PROGRAM PLAN FOR MATH AND SCIENCE WEEK

Rationale:

In the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),


ones abilities can be developed through ones sense of awareness,
creativeness, inventiveness and critical thinking. The Math and Science week
celebration is organized to increase more understanding and awareness of
students as the importance of these subjects for the progress of economy
and society continues to increase through the years.
Given the proper guidance and direction, the students explore the ever
dynamic world of Science and Math. Thus, young boys and girls intense
curiosity will be challenged. Their scientific and mathematical skills will be
sharpened through the carefully prepared activities. These activities hope to
turn boys and girls into young Filipino scientists and mathematicians.

Objectives: Through the varied and carefully planned set of activities the students are
able to:
1. Develop awareness about latest trends in the field of math and science;
2. Arouse greater interest in discovering new ideas/concepts through the
different scientific and mathematical processes;
3. Discover for themselves explanations of common science and
mathematical concepts and phenomena;
4. Develop self-discipline;
5. Create and present simple inventions;
6. Share with other students new bits of scientific and mathematical
information;
7. Develop teamwork and cooperation; and
8. Develop initiative and resourcefulness.

MECHANICS FOR EGG DROP

For pupils from Grade 4-6


Elimination round will be done in the
classroom to choose the representative
to compete on the said category.
During the contest, each representative
will be given the concept or topic to be
formulated within minutes.
Each contestant will deliver his/her
formulated ideas in 5 minutes without
interruptions of long pauses.

For students from Grade 7-10


Each class must prepare an enclosed
structure to protect the egg from
breaking while it is dropped from a
certain height.
Materials will be prepared by the
students. There are no restrictions on
what they will use.
Each structure will be dropped from the
1st floor for the first try, 2nd try from the
2nd floor up to the 5th floor until there will
be declared winner.

Participants must use materials for the structure that are recyclable and earth
friendly.

MECHANICS FOR ESSAY WRITING

One representative from each class


Time allotment is one (1) hour
Contestants are required to bring one whole sheet yellow paper and back portion shall
NOT be utilized.
Composition must reach a minimum of 250 and a maximum of 300 words including
punctuations.
Failure to follow what is mentioned above will be disqualified.

In case of a tie, a CLINCHER round shall apply with three (3) points per item until a lone
winner for the First place is declared.
Coverage is First and Second Grading period.

MECHANICS FOR SLOGAN- WRITING

Time limit is 1 hour

Contestants are required to bring:

pilot ballpen, pencil, ruler, and craypas/crayons.


Prepared margins 1 all around, in tracing use my gel pen/pilot ball pen.
Free hand drawing shall apply. No curves and related materials shall be used.
Text must cover a maximum of seven (7) words including punctuations and marks.
It should start with an action verb and not gerunds.
Correct grammar shall likewise be observed.

MECHANICS FOR POSTER- MAKING

Time limit is 2 hours


Contestants are required to bring: 1 white cartolina, black pentel pen, my gel pen/pilot
ballpen, pencil, ruler and craypas/crayons
Prepared margins- 1 all around, in tracing use my gel pen/pilot ballpen and Not colored
pens
There shall be no text/s, words or phrase included in the poster.
The whole area inside the margin shall be filled completely with Cray-Pas including
spaces or areas intended to be white or transparent.
