As far as we can remember, education is known to be the principal tool for the development of
societies since teachers, from any kind of education center, teach students not only skills but
also values, so I believe that the purpose of education should be to teach skills and also values
to shape children.
First off, we have to acknowledge that mainly children shape their personality through the
education in school since they spend many hours in such place, which is why it is important for
children to acquire not only knowledge about skills but also about values as respect, honesty,
among others. To illustrate, we can point out that most daily school class schedules are eight
hours for students and some hours are destinated to workshops that foster values in children.
Last but not least, if values are not foster in children since school, it would be more difficult
educate them when they grow up, so that it is important schools be aware about the values they
must inculcate.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely on the fact that if only skills were taught,
students would not know how to use them properly, so that chances might be high that science
students or others apply their knowledges for wrong purposes and it could cause some
disasters in the world. So, if anything, there are grounds to believe that it is important for
students not only receive an education based on skills but also an education in values.
Notwithstanding the above, values should be also teach by parents or family. Parents have the
responsibility to teach childrens the most important values. If parents do not educate well their
children, the effort done by schools will be wasted
In conclusion, the purpose of the education should be to teach values and skills so as to shape
good students and professionals and therefore it serves to shape a good world.
Nowadays, technology is known to be one of the most important invention in the last centuries
since helps people in different ways. People can communicate instantaneously with people in
every part in the world, can search any type of information and also can study from home or
other places, it does not matter where they are, however I consider classroom learning as
important since it has different advantages which I will explain in this passage.
First and foremost, we have to acknowledge that being in a special place to learn enhance the
students' concentration, besides usually it is easier for students solve their doubts rapidly since
the professor is in the same place and the communication is more fluent. To illustrate, we can
point out that if a student is at home or in a caf listening a class, it is easier he stop to pay
attention in order to see something happens in the street or watch tv or navigating in the
internet, on the contrary, classroom learning encourages students to focus on only pay
attention to the professor.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely on communication skills. When students are in a
classroom most of them have to interact not only with the professor but also with their
classmates given that sometimes they prefer to ask professor or they have to do some
assignments. It is very beneficial for them since enhance their communication skills and that is
crucial when they start to look for work.
Notwithstanding the above, distance learning or online computer classes can serve as a
support for classroom learning since some students find difficult to go to classrooms often
because of the distance or the schedule, and also they can find crucial information in the web
and not stop to study.
So, if anything, there are grounds to believe that although distance learning and online
computers classes are important tools for enhance the students' education it cannot replace
classroom learning since it has many advantages for students.
enough resources needed by its population, so it is necessary that resources will be obtained
through other countries which produce more.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely on the technological aspect, there are some
countries, mainly the richer countries, which are more interested in foster investigation in
people, develop technological advances, etc which is why such countries are named develop
countries. Chances are high that for other countries will be more difficult develop such
technological advances, so that it is easier and economical that the knowledge be shared and
countries have not to repeat the whole process. So, if anything, there are grounds to believe
that it is better for countries to engage other countries and establish good relationship with
the others.
Notwithstanding the above, some countries are afraid of this integration since it can have a
detrimental impact on their communities or resources. For example, some countries as Cuba or
Venezuela have set several barriers to the entrance of products from USA or another
countries mainly because it believe that the integration will have negative effects. However,
such countries are not completely isolated, but establish rules that help control the relationship
with the other countries.
In conclusion, it is not beneficial for countries to be isolated since they could not take advantage
of the technological advances or other resources. However, it is important that the government
of each country apply some rules to control the possibly detrimental effects of this integration.
relatives or parents, but when they decide what they really want they feel good and also they
become successful.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely on the fact that sometimes there are decisions
that are supported for most people, however sometimes those might not be the best decisions
because people can get wrong. Likewise, chances are high that if persons consider as
important the others opinion, they end up doing something that they do not enjoy and also they
will do wrong. So that the decision end up being a bad decision even with the popular support.
So, if anything, there are grounds to believe that it is not determinant to find out if the decision
will be popular with others.
Notwithstanding the above, when people are not sure about what decision make it, asking
friends, parents or teachers might help them form an idea about what might be the correct
decision. Therefore, somebodys opinion could help but not has to be determinant.
In conclusion, before making a decision there are more important facts to do than finding out if
the decision will be popular, however sometimes might be useful when people is not sure about
what to do.
Integrated essay
The reading states that bread is the first grain-based food and points out three related
discoveries that support its main idea. Conversely, in the lecture, the professor casts doubt on
the readings argument providing an alternative hypothesis which is that beer is the first grainbased food. Both, the professor and the reading illustrate their points which depict this
controversy.
First and foremost, the reading claims that due to the fact that wheat is very hard, ancient
people discovered that it was less trouble to eat if they grind it. However, in the lecture, the
professor explains that it was not necessary for ancient people grind to eat wheat since only
leaving wheat in the natural environment it startet to sprouting which is becoming sweeter, softer
and even more nutritious without effort.
In addition, while the reading states that baking the bread was another discovery which is likely
to have to the introduction of bread since requires no technology but only fire, the professor
casts doubt mentioning that in those days using fire to cook or improve food was not so
obvious. On the contrary, simple process used to be more used which is why beer is the first
grain food, because which turns grain into beer is the natural process of fermentation.
On the whole, while the reading points out that bread is the first based-grain food, the lecture
indicates that it was the beer.
Teachers are known to be very important in the process of students education. Likewise, it is
important that students have an active participation in such process so that it will enrich not only
teachers and students but also the society as a whole. For that reasons, I consider encouraging
students to question everything as an important duty for teachers.
