The teacher asks about the Ss' opinions about different


types of school, like coed or single sex.

The Ss are to fill in the gaps in the given sentences


with words connected with exams and certificates.
Then the teacher makes sure that the Ss understand all
the words by asking some of them to describe the
difference between diploma and certificate, and what is
a degree. If necessary, the teacher resorts to Polish
translations.

The Ss are to fill in the gaps with the vocabulary


connected loosely with school life. The teacher makes
sure that the Ss know the difference between hand in
and hand out, by asking. If not, he tries to explicate the
meaning of the phrasal verbs by using gestures and
description in L2.

PROCEDURE(S)
(a brief description of an activity)

The Ss are to read two short texts describing some


students' experience with exams. Their task is to fill in
the gaps using the words given. The teacher explains
more difficult phrases.
PRODUCTION

The Ss are to write a shortish description of their own


exam experience in their notebooks. The teacher
should emphasise that the description should contain
the name of the subject. the description of preparations
before the exam and then some extraordinary event
connected with the exam. The Ss are supposed to do
this on the sheets pf paper.

The teacher takes the signed sheets of paper and asks the Ss
to tell their partner about the exam experience they
described in writing. Then the teacher asks some of the Ss
to report what their partner's exam experience was.

The Ss fill in the gaps in the advertisement for


extracurricular activities
The Ss are to write their own advertisement for an
extracurricular activity on the basis of the exercise
done during the lesson
The lesson was well-structured, so that when it came to
the final activity with creating a short story, the Ss had
a bank of school life related vocabulary to choose
from, though I suppose the teacher should have
broaden the instructions of that writing task so as to
avoid any ambiguities concerning the form (perhaps he
should have reminded that their short stories should
contain an introduction, main bod and conclusion) I
especially liked the activity in which the Ss had to
report their own stories to their partners, and then in
turn they had to report the story of their partner to the
teacher. In this way the teacher introduced some real
life communicative element into the task of writing.
