Welcome to Creativity magazine. We are

starting this issue with a big thank you
to Tina Piper, Creativitys Editor for over 15
years. Shes given crafters a huge amount of
inspiration across all 61 issues and we hope she has a very happy, well-deserved
retirement. Tina, we promise to keep the ideas fowing!
In craft news, the Christmas countdown has begun and this month we are
focusing our inspiration on those all-important cards for family and friends.
Weve challenged our talented designers with the very latest festive craft
collections and there are 2O fabulous projects to get you started. Look out for
more Christmas decoration and gifting ideas over the next two issues on the lead
up to the holiday season.
If you are inspired by the projects in this issue, make sure you check out page
91 before making your next trip to a docrafts Creativity Store. There are moneyoff vouchers on all the latest Christmas collections, including Papermania Folk
Christmas, Papermania Pocket Full Of Posies, Christmas With Wellington and
Jolly Santa. Little savings here and there make for more crafting goodies!
Weve also spent the time since last issue indulging in the enchanting world of
Santoros latest Gorjuss collection. The wintery feel and beautifully hand-illustrated
characters have got us all excited and this issue boasts 18 pages of inspiration,
technique workshops and quick makes that arent to be missed.
We hope you enjoy the issue. Happy crafting!

Die cut the top layer of the die set from

Nature's Gallery green cardstock. Die cut
two extra trees and one extra chair in the same

the top layer, scoring along the edges and easing
forward to give added dimension. Add glitter glue to
the trees.

Attach a nal top layer die cut from green

Attach a decoupage sentiment to the side

of the scene, topped with a bow. Glue a strip
of scalloped pattern paper, topped with a length

andy canes, gingerbread men, toy soldiers and

holly: a blueprint for classic Christmas crafting
and all found in the warm and cosy Papermania
Jolly Santa collection. These three cards feature the
three main characters in the collection with
Jolly Santa himself, accompanied by a warm
gingerbread man and a cool snowman. The
stamped or decoupage images make wonderful
focal points on Christmas cards; simply use other
elements from the collection with embellishments
from your stash to make them truly unique.
Flying Santa
Jolly Santa fying over snowy rooftops in a sleigh
laden with presents is an iconic Christmas image
that doesn't have to be reserved for children. The

circular decoupage lends itself to being framed with

a doily die-cut, with kraftstax and Capsule Oyster
Blush jumbo crochet trim adding a neutral tone.
Layer co-ordinating papers on a 6 x 6" kraft card
blank then add faux stitching and the crochet trim.
Die cut a kraftstax sunfower doily as a base for the
assembled Santa decoupage and stick inside the
die-cut circles using 3D foam squares. Embellish
with a couple of die-cut presents and petal posies
with punched holly leaves, a large ribbon bow and
a few adhesive pearls. Tuck a die-cut sentiment
under the bow to fnish.

panel and colour the image with a combination of
Artiste dual-tip watercolour or marker pens and
dye inks. Scribble the pens on an acrylic block then
apply with a damp paint brush to achieve an even
nish. Add a row of faux stitching and then mat the
coloured image on kraftstax. Mat tartan paper on
kraftstax, gingerbread paper and then a 4 x 4" card
blank to co-ordinate the look of the layers. Stick
the gingerbread man on top with 3D foam squares,
sandwiching a piece of hessian and a length of
ribbon down the side. Twist together the wire stems
of red and white petal posies and a couple of red
berries then nish with a bit of bling in the form of
star charms and adhesive gems.
TIP Dont waste the wire stems: wind them around

the end of a paint brush to create a coil and add

amongst the oral arrangement.
Snowman
A good helping of holly in various guises on the
papers, palm-punched holly branches and leaves
tucked in the snowman's hat give a lovely wintry
feel to this snowy scene. Die cut a variety of sizes
of large square parenthesis dies in co-ordinating
patterned and plain Jolly Santa papers, ink the
edges and layer as the background on an 8 x 8" card
blank. Add a heart-shaped Eau de Nil Lace Paper
and top with the assembled snowman decoupage.
Tuck punched holly branches under the decoupage,
adding gems or buttons as holly berries. Finish with

Let it snow!

