Format boot device and reinstall firmware

Formatting boot device and reinstalling firmware is done from the console port of the unit, and using a
terminal program such as Hyper-Terminal running on your PC. The console port has to be connected to the
serial port of your PC, and serial port of your PC has to be configured as follows:

Before you begin the actual work of reformatting boot device and reinstalling firmware, Please
ensure that:

You have unit's firmware available


Install TFTP server in your PC and move the firmware file to the root directory
Connect your (PC) TFTP server ethernet port to unit's internal port or port1 (depending on the
model of your unit) using a cross over cable. Start your TFTP server (if not already started). Set
your PC IP to static address e.g 192.168.1.168 subnet: 255.255.255.0. This IP address can be of
your choice, and you can actually use your current PC IP address
Connect the console port of the unit to your PC's serial port.
Save your units current configuration file in your PC.

Formatting boot device


Power cycle your unit and interrupt the boot process by pressing any key when you see "press any key..to
enter configuration". Pressing "any" key will then take you to a menu, from where you can reformat your boot
device and reinstall firmware.
From the menu, select F to start formatting boot device.
After the format is completed error free, you can then proceed with loading firmware.
Installing Firmware
From the menu, select G to start firmware download to your unit, and the the following information:

Input (your) PC IP address, e.g 192.168.1.168 (from above)


Input local IP address. This IP address has to be in same subnet as your PC IP, e.g 192.168.1.169.
This local IP will be temporarily assigned to the unit's internal interface to establish TFTP
connection with the TFTP server.
After the firmware has been downloaded, Save it as Default firmware by pressing D.

After the firmware has been reloaded, your unit will restart. After the unit is up, and you have connectivity to
the web interface, reinstall the configuration file.
