RESULTS: Excellent
Project Description:
Airport runways are subject to aggressive abrasion resulting principally from airliner
landings. The impact force and abrasion encountered is obvious visually and
intellectually when the life expectancy of tires utilized by the airlines is reviewed.
In 2001 testing and field trials were performed using AL product formulations to
stripe runways in major airports within the United States with excellent results.
Special equipment modifications were made to provide a simple consistent
application thickness while ensuring straight even stripe lines. Since that time many
airports have specified this coating system for their runway striping applications.
AL safety yellow color is the product commonly specified due to its high abrasion
resistance, color stability in ultraviolet exposure and chemical resistance to jet fuels.

ANTI-CORROSION APPLICATIONS
USE: Anti-Corrosion
OWNER: Multiple
CONTACT: Multiple
RESULTS: Excellent
Project Description:
The corrosive environments common to off shore drilling platforms are some of the
toughest applications a coating can be subjected to. High exposures to salt spray
combined with major temperature swings, constant ultra-violet exposures and the
presence of hydrocarbons are typical conditions that must be addressed. Coatings
utilized must also exhibit strong abrasion and impact resistance due to the working
conditions encountered on these platforms.
Nukote products provide solutions to the coating design requirements for these
applications. Our polyurea products provide the durability, abrasion and corrosion
resistance required in most applications. Where high temperatures and heavy
hydrocarbon content are encountered, Admetal or composites of polyurea and
Admetal provide the required solutions.
INDUSTRY: Aviation
USE: Anticorrosion
SYSTEM: SS100 2 mm
JOB DESCRIPTION: Jet fueling pits on the tarmac of Anchorage International Airport were
sprayed with SS100 to prevent spilled fuel from leaking into the ground. SS100 was chosen because
it was not only resistant to many chemicals and a variety of fuels, but also because it could be applied
over a possibly contaminated substrate. SS100 was also ideal because of its ability to withstand
extreme freeze-thaw cycles common to the Alaskan environment.
The finished pits have performed excellently despite continued exposure to jet fuel, water, and anti-
icing agent. There is some change in color, but no breakdown in material. SS100 was applied onto
concrete, geotextile fabric and directly onto the ground.

USE: Anticorrosion
SYSTEM: Interior—HT
Exterior-ST
base with AL
top coat
JOB DESCRIPTION: The owner actually had two separate coating needs to protect his
investment by extending the boat’s useful life.
The primary need was exterior coating. The exterior coating system included a translucent ST base
coat with a colored topcoat for both appearance and resistance to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Pool
blue was used above the waterline and light blue was used below the waterline.
The interior coating needs were best met using medium gray HT.
Required surface preparation includes abrasive blasting removing all rust and previous coating and
the application of a primer (especially in areas where the original coating or rust remains). HT can
also be used to enhance adhesion.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Nukote Polyureas have been used by the US Military for many years. The US Navy has recently
accepted the products for use as a special vessel coating. Nukote ELP is used as an aircraft
carrier deck coating and was selected for its ability to be applied at sea, self-leveling
characteristics and durability. Nukote HT was selected for use as a Nuclear Submarine coating for
its durability, sound attenuation and spray texture capability (non-slip deck surfaces).
INDUSTRY: Chemical
processing
USE: Anti-corrosion
SYSTEM: 3 mm SS100
JOB DESCRIPTION: SS100 was applied over existing polyurethane in the launders of 44
flotation cells, which was failing due to severe blistering.
The polyurethane was high-pressure water blasted, treated with N-Methyl-Prolidone solvent and
washed. Finally, it was coated with 3 mm DFT SS100.
The product’s rapid cure time enabled the plant to be commissioned well ahead of schedule saving
the owner substantial amounts of money in down time.
The coating pylons were pile driven into the seabed where they have performed without trouble or
complaint. The coating’s attributes naturally reject marine borers, which cause substantial damage to
most other coatings.
JOB DESCRIPTION: SS100 with AE4 was applied over the substrate after washing it with 3,000
psi water. Rusted areas were ground to white metal.
SS100’s fast drying time prevented the tide from adversely affecting the coating.
SS100 was chosen as a long-term corrosion protection coating because it is tough, flexible, saltwater
resistant, and its cure time made it unaffected by tides. Its durability makes it damage resistant from
fishing boats that tie up to the wharf.