Create this cute snow globe card with your cover gift
stamps and Papermania's Christmas with Wellington

haker cards are right on trend at the moment

and with Christmas in mind I thought Id turn
one into a snow globe. I used a cute image of
Wellington behind the snow globe, but a
festive Santa or wintry Anita's decoupage topper
would work just as well. The snowake stamps
from the Folk Christmas cover gift on the front

Snow globe card

Your
cover gifts

Decorate the inside of an A6 gate fold card

blank with starry paper and text paper from
the Christmas with Wellington A4 ultimate die-cut
and paper pack.

Cut half a circle on each side of the front

of the card using the inside of the medium
circle cutter of an Xcut Shape Cutter System to
create the aperture.

Make the snow globe as described in the

steps below and attach the snow globe to
the left of the card front with double-sided tape.

Using the inside of the medium circle from

the shape cutter system, cut three small
dark red circles. Discard the inner piece and cut
around the aperture making a O.5cm wide circular
frame. Adhere one frame with double-sided tape
around the rim of the snow globe, covering the
3D foam square rim. Adhere the second circular

frame around the rim on the inside of the card. Cut

the third frame in half and cover the inside and
outside of the half aperture on the right gatefold.
Cover the join in the papers on the inside
with a star die-cut border, leaving an 8cm
overow on the left. Make a sandwich of 3D foam
squares between cardboard and fold the end of the
border over this to make the snow globe stand.

Assemble the Wellington decoupage with

3D foam dots and adhere inside the card so
it can be seen through the snow globe. Add a
die-cut sentiment to the snow globe stand and use
the cover gift stamp set to stamp a urry of silver
snowakes on the front of the card.
TIP Use sequins, silver stars or coarse Glitz It Glitter
Pot glitter inside the snow globe as ne glitter will
stick to the inside of the acetate circles rather than
moving, making it difcult to see through.

How to... make the snow globe

Cut a circle from a sheet of acetate

using the outside of the small circle
from the Xcut Shape Cutter System. Repeat to
cut a second circle.

Cut a strip of 3D foam squares in half

and adhere them around the outside
edge of one of the acetate circles, without
leaving any spaces in-between.

Tip silver stars from a Create Christmas

Embellishments Pack on to the circle
with the foam rim. Carefully peel off the
backings and adhere the second circle on top.

A 'gorjus' little journal

A handmade keepsake embellished with warm, rich papers, decoupage and
toppers, adds a personal touch to sharing those 'gorjuss moments'

reating your own mini journal from scratch

gives such a sense of accomplishment as well
as being fun to make. Handmade pieces such as
this can be fantastic gifts for friends and relatives,
especially if you ll the pockets with photos,
keepsakes and memorabilia that are special to
them. To make an 'altered art' feel to your album,
embellish heavily and use some paints, spritzing
inks and scrunched papers. For a fresher look,
allow the warm tweeds and pretty stitched
frames and borders of the 'gorjuss girls' to create
the atmosphere.
The base of this journal is made from
Papermania Small White Gift Bags - a great way to
assemble and produce lots of pages and pockets
in a journal - and decorated with elements from
Santoro's Gorjuss new A4 Ultimate Die-cut and

gift bags, in either the small or large sizes, and
decorating the pages with Bare Basics kraft stickers,
cork tags and caption wooden letters.

Paige Evans' Top Tips for Bok Binding

FEATURED
BLOGGER

1. Use binder rings: They come in all

colours and sizes making it straightforward
to connect pages and to keep adding to the
album. Simply use bigger and bigger rings.

4. Accordion fold: Glue rectangular sheets

of paper together and divide into even
sections. Fold to create an accordion-style
album that can be decorated on both sides.

2. Sew the album: Stack sheets of paper

then hand or machine stitch straight down
the middle. Fold the pages in half for a
handmade album.

5. Unusual binding: Create a book from

scratch with your favourite papers then use
anything that can be drilled through to make
covers. Get creative and try things such as
licence plates, solid plastic, chipboard or
wood. Use a traditional Coptic binding or
Japanese stab binding.

3. Coil bind: Take your pages to a print shop

and ask them to bind your book with coils.

