ASTROTURF-NRG STADIUM FACT SHEET

ASTROTURF RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS IN HOUSTON

AstroTurf will install a full field over the course of three working days for the Houston
Texans.

AstroTurf, since its inception and over the last five decades, has continuously devoted itself
to leading the synthetic turf industry in
technology and innovation. Since the early
1980s, AstroTurf has been the expert in
convertible systems. Only a company with
deep experience in the difficult conversion
market could deliver results with the task at
handturning a concrete floor into a
90,000+ square foot, infilled football field
that is ready for NFL play.

AstroTurf has installed convertible fields at

the University of Wyoming, Texas Tech
University, University of Houston, the
Turf Installation NRG Stadium 2012
Silverdome,
Idaho
State
University,
University of North Carolina, Washington State University, the U.S. Naval Academy,
Northern Michigan University, Torontos Rogers Centre, the Edward Jones Dome, the
Fargodome, the University of South Dakota, and the Alerus Center. It brings decades of
experience in these specialty systems to NRG Stadium.

NRG Stadium installed a convertible AstroTurf GameDay Grass 3D60 field in 2012. The
convertible system provides the facility with the flexibility to switch from a grass field to a
synthetic turf field in as fast as seven hours.
The conversion is performed by the
AstroHopper system, which rolls up the field
in 59 fifteen foot wide panels.

Up to this point, the field has been used for

non-NFL sporting events.

AstroTurf has its roots in Houston. The

Astrodome was built in 1965. Problems arose
when glare from the glass dome impeded

Astros outfielders from catching pop ups.
Painting the ceiling fixed the pop up dilemma,
but deprived the grass of sunlight. The Astrodome encountered a new problemgrass
would not grow without ample light. Synthetic grass was installed in the Astrodome to solve
the turf quandary in 1966. Thus the AstroTurf brand was born and revolutionized the
sports world for the first time.
