Incumbent serves as JAG Job Specialist, and identifies, recruits, and instructs students deemed to have a high
degree of difficulty of being promoted into the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a
successful transition from school to work.
Duties:
Provides relevant and challenging classroom and work-based learning experiences for 35-45 participants who
are committed to developing their personal, leadership and employability skills to ensure graduation from high
school and positive post-graduate outcomes.
Outcomes are achieved through the attainment of 37 core competencies, involvement in the Career Association
and a support adult who helps overcome barriers to success. Provides a comprehensive program of classroom,
work-based and community-based activities designed to help students achieve 37 JAG competencies in six
clusters: Career Development, Job Survival, Basic Skills, Leadership, Self-Development and Personal Skills.
Places graduates in quality jobs (after graduation) that lead to a career in their chosen field or to guide the
graduate toward a post-secondary education that fits their career goal. After placement, the JAG Job Specialist
will be responsible for no less than monthly contact with graduates (and nongraduates) and no less than five
employer follow-up contacts over the 12-month follow-up period.
Provides assistance to the nongraduate to complete high school graduation requirements or a GED certificate
and provides graduate with employment, retention and advancement assistance during the 12-month follow-up
phase.
Establishes a positive rapport and working relationship with the school district and building administration,
faculty and staff. Works closely with the programs in-school advisory committee to identify and select those
students that need, want and can profit from participation in the JAG program.
Determines eligibility using local, JAG, state/federal (including WIA) regulations that impact the program.
Provides guidance, support, referral and tutorial services to ensure students stay in high school and complete
graduation requirements.
Works with Outreach Coordinator to ensure 20% of classroom activities per school year include guest speakers
and/or field trips to area businesses.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in social service, counseling, business education, or a related discipline is
preferred. Equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
DIFFICULTY OF WORK
Incumbents duties are broad in scope, involving many variables and considerations and requiring judgment in
conducting holistic assessment of applicants needs and, identifying and ensuring provision of appropriate
services. Incumbent applies state and federal regulations and agency policies and procedures to individual
cases.

RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent works independently while managing multiple priorities and establishes appropriate boundaries
while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students. Incumbent receives general work
instructions and guidance from supervisor, discussing unusual situations with supervisor as needed.
Incumbents work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Incumbent maintains frequent communication with co-workers, service agencies, training facilities, employers
and the public for purposes of exchanging information, interpreting and explaining policies and procedures,
promoting and delivering the JAG Model and counseling clients.
Incumbent reports directly to the Director of Operations and receives guidance from the Regional Program
Manager.

Incumbent performs duties in a classroom involving sitting and walking at will, sitting for long periods, hearing
sounds/communication, speaking clearly, close vision and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
