Medea
Is Medea insane?
Medea is NOT insane, she exhibits many actions a sociopath does, like no regard for anyones
life besides hers. Although she does show she will greatly miss that her children will not be able
to tend to her in her old age, or attend their weddings, she is being selfish in it because she feels
great sorrow because her children will no longer benefit her anymore. And she then goes on to
say that she must do what she must do because then the whole city will look down on her and
laugh at her, yet again, only showing regard for herself.
Are her actions just or unjust?
Medeas actions are not just, although she had every right to be mad in the world, she responded
to a bad situation poorly. Which then a bad situation even worse. She masks her hatred and pride
as passion and love for Jason that she is fighting for her love. Killing your husband, his mistress,
your children, and the mistress father, is not a just thing to do for having a cheating husband.
Making him live through hell for a week or two, maybe a month, is a lot more just than killing
everybody for fear of being humiliated.
Is Jason partly responsible for Medea's actions?
Yes, because he is not only a hypocrite, but he, too, is so involved in who he is as a man to care
about his wife and his sworn oath to the gods. He also never gives a straight reason as to why he
cheated on her, and he gives petty excuses to cover up a petty crime. He believes that throwing
money on a problem will make it better.
What deadly sins do Medea and Jason exhibit?
Both Medea and Jason exhibit the sin of pride. They are both so invested in their own wants, that
they forget they had sworn an oath to the gods, and to each other. They do not care about hurting
anyone else, and when they do, they stop because they regain their composure of their selfish
character. Medea exhibits the sin of wrath, se immediately wants to kill Jason and everyone
around her because of her short temper, she is so consumed by her anger she is willing to do
anything she can in order to get what she wants.
Describe the complex relationship between Medea and Jason.
Medea and Jasons relationship sprouted from untrue love back when she was cast under a love
potion in order to help him obtain the golden fleece, so from the start, Jasons selfish ways forced

her into his will. She is a powerful woman, and Jason does not acknowledge it, in fact, the only
person who acknowledges this is Creon. So, Jason takes advantage of her and breaks her heart,
which is not as dangerous as damaged her reputation, her pride. Medea exercises her power and
goes for, what she believes to be, the revenge Jason called upon himself, which extends to her
own children, his mistress, and the mistress father.
