Grade/Year Level

Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

Grade 8 SJGP

1. The lesson is about Multiplying and Dividing Fractions.

2. The Resource Teacher used chalkboard as his visual material for his
lesson.
3. Since it was a Math subject, the Resource Teacher explained the topic by
demonstrating it to his students first so that his students can understand it
easily.
4. The students response shows understanding of the topic because
whenever their teacher asked them if they have some queries regarding
the topic the students will asked him. And that shows that they are eager
to learn.
5. Almost all of the students show eagerness in learning as they are
participative during the lesson proper. They kept on asking their Resource
Teacher about their queries like the things they dont understand and that
clearly show how much the students are willing to learn.

ANALYSIS

1.

What do you think prompted the teacher to choose

the materials/learning resources that she/he used?
One factor to consider why teacher decides to use particular
material/learning resources is the appropriateness of the material to
the lesson and subject matter. Since the Resource Teacher is teaching
math subject, it is appropriate that he use chalkboard as his learning
resource/material because in that way he can explain it clearly to his
students. And also with chalkboard he can do a demonstration on how
to solve a particular problem by demonstrating it in front of his
students.

2.

What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience?

How can this be managed?
The difficulty that the teacher had while the class was going on
is primarily on making the students focus to the lesson. Because there
were students who are not really paying attention to him. He was able
to manage it by giving examples that his students are able to relate to.

3.

Over-all, were the learning resources/materials

used effectively? Why? Why not?

Yes, the learning resource/material was used effectively because

the students were able to comprehend/understand their topic. They
were able to master their topic.

REFLECTIONS

Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you

do similarly and what would you do differently if you will
teach the same lesson to the same group of students?
Why?

If I were in the shoes of the teacher, I would probably add more activities
that my students will enjoy and also I will use other materials such as pictures,
video clips, to catch their attention. Also, like what the Resource Teacher of the
class I have observed I will also give examples that the students will be able to
relate to so that they will not be bored and they will have their full attention to me
and to my topic.

The learning resource/material used by the Resource Teacher of the class I

have observed is also suitable for my topic because even though using chalkboard
is too mainstream yet it is effective as a learning material in the teaching learning
process. Yes, the learning material is very much appropriate for my target year
level. Because using chalkboard is appropriate not just in a single year or grade
level it is appropriate in all year/grade level. It is up to the teacher on how he/she
will utilize the said material. Aside from using chalkboard other materials that can
be useful for my topic are pictures, video clips, flash cards and many more. And as
a teacher we must be creative to make our own learning material, I can make
accordion, big book, story, charts, hand-outs, power point presentation and pop-up.

ANALYSIS

Give at least three benefits of doing a survey of available

materials before making your own materials? Explain
each.

If I do a survey of available materials before making my own, I can save

time instead of making the appropriate material my own and figuring out how
can I proceed with my lesson, I can just focus on how can I utilize the available
materials for the lesson. Second, I can save money because I dont have to buy the
things I need because it is already available. And lastly, I can also find out what
other resources are available which can be used in the future lessons. This way I
only need to have a yearly inventory and plan the materials I will use throughout
the year.

REFLECTIONS
1. Which of the materials did you like making the
most? Why?
The materials whom I like making the most are the big book, pop-up,
and chart because I can show my creative and artsy side of me. And these
materials helped me in my lesson proper especially in making the
students focus their attention to the topic.

2. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in

making the materials? How did you overcome
them?
One difficulty that most teachers encountered when it comes to
preparing their own learning material is the availability of the things
needed in making it. So as a teacher, we should be resourceful enough to
think of alternatives if are desired learning material is not available.

3. What tips can you give teachers regarding

preparation of teaching materials?
The best tip I can give to teachers regarding preparation of teaching
material is to make use of the resources available at home, school, and in
the community. They can also search the internet for creative ways to
utilize such commonly found items in their lessons.
