LESSON PLAN

Course: Here comes super bus 1

Unit of learning: My family
Topic: Goodnight Jerry!
Main focus: speaking skill
Aims: - to give ss practice in speaking and listening/ comprehension skills
- to introduce vocabulary concerning family
- to recycle vocabulary related to clothes, colours and parts of the body
LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS
- greeting someone
- describing people s appearance
- Introducing family members
- Asking things

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE
- ss have already learnt TO BE (present form)
and how to identify themselves.
- ss are familiar with oral commands, parts of
the body, counting 1- 20, clothes, colours,
position( right, left, up, down) and classroom
language.

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS
If ss do not understand the oral commands or the tasks, they will be translated into Romanian.
AIDS/ MATERIALS: a real camera, flashcards(parts of the body, family), tape, cassette recorder, TV
set, video player, video tape(Here Comes Superbus), textbook, activity book, a puppet hand, medals
made of paper, poster 4, a hat.
ACTIVITY 1 WARMER
Aims: - to warm ss up
- to have ss describe people s appearance( Catch the gangster game)
Timing: 10 min.
Interaction: T-S, S-S
Procedure:
Ss are asked different qs about themselves(name, age, state of health, favourite colour) and say the
chantPaul Winn Matt.
T walks around the classroom with her finger puppet speaking in the detective s voice: Urgent! Urgent!
This is Detective Bush speaking. There s a gangster in this class.The gangster is wearingI repeat: the
gangster is wearingCan you see the gangster? Congratulations! The ss who guesses the gangster
will get a medal.
T does the same with 2-3 ss using the same structure pattern.T asks a volunteer to take the role of the
detective.

ACTIVITY 2 CHECKING THE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE


AIM: to review vocabulary related to parts of the body( Kim s game)
Timing: 10 min

Interaction T- S

Procedure
T shows 8- 10 flashcards at the front of the class and asks ss to look at them for 1 min. Afterwards T
removes all the cards, takes out 2 and shows the rest of the cards in a different order. The first s to
guess which cards have been taken out is the winner. Ss say the chant I ve got 10 little fingers.
ACTIVITY 3 LEAD- IN
AIM:- to get ss into the new topic
Timing 5 min

Procedure
T takes a picture of a group of 7 ss and explain that the word cheese is used to make people smile
when a photo is being taken. T says: Today is Jerry s birthday. Let s sing Happy birthday to
him.
T plays the tape and ss clap hands while saying the chant Family photograph.
Afterwards T gives them the family and cat and dog flashcards. Ss hold up t5heir flashcards when
they hear their member of the family.
ACTIVITY 4 PRE- LISTENING WITH VIDEO ( STORY 4 )
AIMS -to recognise and use new language related to family
-to give ss practice in listening/ comprehension

Procedure:
T plays the tape while pointing to the appropriate picture on the poster fixed at the front of the classroom and
using lots of gestures. T introduces new words( icecream, a glass of water, television programme, vanilla,
chocolate) and ss repeat them in chorus.
ACTIVITY 5 WHILE LISTENING WITH VIDEO FOR GENERAL UNDERSTANDING
AIMS:- to get ss understand the video story Goodnight Jerry
- to use greetings and family words
timing 5

Procedure
T plays the video tape and ss watch the video story repeating the greetings when necessary.

ACTIVITY 6 POST- LISTENING WITH VIDEO


AIMS: -to give ss practice in speaking
- to practise the new language( game Say ggodnight to mummy, daddy, grandma, grandpa and
Jerry)

procedure
T divides the class into 5 groups and gives each group the name of one of the characters in the story. All the
ss must close their eyes except those in Jerry s group.t points to one of the characters in the story on the
poster. The activity goes as follows:
Eg.( T points to mummy on the poster)
Jerry s group: Goodnight mummy!
Mummy s group with eyes closed: Goodnight Jerry!
The game can be continued by swapping the names of the groups.
ACTIVITY 7 EVALUATION + HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
AIMS to evaluate ss work
to assign ss homework

Procedure
T grades some ss and accounts for them.ss are assigned to make a mini- project by sticking small photographs
of their own family as homework.
