATER USE" (Consumo
de agua). Si se est6 consumiendo agua blanda,
aparecer6 en pantalla el caudal en el d_cimo de gal6n
(o de litro) m6s cercano. Cuando est6n cerrados todos
los grifos y aparatos que consumen agua, la pantalla
indicar6 "0".
Si se interrumpe la electricidad
del ablandador,
la
pantalla de la hora quedar6 en blanco pero el
controlador
electr6nico
conservar6 la hora correcta
durante varias horas. Cuando se restaure la electricidad,
tendr6 que reprogramar
la hora actual del dia solamente
si la pantalla est6 destellando. Nunca ser6 necesario
reprogramar
las funciones HARDNESS (Dureza) y
RECHARGE TIME (Hora de regeneraci6n)
a menos que
se quiera realizar un cambio. Aun cuanda la hora del

de la vivienda. A medida que el agua circula por el

m6s grandes en la canasta integrada y luego se
descargan por enjuague en el desagLie antes de cada
regeneraci6n.
La funci6n de limpieza profunda brinda
protecci6n adicional
a los artefactos que consumen
agua al reducir la probabilidad
de que las particulas
m6s grandes penetren en v61vulas y filtros de diversos
productos. Puede activarse la funci6n de limpieza para

PUENTE
DE SAL
Algunas veces se forma una corteza dura o un "puente"

de sal en el tanque de salmuera. Por Io general es
ocasionado
por la alta humedad o por usar un tipo de
sal equivocado.
Cuando la sal forma un "puente", se
crea un espacio vacJo entre esta y el agua. Entonces, la
sal no se disolver6 en el agua para formar la salmuera.
Sin la salmuera, el lecho de resina no se regenera y
obtendr6 agua dura.
Si el tanque de almacenamiento
est6 Ileno de sal, es
dificil decir si tiene un puente de sal. El puente puede
estar justo debajo de la sal suelta. Tome un mango de
escoba o herramienta
similar y sost6ngalo junto al
ablandador
de agua. Mida la distancia desde el piso
al borde del ablandador
de agua. Luego empuje
cuidadosamente
el mango de escoba directo en la sal.
Si se siente un objeto duro antes de que la marca est6
a nivel con la parte superior, Io m6s probable es que
sea un puente de sal. Empuje suavemente el puente en
varios lugares para romperlo. No use objetos agudos ni
afilados, pues puede perforar el tanque de salmuera.
No trate de romper el puente de sal golpeando

Esta verificaci6n revisa el funcionamiento
adecuado del
motor de la v61vula, Ilenado del tanque de salmuera,
extracci6n
de salmuera, velocidades
del flujo de
regeneraci6n
y otras funciones del controlador. Siempre
realice primero las revisiones iniciales, y ejecute el
diagn6stico
iniciado manualmente.
NOTA: La pantalla debe mostrar una hora fija (sin
destellar). Si aparece un c6digo de error,
oprima primero el bot6n SELECT (Seleccionar)
para ingresar a la pantalla de diagn6stico.
1. Mantenga
oprimido el bot6n REGENERATION
(Regeneraci6n) durante 3 segundos. Comenzar6n a
destellar en la pantalla las palabras "RECHARGE"
(Regenerar), "Serv" (Servicio) y "Fill" (Llenar) a
medida que el ablandador
introduce el ciclo de
Ilenado de regeneraci6n.
2. Cuando la v61vula Ilegue a la posici6n "Fill" (Llenar),
retire la cubierta del dep6sito de salmuera y, con una
linterna, observe el agua de Ilenado entrando al tanque.
3. Si el agua no entra al tanque, verifique si se ha
obstruido una boquilla, el tubo Venturi, el tap6n de
flujo de Ilenado, la tuberia de salmuera o el tubo
vertical de la v61vula de salmuera.
4. Despu6s de observar el Ilenado, presione el bot6n
REGENERATION (Regeneraci6n) para mover el
ablandador
de modo que funcione con la salmuera.
Comenzar6 un flujo lento de agua rumbo al desagLie.
Verifique la extracci6n de salmuera del tanque
iluminando con una linterna el dep6sito de salmuera y
observando una caida notoria en el nivel de liquido.
5. Si el ablandador
no extrae salmuera:
Boquilla sucia y/o tubo Venturi sucio