PAPER CRAFT

Decorating the pages

The Santoro's Gorjuss A4 Ultimate Die-cut

and Paper Pack is perfect for decorating and
embellishing this little journal. The papers,
decoupage and toppers are in separate sections,
so everything easy to fnd and can be stored away
neatly. There are also extra tags and toppers
printed inside the packaging.
Each of the 'gorjuss girls' has her own tartan,
tweed and colour palette, so it's simple to ensure
a harmonised look to each page. Add paper to the
panels on each page and then add a selection of
co-ordinating die-cuts, decoupage and toppers to
showcase the corresponding character as the focal
point. Use Stick it! 3D foam squares to give added
dimension to the decoupage.
Highlight the toppers with matching felt shapes
to create a cameo effect or use wooden frames to
emphasise detail. Embellish the pages with large
ribbon bows, buttons, gems and adhesive dome
stickers. Stamp and colour different characters on
cardstock and create a little fip book to decorate
one of the pages.
Make the cover stand out a little by adding
extra die-cuts and a bouquet of petal posies and
skeleton leaves to the decoupage frame. Decorate
the spine with a length of crochet trim topped with
a matching ribbon trim bow.

t is amazing what you can create

with everyday objects and a few
key items from your craft stash.
Who would have thought that graters
would make an ideal lantern? Rays
of light twinkling away through the
variety of holes in each side. Whats
more, with plenty of paints and
embellishments to choose from,
each grater can be decorated to
match any room.
To achieve this particular look,
use several coats of Artiste Acrylic
Paint in blush pink and buttermilk.
Thankfully, its not time consuming,
as the paint dries quickly, but make
sure each coat is dry before adding
the next. A couple of coats of Artiste
Matt Varnish on top protects the paint
and ensures a robust fnish.
Embellishments have been kept
to a minimum on this occasion, with
just a few Denim Blue dome stickers,
Neon 3D glitterations borders and
ribbon. However, you could go to
town with buttons, beads and charms
all over. Finally, battery-operated
lights work well in these lamps as all
the wires can be tucked away inside
each grater. Enjoy!

I took up scrapbooking about

ten years ago as I had loads of
baby photos of my son. This
developed into card making.
I posted a card on the docrafts Forum gallery
using one of the new 'gorjuss girl' stamps and
the team contacted me to see if I'd like to be
featured in the Creativity magazine talent spot.
I was delighted to accept! For my card I used
the 'Dear Alice' stamp, giving her hair a funky

Cut a circle base from a piece of

tool to cut around the outside of the three
different sized circles. Cut a 6 base for a
large fower, a 5 base for a medium fower
and a 4 base for a small fower.

Cut cardstock squares using a

guillotine. For a large blue fower cut
4O x 4, six 3.5 and three 3. For a medium
red fower cut 4O x 3.5, six 3 and three 2.5.
For a small green fower cut 4O x 3, six 2.5
and three 2.

Roll the squares into cones, staple them at

the bottom to keep their shape and use a
small bead of hot glue from a glue gun to hold the
overlap in position. Try the alternatives shown in
step 6 before rolling into cones for the red
and green fowers.

Glue six cones on the fourth row. To secure the three centre
cones, glue them together frst with hot glue, making sure the
seams are on the inside. Fold the bottoms of the cones outwards and
glue in the centre of the fower, holding until set.

Draw circles on the base as a positioning guide. Using a glue gun,

glue the cones into position on the base, one row at a time. Use 16
cones on the outer two rows and eight cones on the third row. Alternate
the shades to create an ombre effect.

Try one of the following variations for

a different effect. To make the petals
on the red fower, round one corner of the
cone with a corner punch and ink the edges
with a white ink pad. To make the green
fower, cut the squares O.5 larger and punch
two adjacent edges with a scallop border,

Santoros Gorjuss Rubber Stamps are perfect to use on shrink

plastic to create a miniature image. This clever craft medium can
be stamped and coloured before heating and watching it shrink

Rub the surface of a sheet of Papermania A4 Shrink Plastic with

sandpaper or an emery board in a circular motion and brush off
the dust. Place the 'Waiting' stamp on a clear stamp block, dab a black
dye ink pad over the image, stamp on the shrink plastic and leave to dry.

Once dry, place an Xcut Leaves Nesting Die around the image,
making sure the stamped image is exactly in the centre, and run
through the A4 Xpress die-cutting machine. Smooth any rough edges
with sandpaper and punch a hole in the top with a screw hole punch.

Rub a pink dye ink pad around the edges of the die-cut shape.
Colour in the stamped image using Artiste Watercolour Dual Tip
Pens. Keep in mind that the colours on the image will become darker
after the plastic has been shrunk. Place on a at, heatproof surface.

