Abstract

While Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is increasing widely.

These wide increase will not be achieved until few challenges are addressed. Few
challenges are privacy, security, costs from end users point of view and last power
supply from engineering perspective. We focus my attention on research in: RFID
privacy and security, electronics-based RFID devices, power management circuits
and techniques. We conclude our attention by drawing the implications in Business
Radar at the airport.
Our idea is to implement RFID tags in baggage for commercial business
development for the baggage vendors. These RFID tags creates uniqueness for
every baggage and adds the additional benefits like theft protection and
differentiates from the other baggage
Introduction

A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is both promising and

controversial.
RFID system mainly consists of 3 major parts
1. RFID tag (each tag is unique used to store the information basically in form of
alphabetical words)
2. RFID reader (used to receive signals from the tag for example bar code readers
and has interface to communicate with data processing systems)
3. The back-end data base systems used to receive information from reader and
process the information.
It easily identifies tracing tags in objects. The tags or transponders contains
electronically stores data and transfer information. In practical RFID readers are
used unlike barcode the main function of an RFID system is to enable tagged items
or persons to automatically state their identity to other systems wirelessly. RFID
tags, a technology once limited to tracking cattle, are tracking consumer products
worldwide.

The main usage of RFID tags is to identify the products and people. The major
advantage of RFID over conventional systems such as bar code scanners is that
physical contact of receiver and sender and line of sight is also not required for an
object whose RFID tag to be identified, unlike bar code scanners require to identify
using line of sight.
Challenges for RFID

The challenges includes privacy, security, costs, power supply are the main
parts.
Privacy concerns in the form of clandestine tracking and inventory of
tagged items and security concerns related to authentication of tags
and readers. RFID tags are attached with cash, cloth etc.; without
consent
has
raised
privacy
concerns.
Use
on-chip
cryptography methods
for
un
traceability,
tag
and
reader authentication, and over-the-air privacy specifies a digital
signature data structure for RFID and barcodes providing data, source
and read method authenticity.
The high costs of the tags and readers. Current projections are to have
tags that cost about 5 US cents each in order to facilitate wider
adoption of RFID for 3 tagging individual items. But according
economic the cost is justified.
The power supply for RFID tags is both passive and active.
Related work: During the first report of our project we referred to some research

papers published regarding RFID communications and challenges.

In first project report we discussed about importance of RFID , challenges, main
parts of RFID and some applications of RFID present in use
In this span of after first project report we gathered some information about RFID
usage in tracking of objects in airports.
We are trying to work on baggage tracking in airports using RFID tags and to
overcome challenges of RFID communications.

Conclusion

There are many applications of RFID like in agriculture (Tracking

the animals), Navigation Systems for the Visually Impaired, military operations in
defense and many more. Coming to the challenges of RFID Cost, hardware and
integration, security in carrying information etc are the main aspects to be
considered.
