Training to Enhance Capacities for Sustainability

TRAINING PROGRAMME IN
MATERIALITY
ASSESSMENT

INTRODUCTION

OBJECTIVE

COURSE COVERAGE

According to Global Reporting Initiative,

Sustainability impacts create both opportunities
and risks for an organization. The ability of an
organization to recognize opportunities and
risks, and act effectively in relation to them, will
determine whether the organization creates
preserves or erodes value. Hence identifying
material issues is an important element of
managing sustainability risks and harnessing
opportunities. Accordingly GRI G4 reporting
guidance mandates materiality for a reporting
organization. Materiality analysis include
identifying issues that have a direct or indirect
impact on an organizations ability to create,
preserve or erode economic, environmental and
social value for itself, its stakeholders and
society at large.

The training programme aims at:

MATERIALITY ASSESSMENT

Conducting materiality assessment is complex

and organizations follow varied methods.
However, common is the engagement and
discussions with businesses internal and
external stakeholders. While conducting
materiality assessment, often organizations tend
to identify most issues as material, inconvenient
issues not so material and stark contrast
between material issues identified by different
stakeholder groups. Hence following objective
methodology is essential for identifying right
issues as material and this in turn achieves the
objectives of sustainability reporting and
addresses sustainability risks and opportunities.