Begin heating the shrink plastic with a heat tool. The plastic will
begin shrinking and curling up. Keep applying heat until the
image stops shrinking then push it down to atten while still keeping
heat on it. Place cardstock over the top and lightly rub until cooled.

Colour shrink plastic with

a pink permanent marker
and, when dry, stamp with hearts.
Cut out and shrink as before. Glue to
the sides of the main image, adding
gems either side. Glue white felt to
the back and trim to t. Hook a jump

Warm yourself up this autumn with these

cute, decorated biscuits
mpress your friends when they turn up for a
cuppa with these textured bakes! Roll out cookie
dough to about 5mm thick, then cut them out
using heart, star, Easter egg and circle cutters. Place
on a baking tray spaced well apart, bake and leave
to cool. You don't have to restrict yourself to purely
cake-decorating tools to create a bit of texture; Xcut
embossing folders will do the trick, but make sure
they are scrupulously clean and kept separately
from your craft stash.
TIP After cutting your cookie shapes from the
dough, pop them back in the fridge for 2O minutes
to chill this helps to stop them spreading!

Pipe a straight line over the ends of the

basket-weave beads with the #3 nozzle.
Fill the alternate gaps to create a staggered basket

Bow cokie

Pipe ve rows of blue royal icing down the

middle of a circle cookie using a #33 star
nozzle, slightly offsetting each of the rows.

To make each bow, cut a 7 x 1cm wide strip

of thinly rolled white sugarpaste. Curve each
end to the middle and secure with a little water.

Basket-weave cokie

Fill two piping bags with white royal icing;

one with a #3 medium writer nozzle and
one with a #47 basket weave nozzle. Starting at the
edge of an oval cookie, pipe two 1 cm basket weave
beads, a nozzle width apart.

Wrap a short strip around the join, securing

at the back. Glue to the cookie with a little
royal icing, adding two long sugarpaste tails.

Papermania Tall Urban
Stamps Postal Frame
worth 4.5O each

Christmas doesn't have to be all about sparkle. Give your festive

makes an antiqued look with three simple distressing techniques
ome people love all the glitz and sparkle at
Christmas, while others would appreciate
something a little more subtle that isn't covered
with glitter! I made a few Christmas cards with
a difference, all based on the Papermania Postal
Frame Tall Urban Stamp but aged in different ways
to satisfy the non-bling lovers.

Have a Very Merry Christmas

Soaking paper and then adding paint is much
more effective than soaking in tea to age a project!
Follow the step below to age and distress a piece of
white textured cardstock and leave to dry. Stamp
the postal frame on the crumpled paper in brown
ink, cut out and ink the edges. Add a few glitter dot
stickers, a large red button and a jute bow with an
inked Wellington postage stamp before matting on
green then red cardstock. Tuck a rafa tab between
the layers on the top right then mat the panels on
an A6 kraft card. Embellish with more glitter dot
stickers and a few gems.
Merry Christmas
Adding brown dye ink is one of the most effective
ways of creating an antique effect. To create this,
follow the step below on a postal frame stamped

in black ink on core card and embossed with a star

embossing folder. Add a Wellington postage stamp
and an outline sticker sentiment. Mat on light then
dark grey cardstock, tucking a little rafa tab in the
top-right corner. Wrap jute twine threaded with
silver stars around the panels before attaching to
the front of an A6 kraft card. Add a star to the tab
and gems to nish.
Happy Christmas
On this postcard, spraying with black spritzing ink
over ragged pieces of tissue paper creates the aged
look. To make the main panel, stamp the postal
frame in black ink on white textured cardstock,
smear areas with PVA glue then add pieces of tissue
paper to the glue. Heat emboss the postcard with
different sizes of snowake by stamping with clear
embossing ink then covering the stamped area
with seafoam white embossing powder. Shake off
excess powder then heat with a heat tool. Distress
as shown below, then trim and mat the panel on
red cardstock. Ink and add tissue paper as before
to a white cardstock panel, then layer all the panels
with red cardstock on an A6 kraft card. Embellish
with ribbon, a sentiment and a ribbon tab then add
a Wellington postage stamp and gems to nish.

How to... age the papers

Sponge water on the cardstock,

crumple up then leave at. Roughly
paint with brown ink mixed with water.

