INTRODUCTION
The wide individual differences among human beings. By the term
we mean the differences among individuals that distinguish or
separate them from one another. The personality of each
individual is distinct and unique. The fact of individual differences
tends variety and colour to school life and permits flowering of
diverse Human Talents in society. Individual differences in there

intelligence, aptitude, interest, attitude, and personality


traits.Heridity and Environment are the two determinants of
individual differences.
In term of different dimensions of human growth and
development exceptional children are mainly categorize as

GIFTED CHILDREN
A Gifted Child is one who shows consistently remarkable
performance in any worthwhile line of endeavour.Such individual

exhibits superiority in general intelligence or possesses special


abilities of a higher order.
A person who shows outstanding performance in other spheres of
activity regardless of his average IQ or low scholastic
achievement may also be termed as gifted.
Children capable of high performance include in different areas

CHRACTERISTIC OF A GIFTED CHILD


A gifted child is an essentially an exceptional child and he
possesses the following characteristics.
In comparison to children of his own age group, he is
superior in same ability or group of abilities.
He learns rapidly and easily and retains it without much drill.
He knows about many things of which most students are
unaware.
He has a rich vocabulary marked by originality, which he
uses easily and accurately.
He is extremely inquisitive and quick in understanding.
A Gifted child is much original in his thinking, uses good but
unusual methods.
He is alert, keenly observant and responds quickly.
He is Span of Attention is Broader and he could perform
difficult mental task.
IDENTIFICATION OF GIFTED CHILDREN

1) Group test of intelligence: - It can be used for the preliminary


screening of gifted children.
2) A Standardized Achievement Test: - This test may be used to
Identify Gifted Children.
3) School marks and Cumulative Records of Pupils
achievements may give some indication of giftedness.
4) Aptitude Tests, Interest inventory, Anecdotal records,
Opinions and reports of friends and teachers often help in
identifying the gifted children.
5) The teacher observation in the classroom and outside the
classroom can from some opinion of the childs ability.
EDUCATION OF GIFTED CHILDREN
Gifted children are gifted for life. They start out
gifted and end up Gifted. As a result, they have similar academic
needs throughout their school years. The following are the
different administrative provisions for the education of gifted
children.
1) Separate School.
2) Ability Grouping.
3) Acceleration or Double Promotion.
4) Triple Trace Plan.
5) Summer Schools.

CREATIVE CHILD
The Creative child is one who has got an ability to
Create, Discover or Produce a new idea or objects including the
rearrangement or reshaping of what is already known to him. A
creative child is curious, resourceful, flexible, open-minded and

sensitive to problems and shows originally of ideas and


expression.
According to skinner, a creative thinker is one who
explores new ideas and make new observation, new predictions
and new inferences.
CHARACTERISTICS OF CREATIVE CHILDREN
The following are the important characteristic features
of a creative child.
1) He demonstrates originality in ideas and action.
2) He develops institution in his problems.
3) Possesses a high degree of Keenness, Attentiveness,
Alertness and Power of Concentration.
4) Possesses a high degree of sensitivity towards problems.
IDENTIFICATION OF CREATIVE CHILDREN
The teacher can identify a creative child by making
use a test of Creativity or by making use of non-testing devices
like observation, interview, rating scale, checklist etc.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES FOR FOSTERING CREATIVITY
1) Elaboration.
2) Brain Storming.
3) Synaptic.

SLOW LEARNERS
A backward child is one who compares with other pupils of same
age shows marked educational deficiency. Backwardness in
general is applied to cases where their educational attainment

falls below the level of their natural abilities. According to BRUT a


slow learner is a child who is unable to cope with the work
normally expected of his age group.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SLOW LEARNERS


Back ward child shows the following features.
1. He is a slow leaner and feels difficulty in keeping Pace with
the normal school work.
2. His educational attainment falls below his natural abilities.
3. He falls far behind other children of his age in matter of
study.
4. He is necessarily a failure in the academic field and shows
educational impoverishment.
5. His span of attention and concentration are short and has
short reaction time.
6. His ability to evaluateancy is materials for relevancy is
limited and has got limited power of self-direction.
KIND OF BACKWARDNESS
There are two types of backwardness and specific
Backwardness is found to be weak in all subjects of the
school curriculam.And the child suffering from specific
Backwardness lag behind in one or two specific subjects only.
CAUSES OF BACKWARDNESS
Usually the following factors contribute to scholastic
Backwardness.

Social Factors
