BLUE GENE TYRANNY AND HIS EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC

Sumary of Gene's life

Robert Nathan Sheff more knows as Blue Gene Tyranny is a muscian and composer of
experimental music. He was born in January 1, 1945 in San Antonio Texas. He was adopted
for a business family that sells dress and clothes for ladies in our own shop.
In his chilhood Gene doesn't have a music environment, in his family anybody play musical
instruments but they enjoy the music. He stars to study piano in a private lessons at 12
yeards old, and this mean in his life to open a door for the professional music. His first teacher
miss Hertwig introduce him a other professor not only for piano lesson enough for compose
where he learned music theory, actually while his music education was with private lesson
because is the more confort and efficient way.
In the junior high school he founds the music environment necessary for to keep grown like
musician because the school have orchestras, chorus, march band and Gene can participate
like composer and conductor in this groups and at the same time he keep whit private
lessons and playing with the best local blues and rock bands.
Most of the people from San Antonio, Texas lift for this place when their grown up looking for
better oportunites in the studies and job. Gene is not an exception and he founds in Julliard's
auditions his purpose for lift looking for extend his knowledge but unfortunately or fortunately,
who knows, he doesn't found a place there because the teachers are conservatives and
traditionals music and their thoughts don't accept his advantgarde music conception.
For Gene is necessary to work since sixteen years old when he leaves from San Antonio
because his parents can't support he. He worked like pianist in rock,blues and jazz bands
making tours. Also work like composer for opera, dance and films and like a teacher.
Simultaneously he keep works in his compositions.

Experimental music
When I heard Country Boy Country Dog I remembered the sound soundscape theory by
Murray Schafer. It to consist in capture the sounds of the places and he discover sounds that
born and die for the human activity. For example the sounds of the cities are not the same
that the sounds of the woods. I found common ideas in the philosophy of both composer the
most important idea is capture the sounds of daily life. How sound the cars in the highway?
How sounds the child's laughter playing? How sounds the sing of the birds? The both
composers capture this natural sounds and make a piece of art whit this.
But this is not the only way for to make experimental music. In his composition Letter form

home Gene mix different sounds of acoustics,electronics music instruments and voices. The
voices are using not only for sing enough for spoken word.
Other element present in Gene's work is the use of not conventional music theory, he works
whit tonal, atonal and modal structures, enough he use the artificial scales this consist in
create new scale looking for new sensations and new harmony result of the scales.
The improvisation is another important element in his work because this act give the
possibility of create again and again the piece.
All his music was influenced or like he says his share the elements the other musics for
example in his formation like pianist he plays Beethoven, Shcuman, Debussy etc. and most
of the black music, south music like Delta's Blues or gospel.

Conclusions
For me like musician is important to open my mind for other ways for to make music and to
know that everything is valid, that exist new ways for to use the music theory, and exist other
music theory apart from conventional. Is important to know that the gender music is a
conviction, a pad way, and is reaffirm my convictions over other people and can see this in the
mirror of the life the others musicians.
