. Explain The Function Of The Bled Steam NRV And The Consequences If It Fails To Open.
The bled steam NRV is there to prevent reverse flow from the HP heaters back to the IP turbine. If the unit trips and the NRV does not
close the wet/cold steam in the HP heaters will flow back to trhe IP turbine quenching the machine which in turn will lead
to distortion. No major hassels if it fails to open. More steam will be directed to the LP turbine. The heaters will probably trip?
I do not think it will have an effect on the reheat pressure as well. You would not be able to run up the steamer because it uses IP bled to run.
Explain The Difference Between A Impulse Turbine And A Reaction Turbine
The difference is found in the blade profiles of the turbines.
Reaction profile
The reaction profile is designed to convert the kinetic energy of the steam that is entering the moving(rotor) blade into force that acts tangentialy on
the blade
causing it to move
Impulse profile
The impuls profile is designed to convert the kinetic energy of the steam developed in the fixed(diaphragm) blade row into force and therefore
rotational
kinetic energy in the moving blades
What Determines Absolute Expansion On A Turbine ?
Absolute expansion is the measurement of the rotor or casings thermal growth with respect to a fixed point i.e. the foundation
Measured by LVDT's i.e. Pedestal movement on ped 1 and 2
The coefficient of expansion of the various components i.e. rotor ,inner casing, outercasing determines Absolute expansion.

11. Explain Differential Expansion, Positive And Negative

Differential Expansion on a turbine is the relative measurement of the rotor's axial thermal growth with respect to the thermal growth of the
casing

Positive diff expansion: Normally means the rotor is expanding faster than the casing. i.e. rotor is long
Negative diff expansion: Normally means the rotor is expanding slower( or being cooled) than the casing i.e rotor is short.

what is the relation between (integration between)the seal oil, H2 and stator water systems?
the flow of the systems?, the diff pressures?, the system pressures?
How do they work
together?
There is actually four systems at work and they are linked.
The hydrogen is necessary for cooling of the generator rotor.
The stator water is necessary for cooling of the stator core
The seal oil is necessary for sealing of the Hydrogen gas inside the Generator Stator.
Cooling water(through the H2 coolers,Stator water coolers and Seal oil coolers) is required to cool the relevant system substances.
All of them work together to provide cooling to the Generator stator and rotor.