POLYUREA PROJECT PROFILE
PROJECT: Insulated piping
The straight sections of the pipe systems were applied using the patened lathe technology referenced
above.
USE: Anticorrosion
SYSTEM: SS100
JOB DESCRIPTION: SS100 was chosen to coat the interior and exterior of this potable water
pipe. The pipe was abrasion blasted to a 1mm profile and the SS100 was applied directly onto the
pipe.
Coating both sides lengthens the pipe’s useful life by reducing corrosion. The interior coating also
helps reduce friction making the pipeline more efficient.
Nukote is certified for use with potable water in both Australia and the UK.
USE: Anticorrsion/insulation
For most oil and gas insulated piping, the pipe is first
coated with polyurethane foam according to the owner’s
required thickness. The foam is planed down to
provide a level substrate. The planed foam is then coated with Nukote polyurea as per the owner’s
required dft.
The coated pipe is ready to be moved and installed within minutes. The in-field joining can be
accomplished using polyurethane foam half shells and the Nukote polyurea can be applied using
either a standard dual-component spray machine or using Nukote hand-applied polyurea.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The tanks were cleaned and then sprayed with 6” of 2# polyurethane foam
for insulation. SS100 at a 1 mm dft was sprayed on top of the foam for an anticorrosion cover. The
tank was sprayed with aluminum color.
In addition to the tanks, the concrete dykes were sprayed with the same polyurea in black as a
secondary containment coating.
PROJECT: El Segundo
INDUSTRY: Manufacturing
RESULTS: Excellent
Project Description:
This tank project required a membrane not an attached liner, due to its construction
that included gaps and seams too large to apply directly to the substrate. A
geotextile fabric was selected for use as the membrane backing. The fabric was
rolled out to overlap at all vertical and horizontal seams and then coated with spray
applied ABC Polyurea to a DFT of 2 mm. This application method provides a
seamless membrane that can move with expansion and contractions, is entirely
waterproof and resistant to acids and alkalis up to 10% content by volume. The
exterior of the tank wall to floor interface was also sealed using Seal 100 inject able
Polyurea.
INDUSTRY: Mining
JOB DESCRIPTION: The concrete tanks were sweep grit blasted and then obvious cracks were
filled with epoxy grouting. SS100 was applied at 1.5-2 mm dft.
Cracks that had previously caused leaking of the deionized water were sealed and the tanks remain
watertight.

RESULTS: Excellent
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The new roof system comprised a complex variety of materials including metal, EPDM and Nukote
Coating Systems. Nukote HT was utilized on all parapet to flashing interfaces. The entire
perimeter parapet area was encapsulated to eliminate failing concrete falling onto the new glass
façade that covered the building perimeter. Nukote Polyureas were also utilized in all gutter drains
and around many penetrations throughout the facility.
INDUSTRY: Entertainment
USE: Stadium
SYSTEM: Nukote ST

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The slope and valleys within the ridge system were a design problem for conventional roofing
system. Polyurea was the ideal solution due to its shape conforming spray application
characteristics. Removal of the old roofing membrane to the concrete substrate was followed by
application of a polymer primer and then 1.5mm of ST. A white polymeric top coating was then
roll applied to provide enhanced ultra-violet resistance.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Nukote Polyureas are simple to apply in roofing applications. The spray applied form fitting nature
of the product makes it ideal for roofing surfaces with variable shapes, slopes and interfaces that
are difficult for standard roofing materials to be applied to. These characteristics are not the only
reason that owners, architects and contractors choose Nukote products for their roofing solution
needs.
Hydrophobic nature (water does not affect the curing process), fast cure time, durability and total
cost are other primary reasons Nukote products are utilized. Nukote Polyureas simply provide a
total cost effective solution to most roofing applications and substrates.

