for parents
At home encourage your child to listen to his/her CD and follow the story in their book!

Cat 2 (Track 3): Listen and point to the different toys. Link them to their shadows on Cat 3.
Cat 4 Its me! Draw yourself or stick on a picture of yourself. Write your name.
(Track 6) Count up to 5. Listen again, this time the numbers are not in sequence! Join the dots.
Cat 3 Draw your hand.
Cat 4 (Track 7)
Follow the race between lcureuil (the squirrel) and le hrisson (the hedgehog) to reach their homes.
At home, the best way to learn your numbers: listen to Track 5 and sing along!
Then play the board game at Cat 4, throw a dice and count in French.

he or she can understand.
Cat 3 Colour each leaf in the correct colour (rouge = red; jaune = yellow; marron = brown).

Listen and find which way Minou is going (two ways!) Circle the picture as the word is spoken.

At home, encourage your child to talk about what he/she is learning.
For example, ask what the song on Track 15 is all about.

Cat 1 Mini story (Track 18): Bravo, little leaf! - Story in French.
1. Voici lhistoire dune petite feuille.
2. Pendant tout lt les grandes feuilles se moquent delle car elle est la plus petite:
Regarde comme elle est petite! Comme elle est fragile!
3. La petite feuille est triste. Son ami, le soleil lui dit:Tu es petite mais tu es forte et courageuse!
4. Tout coup, cest lautomne et le vent commence souffler. Accrochez-vous bien! Je vais souffler et vous arracher!
5. Et le vent souffle, souffle trs fort. Les grandes feuilles ne peuvent plus tenir et senvolent.
6. Mais la petite feuille est forte et courageuse. Elle saccroche et tient bon. Bravo, petite feuille!
Here is the story of a little leaf. During the summer the large leaves are laughing at her for she is the smallest: Look how
small she is! Look how fragile she is! The little leaf is sad. Her friend, the sun, says to her: You are small but you are strong
and brave! Suddenly Autumn arrives and the wind starts to blow. Hold on tight! I am going to blow you off the tree! says

At home, your child can practise asking for more food in French:

Encourage your child to say the words for each item at Cat 2. Say if it is little or big too!
(e.g. un petit chapeau, un grand chapeau).

At the end of this module, your child should be fairly well equipped to perform some of the following
in French:
Introduce him/herself.
Ask for a sandwich, some crisps, cake, ice cream and lemonade. Say please and thank you.
Say that it is good and ask for some more!
Name different areas of the house and different animals.
Dress warmly and say what he/she is wearing. Then go out on a snowy day and build a snowman.
Describe the snowman in French.
A lot of fun for a 5/6 year old!

Cat 2 (Track 37) Listen, count and join the dots to complete the drawings.
Cat 3 (Track 38) Listen and copy the correct number in the appropriate box.
Look for pictures of a snail, a tortoise, a frog and a butterfly. Stick them into a large
scrapbook or onto a special area (your wall collection) which can easily be seen when
your child is at home. Practise the French words for the animals whenever you can!

Play the story at home, Track 39. Occasionally, pause the CD before Non, jai peur
(No, I am frightened) and let your child say it instead. Talk about the bird family and what
happens in the story. Enjoy the song on Track 40 together.

The best way to help your child here will be to listen to the story in French and point
to the appropriate caption in the book. Add a picture of a bee, a fly and a ladybird to your
wall collection and practise the words when you can.

This is a listening activity. All words end with the sound o except one.
Cat 3 (Track 49) Listen for the word and circle it to choose the correct way to the beach.
At home, your child could make up a new route (at Cat 3) to get to the beach.
Say the French words as you go along!
At the end of this module, your child should be fairly well equipped to perform some of the following
in French:
Making friends with someone on the beach.
Asking someone to come and play.
Asking for or recognising things on the beach: bucket, rake, spade.
Playing at picking up shells or jumping and falling (!) in the water (saying it in French).
Describing what they are wearing and should be wearing in the sun.
Asking for a chocolate ice cream.
Quite an achievement for a 5/6 year old!
