Text Book:

Engineering Economy by /Leland Blank, Prentice-Hall.

Course Objectives:
1. Introduce the economical and costing systems.
2. Learn the significance and implication of the time value of money.
3. Learn the needed tools to utilize cash flow diagram concepts.
4. Learn analysis skills to assess the costs and benefits of the engineering investments.
5. Learn basic concepts of inflation and its impact on engineering economic decision making.
6. Understand the economical selection of alternatives.
7. Apply engineering economy skills to real world situations.
Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all classes. Students missing a total of two classes will be given a
first warning. Student missing a total of four classes will be receiving a final warning. Missing more
than six classes without a valid reason will result in a grade F.
Late Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all classes on time. No late arrivals are accepted.
Medical Excuses
Signed and approved medical excuse or reports can be accepted within one week of your absence.
No medical reports will be accepted after ONE WEEK of being absent. Only two medical excuses
can be accepted during the course. Students with exceptional health conditions should contact the
instructor at the beginning of the semester.
Lecture Notes
The lecture notes can be downloaded from the Online Course System (OCS). The instructor will not
provide hard copies to students. Students missing a class can obtain notes from other students not
the instructor or the T.A. If you are having difficulties working with the OCS system contact: Mr.

Homework:
Homework should be submitted at the beginning of the class of the day it is due. Students should
attempt all homework problems. The grades of delayed homework are subject to the following
policy:
1. Within the same day the homework is due but after the class
-10 points
2. 24 hours delay
-20 points
3. 48 hours delay
-30 points
4. Homework assignments delayed beyond two days will not be accepted
Some Homework problems will include special submission instruction, i.e. submitted online. Failure
to adhere to these instructions may result in grade deduction.
Quizzes
Quizzes can pop in. No makeup quizzes will be provided.

Make-up policy:
Students missing any exam for a valid reason accompanied with proper paper work will be given a
makeup exam. Students missing an exam without a valid reason will be given a grade of zero. No
makeup quizzes will be provided. Makeup exams are typically harder than the original one. The
student should receive a written approval from the instructor for the makeup exam. Do not assume
youll be given a makeup exam without a written approval.

Academic Integrity
Assuming goodwill by all students, all course work, unless specified as group projects, should be
completed by individual effort. Unethical conduct will result in a grade of zero and will be dealt
with according to the university policy.

Class Rules:
1. Using your cell phones during class is not allowed. You cannot have your cell phone on your
desk or lap, it has to be kept in your bag/purse/pocket on silent mode.
2. You cannot use your cell phone as a calculator or clock during exams.
3. No side talks. Students insisting on side talks will be asked to leave the classroom.
4. If you need to be absent you need to send an email before class. If you need to leave early
during the class, you should notify the instructor before class.
Failure to adhere to above class rules, will result in class attendance deduction

The instructor reserves the right to make changes to this syllabus as appropriate. Students are expected to
follow syllabus guidelines, pay attention to class instructions, and be responsible to any changes that may
occur during the course.
