Welcome from Cliffwood School Council

With the start of a new school year, we'd like to welcome new and returning parents to Cliffwood!

What is the role of Cliffwood School Council?

Cliffwood School Council (previously called Cliffwood Parent Council) is composed of parents of students from
Cliffwood Public School. We are a volunteer-run organization that partners with Cliffwood Public School staff and
administration to advance our childrens learning experience:

We advocate on behalf of students and staff on critical school and community issues with the TDSB, as
well as municipal, provincial, and federal politicians
We fundraise to support specific school needs and provide opportunities for broader learning experiences
for our children
We communicate and disseminate information to our parent community to keep them informed of
activities, events and issues related to their childrens school and neighbourhood

What did we achieve in 2014-2015?

With your support and participation last year, we were able to allocate $31,000 (over $65 per student) to fund
multiple initiatives that enriched our children's learning opportunities, including:

Over $21,000 in classroom technology improvements, composed of iPads, projectors, laptops, and
supporting equipment
Classroom allowances for teachers to purchase necessary books and supplies for their classrooms
Anti-bullying workshops
Scientist in School programs
Lunch-time programs (Chess, Art, Science, Lego)

In addition, we lobbied our School Board Trustee and Superintendent to make headway against several important
issues for our children:

Allocation of a Vice-Principal to support our growing school

Commitment to responsibly manage growing enrollment across our English, French Immersion and
Extended French programs within the school's capacity

Options for installing partitions between open-concept classrooms

What do we want to achieve in 2015-2016?

We need to hear from YOU! As parents, you're the first people to hear about issues our children face.
It's through parents speaking up that we can prioritize where to put our funding and effort. It's your ongoing
engagement that ensures our Trustee and Superintendent address our concerns. And it's your volunteering that
makes our fundraising and lobbying efforts successful!

What can I do?

In many volunteer-run organizations, the 80/20 rule applies: 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. Help
us break the mold, and in the process, deliver some incredible results for our children!

process, or speak with the school office if you haven't received a copy
Put your name forward to sit on the School Council Executive Committee
Put your name forward to participate in a Sub-Committee for key issues (e.g. Fund Raising, Partitions)
Volunteer to coordinate or help with one of the many events and programs that wouldn't be possible
without parent volunteers