Ink all over with brown dye ink then

gently sand the tops of the embossed
stars to remove most of the ink.

After heat embossing, apply spritzing

ink to the bottom-left corner. Once dry,
ink the edges generously with brown ink.

It also lends itself to more tricky masculine

Open the card and place inside down

on a cutting mat to avoid inadvertently
sticking the front and back covers together.
Layer the wooden heart on a second heart to
add a different height dimension to the card.
Thread raffa through the holes in the tags
then arrange the wooden shapes together.
Glue where they overlap each other and to the
aperture edge, making the tags appear to foat
within the aperture. Fold the raffa around the
aperture edge and glue to secure.

Using a piece of stamp pad foam, brush

blue dye ink around the edges of each

the tiles over the tags using hot glue. Double up
some of the tiles to give additional height.

Wrap blue bakers twine around the

Adhere the bobbin to the card below the
sentiment, draping the excess twine across to
the edge of the card. Add a small wooden peg

second kraft cardstock frame to strengthen the
card and support the weight of the wood.

from the papers for the spine. Place the

holding in place with double-sided tape. Remove

the book and machine stitch the toppers in place.

Stitch crochet trim along the top and

An afternoon make
As soon as I saw the template I knew I would make the circle into a
Christmas bauble, and the Victorian Christmas papers were ideal for this. I cut a circle
in red, backed with silver card, and added the smaller snowakes, cutting some in
half to give the bauble a 3D effect. I used two background papers with a strip over the
join, the glitterations snowakes bringing a bit of sparkle to the background. I added
two die-cut squares to the decoupaged sleigh, decorated advent numbers with silver
scraps and made banners from paper and silver card with December stickers.

THE STORY BEHIND... JOS DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! LAYOUT
Many people dont like their handwriting, so
here are a few alternatives. The most popular
alternative is to type and print your journaling
from a computer. The great thing about this is
you can check the spellings, change the font and
the letter size and format it just how you want it
before printing it out and committing it to paper.
Another way to get your journaling on your
page is to use stamps. I used the Papermania Bare
Basics wooden alphabet stamps on this layout.
Stamping can be time consuming and, of course,

mistakes can happen, so when Im stamping

my journaling I keep it concise to reduce the
possibility of this. By stamping journaling strips
rather than a block of text, if something does go
wrong then I only need to re-do a few words and
not a whole paragraph.
Having said that, I still believe it is important
to use your handwriting sometimes; it makes
the page more personal. Why not write on a tag
and pop it in a pocket? Youve told your story, but
handwriting is hidden from view.

Printing journaling on vellum is a surprisingly
easy technique with no fear of bad handwriting

cork stickers were perfect for the colours in my

just a case of arranging my photos and the Denim

of an A4 vellum sheet, leaving enough
space to place additional cork words. Trim to
15 x 29cm and cut a piece of Parisienne Blue
paper to the same size. Add the cork sticker
words to complete the journaling.

Adhere a circle die-cut notelet to a 12 x

the patterned paper off centre, covering half
the notelet. Adhere the journaled vellum over

white cardstock.
Align the prints

This technique gives
a denim look to the

white edges and

Mat all the photos and blue strips to the layout. Fussy cut design
elements from the paper, turning the scissors not the paper to
ensure a more accurate cut. Tuck under the small photo and the notelet.

Hi Creativity,
When I celebrated my 5Oth birthday, I took the week off work and did something
every day, dressed in purple or lilac. On Sunday I took my friend Chris to The Range
in York. I took the opportunity to add to my birthday week pictures when the photo
was developed I was amazed to see that most of us were in shades of purple or
blended beautifully.
I loved the new men's collection and bought some card blanks to use for Father's Day.
They also came in handy for my friend's husband's 5Oth two weeks after mine.