Project Description:
The combination of Geotextile fabrics with Polyurea coating are fast becoming the
preferred choice for secondary containment in many applications. The geotextile
fabric is laid out with overlapping seams around the desired perimeters.
Penetrations of pipes or other obstacles are easily cut around, rolling the fabric
above grade and tight to the penetration or obstacle. The entire surface area is then
coated with a Polyurea to the desired DFT and a seamless watertight membrane is
established. Note that new mesh products provide even more durable bases then
geotextile fabrics and allow for lower DFT applications thus reducing overall costs
while maintaining quality. Contact you’re nearest Nukote representative for details.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Great Western had a new concrete containment cell that needed
protection against a variety of chemicals that were being transferred from rail tank cars to over-the-
road carriers. They reported the most aggressive chemical they expected to transport was 80%
hydrochloric acid.
To test SS100 performance with such a high concentration a cardboard box was coated and filled
with 80% hydrochloric acid. After 7 days the coated showed signs of deterioration. Great Western
decided to use SS100 because federal laws require a spill of 80% hydrochloric acid be cleaned up
within 24 hours.

geotextile fabric
COATED AREA: 50 m²
JOB DESCRIPTION: ST was the only choice to contain acid and organic spills because the
concrete substrate was soaked with oil and wax preventing adhesion of other coating products.
ST's flexibility, elongation, chemical resistance, and ability to adhere and provide a waterproof
membrane over geotextile fabric. Using the geotextile fabric a seamless membrane was created
without the need for adhesion to the substrate.
The application was so successful it reduced what would have been a 28-day downtime to 24 hours
saving the owner substantial amounts of money.

JOB DESCRIPTION: SS100 was chosen over existing polyethylene systems, which had
previously failed allowing electrolyte and other acids to penetrate and contaminate the concrete.
The contaminated concrete was scabbled out and topped with a cement repair mixture. The surface
was primed with multiprime and then coated with SS100 with a 2 mm dft.
The flexibility, toughness, acid resistance and minimum downtime enabled the area to be back in
service within hours.
JOB DESCRIPTION: SS100 was chosen to replace the customized drop-in liners previously
used because they typically leaked around the penetrations and piping.
The concrete surfaces were steam cleaned and piping was grit blasted. Approximately 1” of 3#
polyurethane foam was applied to smooth irregularities in the concrete. SS100 was applied to 2-2.5
mm dft. SS100 sealed the seams, including around the penetrating piping, without any problem.
The pits contain water and steam from the hydro cracker as well as jet fuel, crude oil, gasoline,
naptha, and dissolved sulfuric acid. Temperatures range from 0° to 149°.
USE: Secondary

JOB DESCRIPTION: A direct quote from a Petro Marine project manager, “After looking for
several years into liners for tank farms, we have found this to be the best liner on the market today. It
has the advantage of not having to have a sand covering on top, which will give us 100% monitoring
ability daily and the ability to clean up any fuels without contaminating the ground cover over a buried
liner. The second reason this liner is superior is we can visually examine the integrity of the liner at
anytime. There is not a buried liner anywhere that can be examined or determined to be leak tight.
In most cases on seamed, rolled liners the seams start coming off in a couple of years.”
The project involved four tank farms throughout Alaska, USA each farm containing numerous tanks
and piping for a variety of fuels. All floors and walls are concrete and were covered with 2.5 mm of
SS100 over geo-textile fabric.
The perimeter of the metal tanks were abraded, primed and masked to .3 m from the ground. The
geo-textile was used to counter-flash of the tank chines as an expansion joint. SS100 was then
sprayed to the masked line on the tank.

Project Description:
Many manufacturing
processes require
insulated storage tanks
either during processing or
for storage of the
completed product.
Application of insulation
and then shielding the insulation from weather, moisture, etc., with aluminum or steel
has been the common method utilized in the past.
Pre-insulated composites that use spray applied polyurethane foam and polyurea
outer jacketing are fast making the older method obsolete. Spray applied
polyurethane foam is one of the best insulators available, far exceeding fiberglass,
mineral wool or other standard insulation medias. The foam adheres readily to steel
or concrete surfaces without primers and is inexpensive. Polyurea chemically cross-
links with polyurethane foams providing a strong bond without primers as well. This
system is durable, efficient and cost effective while providing long life expectancy to
the end user. Contact your Nukote representative to calculate insulation and coating
thickness required for your projects specific needs.

Project Description:
BP had a problem. The soil condition in Northern Alaska is very unstable due to the
permanent frozen sub soils (permafrost). The topsoil layers freeze and thaw
dependent on seasons and temperature swings and mud/slush slides are not
uncommon. When these slides occur adjacent to the main Alaska Crude Oil Pipeline
and can cause major disruptions in the flow of oil with the associated environmental
contamination, a solution had to be found.
The solution provided was to use geotextile fabric with Polyurea and sand bagging on
slopes adjacent to the pipeline.
