My application for your university stems from my desire to study at one of the best universities in the world and

from my internationalist perspective as a world traveller. It also ensues from my deep passion for art, my
appreciation of architecture, and my yearning to be amongst those who create the changing skylines that form
our cities.
Art has always been my true passion, and every form of art has captivated me since I was a young child. I sought
pleasure, for example, in my surroundings during my encounters with various forms of art-whether it was a
building, a person, a performance, a cloth, an art piece or a photograph that capturing a memory.
I have lived in a country with diverse races, such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, and some other minorities, which
have allowed me to reflect upon extrinsic lifestyles and fully immerse myself in other languages, dialects and
cultures. Living with multiple race makes me understand more about each others lifestyle, culture, attitude
toward life and things that they adhere to in life. As I approach from one place to another, I capture the images of
these cultures and designs through sketches and photographs which I collect. Time and again, these mementos
remind me the rich and unique essence that our ancestors inherited from the past and blend in in our society
presently. I wish I could explore the diversity outside my land and discover more about the relationship between
architecture, people, place and culture.
My first clue in choosing interested field after high school is to have both art and science element in my future
career. I applied and obtained a place in University of Malaya for Bachelor of Science in Architecture in year
2011. Honestly speaking, studying architecture is way tougher than I could imagine. Sleepless nights, stressful
moments when lacking ideas; depressed when my design is being questioned; defeated numerous times but still
struggle hard for next studio critic; physically and mentally exhausted during final presentation week but still I
manage to proceed till the end. I might question myself sometimes but I will never regret because Im clear that
Im on my way to achieve my dream and I know I take it seriously. Apart from academy, more importantly, I prove
that my passion in architecture and built myself with a strong mentality, initiative to make thing better and soft
skills like leadership and communication.
After graduating as Part I architecture student in June, I worked as a full time site manager for my fathers first
construction project, 2 double storey and 2 three storey shop lots under conversion to a car showroom and a
budget hotel. The substructure and superstructure of the building are done when I first arrived. I assisted in
designing interior spaces, decision making and dealing with local authorities, architect, engineers and all the subcontractors. As an assistant to the contractor, I assisted in solving site problems, purchasing construction
materials and responsible for machinery maintenance. Within these 4 months working on site, I learned to
construct a wall, plastering, electrical, air-conditioning fitting, cold water supply, sanitary piping, tile fitting,
painting, plaster ceiling , glass panel installation, MATV system, fire fighting active and passive system and road
and drainage system. I am glad that I got the opportunity to work in the physical world in such position that need
courage, responsibility, persistence and observance. Through my work experience as a site manager, I've come
to realize that there will be no successful project that emerges from a singular idea or person. Rather, it requires
extensive communication with a team of engineers, contractors, architect, and the craftsmen who work on a
building to achieve the greatest possible effect. Learning from the collective expertise of my team has not only
illustrated how each project involves more than simply designing a building, but it has also demonstrated how
creating and managing a construction project is logical, organized, and defined.
I believe architecture is not only a skill but also, more importantly, a combination of creativity and imagination. An
excellent architecture designer needs not only solid architectural skills and knowledge, but also needs
nourishment from fine arts, materials science, engineering and culture. For that purpose, I read lots of materials
ranging from architectural, interior design, fashion and travelling. I believe my hobby helps me read other
designers mind and think from different points of view. I enjoy drawing and sketching to refine my perceptive

awareness of still-life subjects.

Im seeking for a university or design school that could provide both sustainable - built environment design and
cutting-edge skills learning to help advance built environment design. I believe that we as future architect should
be equipped with sustainable design mind and ability to choose materials and technologies to build building that
is efficient yet saving materials. Furthermore, another intense desire of mine is to comprehensively learn the
relationship between architecture and culture. Hence this will be an advantage for me as an international student
to travel around and broaden my horizons about the history of architectural, theory and technology of other land
in creating innovative architecture that relevant to time and place, people and culture. I wish that I can work with
more people within cross-disciplined project teams to develop my skill when come to architectural practice in
future.

I am disciplined in my approach. Before starting my master study, I plan to work with another developer firm to
enhance my construction knowledge from the previous work experience. I will work part time in a small rendering

firm in pursuit to enhance my drafting skills using industry-standard software like v ray and improve my current
software skill such as autocad, photohop and skecthup. I hope I could express my design more effortlessly
through the help of these tools and treat them as a tool to communicate.
I am clear that I want to pursue a course in the area of architecture, because this opportunity combines my love
for art and design with a career is once in a lifetime. It will enable me to combine the strongest aspects of my
personality; a fascination with functional art and design, particularly arrangements of light and space; enthusiasm
for solving practical problems; and working with other people. It is my desire to travel around the world and
experience other cultures and broaden my horizons. With this in mind, possessing a set of transferable skills and
knowledge will be invaluable for the future.
