Arctic Control provides remote monitoring and control of

several switchgears and disconnectors. In addition to the

direct switchgear controlling and monitoring capability Arctic

....
..
....

Control has many special features like:

Charging and condition monitoring of external battery
Overcurrent detection for protection of switchgear
motor fuses

Arctic Control

Compliant to IEC-104 communication protocol for

SCADA communication

Makes the existing medium voltage network

ready for future Smart Grid requirements.

High level of communication security

Reliable GPRS/EDGE communication with automatic

monitoring and connection re-establisment

Deploying Arctic Control to medium voltage distribution

network overall quality improvement is achieved by
reduced blackout times, better network status information

Remote Wireless Control for

Electricity Distribution Network Assets

for preventive maintenance as well as remote control of

remote sites. All these lead also to direct cost savings when
the life-cycle of existing primary devices are extended and
unnecessary site visits can be avoided.

The Arctic Control Solution enables cost-optimized control and monitoring of

medium voltage network assets such as disconnectors, load break switches and
ring main units in energy distribution networks. It provides always-on wireless
connectivity together with the intelligence needed for disconnector control and
monitoring, and also with supporting features such as battery charging and
condition monitoring.
Wireless connectivity is implemented via commercial mobile networks, thus
reducing investment and operational costs. Used in conjunction with always-on
communication from a SCADA system, this method achieves an ideal combination
of local and centralized intelligence for real time systems in a cost-efficient way.

APPLICATION
EXAMPLES

..

Disconnectors, reclosers,
switchgears, RMUs

Battery testing
Switch off charger
Switch on the dummy load
Measurement of current and
voltage for a defined period
The results are reported in
IEC-104 messages to the
control room

Overcurrent detection
and shut-down

..

Software fuse functionality:

Load current and duration
measurement protects the
motor by shutting off power
to it before the motors own
fuse blows

Protection against complete

battery discharge

..

DIMENSIONS

177 mm

If the measured battery

voltage is below a defined
limit an IEC-104 event is sent
and battery is disconnected.