BLOG
SPOT
Meet Kathy Black, an avid crafter, traveller and DIYer
who loves to share her handiwork on her blog
When not travelling with her husband or
planning and designing the renovations of their
home, Kathy Black loves to create all sorts of
different cards. She shares them on her blog
and also enters various online challenges. We
caught up with her for a chat about crafting,
comfort zones and what it means to be a
'Daring Cardmaker'.
Who are the 'Daring Cardmakers'?
The blog (http://daringcardmakers.blogspot.
co.uk) started in 2OO6. A group of us we'd
'met' through craft forums saw that
scrapbookers were challenging each other to
make themed layouts and thought it would be
fun to 'dare' each other too.
How do you set challenges?
We are all about our strapline: 'Create, Inspire,
Share' having fun and pushing ourselves out
of our comfort zones. We take turns to set the
challenges and go with whatever ideas pop
into our heads. We have different styles and
use different techniques, so nd some dares
more of a challenge than others. If it were
always easy it would be boring, wouldn't it?

when you have blogged something new. I met

most of my online crafting buddies through
chat rooms. Enter challenges, but be selective:
don't hunt out challenges for every card you
make as these links can be rather tenuous.
How did you get in to card making?
My mum saw some handmade cards and
said "You could do better than that," so the
gauntlet was thrown down! That year I made
our Christmas cards. Looking back they were
pretty dire, but I was hooked and my cards are
better now.
Tell us about your Christmas cards
I don't start till late September. The bulk tend
to be quite simple so I can make little changes
with different colours or die-cuts. This way I
can make lots without boredom setting in!
Why did you choose the Jolly Santa range?
There was a really nice mix of modern and
traditional designs, giving scope for cute as
well as 'grown-up' cards. And you can't get
much better than Father Christmas and some
snowmen. I know I'll use a lot more - there's so
much to be made with this little lot!

Blog tutorial tips

1. Take a few photos at each
stage and choose the best ones
to use in your write up.
2. You may nd that folds show
up better on a different colours,
so have another version of your
project just in case.
3. Occasionally diagrams can be
easier to follow than photos, so
draw that particular step in a
graphics program.
4. Keep written instructions
short and clear. Long-winded
explanations can be confusing.
5. List any special equipment you
need at the start.

Is it a competition?
We are non-judgemental, so there are no
winners. We want everyone to feel equally
welcome whether they share the rst card
they've ever made or have been at it for years.
Occasionally sponsors send us things to use on
our projects and/or as prizes. We use a random
number to select a winner so everyone has
an equal chance of winning some goodies. We
are very proud that docrafts has sponsored us
several times.

We love

Have you any tips for online networking?

I would advise people to nd a group they
like to be part of: forum, Facebook group or
whatever else there is and let people know

Joly Santa rocker card and gift box

Rocker cards are fun to make and I love

crafting boxes, so the combination using
Jolly Santa papers and embellishments was
irresistible! The Xcut Extra Large Nesting
Circles and Pillow Box Die meant that both
projects were easy to make.
For the card front, fold a sheet of cardstock
in half then cut through both layers with a
large circle die, leaving half the fold intact. Use
different-sized circle dies to make the inner
frame and add punched circles as a scalloped
border, with layers of ribbon tucked between

the circles. Sit the decoupaged Santa part

under and part over the frame and add a
sentiment matted on a scalloped circle. Add a
bit of bling with glitter glue on Santas hat and
a few silvery gems from an Anitas gem wheel.
The pillow box is really dinky and wonderful
for small gifts such as jewellery or sweets.
Adhere the Jolly Santa paper to cardstock then
die-cut the pillow box and fold into shape. Mat
striped paper on red cardstock, wrap around
the box then fold paper into a rosette to cover
the join. Add a die-cut circle and a tag with a
ribbon bow to nish.

TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
Add a little magic with heat embossing

Heat embossing is a great way to add interest

to your makes, but sometimes it is easy to
forget that there are many different ways
to use this little tub of powder. Embossing
folders and ink pads can transform images into
something rather special, so why not challenge
yourself to have a go at one at one of these?
TIP Use scrap paper under your makes when
heat embossing to catch excess powder itll
be easier to tip it back in the tub.

PAINT... A SHADOW EFFECT

Cut a panel of Natures Gallery cardstock

to 1O.5 x 14.5cm and round the corners
using an Xcut Corner Punch. Place a butterfies
urban stamp in the centre of a clear stamp
block and dab with Artiste Clear Embossing Ink.
Press down frmly on the cardstock panel.

Before the ink dries, sprinkle seafoam

white embossing powder over the
stamped butterfies and then tap off excess.

Heat the powder with a heat tool,

moving gently backwards and
forwards over the image until the powder has
completely melted and is glossy and slightly
raised. Allow to cool.

Dab black dye ink on a clear stamp

block. Pick up a little ink with a wet
paint brush and paint a shadow effect around
the butterfies.

