ScheduleofThematicStudyUnitsforadmissiontotheM.ArchdegreeProgrammes

In order to be admitted into the M.Arch programme, a student has to successfully


completeB.Sc.(Hons)BuiltEnvironmentStudies,withaminimumnumbercreditsinthe
studyunit themes, as indicated below. In accordance with the M.Arch ByeLaws,
successful completion of these studyunits excludes compensated passes. Studyunits
which have been taken successfully during exchange semesters, at other Universities,
canbeofferedaspartofthisscheme,aslongastoconformtotheindicatedthemes,
andareofcomparablelevel.

Students will normally have followed the mandatory studyunits of the first three
semestersoftheBSc.(BuiltEnvironmentStudies),asshowninthefourthcolumnofthe
Schedule. This means that, over the last three semesters of the same BSc. Built
EnvironmentStudiesdegreeprogramme,studentsarerequiredtochoosetheindicated
thematicstudyunitsfromtheelectivesoffered.

TheScheduleisalsotobeusedasaguidelinewhenchoosingsubjectstofollowduring
ExchangeProgrammes.Theattentionishoweverdrawntothefactthat24ECTSoutof
the180canbetakeninanysubject,provideditisbroadlyrelatedinsomewaytothe
studyunitthemesindicatedintheSchedule.Itisemphasizedthatthestudyunitroad
mapsindicatedbelowaretobeconsideredasminima,andthatstudentsoughttoselect
optional studyunits judiciously, to ensure they obtain as rounded a preparation as is
appropriate.

Notes:

1. CodeReferencereferstothecodingusedforstudyunitsofferedbytheFacultyfortheBuiltEnvironment.
IfstudentsfollowstudyunitsofferedbyotherFaculties,orotherUniversities,thestudyunitcodingwill
obviously vary. The important point is that the content of the studyunit for which credits are offered
should relate to the indicated theme. Equivalence to the Faculty studyunits must obviously be
demonstrated.

2. Thesubdivisionofthestudyunitthemesfollowstherequirementsofmutualrecognitionofprofessional
qualifications,asdefinedintherelevantEuropeanlegislation,andnamelythe11pointsinArticle46ofEU
Directive 2005/36/EC. In view of the fact that, particularly in some other institutions, the boundaries
betweensubjectsarenotasdistinctastheSchedulesuggests,thosestudyunitthemesthatmayoverlap,
orbeconsideredasequivalent,arehighlightedbyasuffix,thenumbershowingtherelativelinking.