HEAT EMBOSS WITH CONFIDENCE

USE... PRESSURE EMBOSSING

Place a 15cm cardstock square in a mistletoe

frame embossing folder. Run through an
A4 Xpress machine to pressure emboss the image.

Cover the embossed square with clear

embossing ink then seafoam embossing
powder. Rub off the powder on the raised areas.

Heat with a heat tool until the powder has melted. Die cut a scalloped circle from
the centre then mat on silver mirror board and cardstock then layer on a card blank.
Embellish with a die-cut greeting, punched fowers and gems.

EMBOSS... STRIPES

Press the Youre So Special Craft Collection

urban stamp on a clear stamp block and
dab clear emboss pigment ink over the image.
Stamp on a small square of white cardstock,
ensuring the edges have been stamped.

Gently pour pink embossing powder in

stripes over the wet embossing ink. Repeat
to fll the gaps between the pink stripes with
enchanted gold embossing powder. Work quickly
before the embossing ink dries. There is no need to
be precise as the colours will melt into each other.

Tip off excess embossing powder and melt

using a heat tool. Allow to cool then trim.

Repeat the stripe embossing process on

Three ways with... Twine

T
Sarah Jackman Read
Morning makes

here are lots of gorgeous twines, bakers twine

and string available in many of the docrafts
collections, from Papermania Capsules and
Bare Basics to Forever Friends Classic Decadence.
While they are great for adding a little texture to
your makes, sometimes it is nice to stretch your
stash with new ways of using it. Here are three
ideas to get you started, so dig out your twine and
get creating.

Stamped panel

Twine is the perfect thickness and texture for

making a stamping block. Simply wrap lengths of
any bakers twine around a small acrylic block and
x in place at the back with a piece of craft tape.
Apply Artiste Metallic Silver Acrylic Paint to a spare
piece of cardstock and spread out. Gently place the
block in the paint to pick up paint on the twine then
stamp several times on spare cardstock to remove

any excess paint before stamping on

a black cardstock panel. Keep an even
pressure when stamping to make an
even design showing the texture. This
panel looks great as a backing panel for a
Forever Friends decoupage bear.

Embelishments

Papermania
Capsule Pastels
Bakers Twine
(PMA 1712O1) RRP 5.95

Fun twine embellishments are simple to

make and add a light-hearted element
to craft creations. For the centre of these
twine owers, die cut or punch a small
circle in kraft cardstock and apply a layer
of double-sided tape on top. Starting
from the outside, coil the twine on top of
the tape to make a wheel shape. To make
the petals, turn the kraft circle over and
add more double-sided tape. Make loops
from 6cm lengths of twine and attach
around the centre of the circle then
repeat with loops over the top made from
7cm lengths to form the ower shape.
Use as embellishments on a card, as a
topper on a gift or as an embellishment
on a scrapbook page.

Papermania
Denim Blue Twine
(PMA 1712O7) RRP 2.5O

3D frame

Frames wrapped in
twine are a great way
to add interest without
overshadowing a picture.
Die cut a square frame
from a cardboard box
using different sizes of
nesting dies for the inside
and outside of the frame,
then add two layers of
3D foam tape to the top.
Starting in one corner,
wrap twine around the
frame, wrapping diagonally
around the corners. Once
fully covered, secure the
twine ends at the back with
glue then add a square of
acetate behind the frame
aperture. Glue to a die-cut
cardboard square, gluing
around only three sides so
a photograph or sentiment
can be slotted in. Add a
loop of ribbon to the top
at the back to hang and a
matching bow to the front.

IN THE STUDIO

Sarah Jackman Read

One fun part of my job at docrafts
is being able to experiment with
different techniques and styles
and this clever interlocking card
is something I have wanted to try for some time.
It can be created easily with any nesting die set
and helps you to get the most out of your tools.
This card works perfectly with the Capsule
collections as the subtle colours and patterns let
the interlocking frame take centre stage.

Cut two 6 x 12.5cm French Lavender

panels and ink one long and the shorter
sides with an Artiste Lavender Pigment Ink
Pad. Mat on silver mirror board and then purple
cardstock to t the panels of a gatefold card.

Wrap purple ribbon across the centre of

each panel, gluing in place on the back.
Glue to the front of a gatefold card blank so the
edges without ink are in the centre.