First off, we have to acknowledge that in this day and age, students can get information from
many different sources like the internet, libraries, television, etc, but sometimes such information
can be distorted or even can be false which is why it is important for students to question about
such information, in that way they could evaluate if such information is truly or false. For
example, there are many websites where information is added by common users and
sometimes they do not confirm what they upload in the internet, if students do not question that
information they could considered as truly and make wrong conclusions, ruining the results of
their investigations or projects.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely in the fact that many important theories have
borne by questioning established theories that no one dared to refute, so that it is important that
teachers encourage their students so that new theories can be stated and there would be more
discoveries that help mankind in different aspects.
Notwithstanding the above, it should not be confused questioning with denying, if students did
not believe in anything, there would have not basis of nothing, it is important for students to start
from one point, so if they want to establish a theory, they have to have an starting point.
In conclusion, teachers should encourage their students to question everything not only to find if
some informations is true or false, but also to establish new theories and help mankind develop.
On the contrary, the reading states that the cause is environmental pollution. Both, the
professor and the reading illustrate their points which depicts this controversy.
First and foremost, the reading points out that not only otters are being affected by pollution, but
also others sea mammals, which usually happens when pollution is the reason of the declination
in population of some species. However, the professor casts doubt on the reading argument,
since he explains that although whales are prefered by orcas, they are being hunted by
humans, so that orcas only have the option to change their diet and hunt small animals like
seals, sea lions and sea otters.
In addition, while the reading remarks on the fact that the uneven pattern of otter popularion
decline is caused by ocean currents that create uneven concentrations of pollutants, the
professor mentions that places where otter population is not affected are places where orcas
cannot access because of the rocky locations. However, in accessible places for orcas, otter
population is declining.
On the whole, while the reading points out that the most likely cause for the population decline
of otter, the lecture indicates that it is the attacks by predators.
INTEGRATED 4D WORK
The reading states that the working four-day workweek policy would benefits employees and
companies and provide several reasons to support its arguments. On the contrary, in the lecture
the professor argues that the policy might have detrimental effects on employees and
companies.
First and foremost, the lecture remarks on the fact that if a company hire workers with a fourday workweek, its profits would increase since hiring more workers does not cause an increase
in payroll cost because only companies would pay employees 80 percent of the normal rate,
and also usually such employees would not make costly errors. However, the professor points
out that hiring more staff requires more office space and computers, so that it would not be
covered by the less salary paid.
Furthermore, the reading states that one of the benefits would be that unemployment rates
would be reduced and also the employees could have a better quality of life since they could
spend extra time with their families or do any activity. On the contrary, the professor mentions
that many companies expect that employees work overtime or do the same as someone who
works 5 days in a week so that employees quality of life would not be improved. Also, this mean
that not additional employment would be created and unemployment rates would be the same.
On the whole, while the reading points out that a policy requiring companies to offer their
employees the option of working a four.day workweek would be beneficial for companies,
employees and even for a country, the professor casts doubt on the arguments explained by the
reading and states that such policy would be detrimental.
INTEGRATED - ENDOTHERM
The reading argues that in spite of the believe that dinosaurs were not endotherms there are
three major evidences that demonstrated they were. On the contrary, the professor casts doubt
on the reading arguments and states that such evidences are not valid.
First and foremost, the reading claims that dinosaur fossils have been discovered in Polar
Regions and only endothermic animals could have lived in such cold climates. However, the
professor points out that Polar Regions were not so cold as nowadays, furthermore, when the
weather was too cold, dinosaurs migrated to warmer areas or hibernated.
In addition, according to the reading, the position of the legs underneath the body suggest that
dinosaurs were endotherm since endothermy allows sustained physical activity unlike
crocodiles and many lizards who do not run and do not have legs under the body but at the
bodys sides. Nevertheless, the professor explains that the function of legs under the body is
not only physical activity but also supporting weight, so the dinosaurs large legs were for
support weight not for running.
Finally, the reading points out that there is a strong connection between endothermy and
structure called haversian canals and such canals were found in the fossilized bones of
dinosaurs, however,
On the whole, while the reading states that dinosaurs were endotherms, the professor, in the
lecture, claim that the proofs provided by the reading are not sufficient.
In this day and age, cars are known to be the most popular means of transport. Although, many
countries are trying to reduce the numbers of cars, statistics support the fact that efforts made
by governments are not successful and the numbers of cars are increasing instead of reducing
it. I consider that in twenty years there will be more cars than there are today or at least there
will be the same as there are today.
First off, we have to acknowledge that one way to reduce the number of cars is improving the
public transportation. It would encourage people to use buses due to the advantages as the low
tariff cost in comparison with the cost of gasoline. However, in many countries the public
transportation is really bad and it is very difficult improve it, there are few buses and also the
routes are very crowded, so that people who use it usually travel in bad conditions and most of
them prefer to travel in their own cars, which is why the number of cars is increasing.
Another argument is one that focuses precisely on the fact that although in many countries
people would prefer to use bicycles they cannot since streets are not being prepared for people
can ride bicycles without any problem. To illustrate, we can point out that in some places is very
dangerous ride a bicycle in heavily congested avenues, since people who drive do not respect
cyclist, besides there are not established routes for them. As a consequence of such troubles
people prefer to buy their own car and drive safely.
In conclusion, there are grounds to believe that in twenty years there will be more cars than
today since the public transportation is bad and also use others transport means is difficult in
many countries.
The reading states that there are three competing theories which could explain how the
buildings of Chaco Canyon were used. However, in the lecture, the professor casts doubt on
such theories. Both, the professor and the reading illustrate their points which depicts this
controversy.
First and foremost, the reading claims that one theory holds that the Chaco structures were
residental since similar versions of such architecture can be seen in New Mexico. However, the
professor explains that if Chaco had been residential, it would have had more fire places around
and not only ten.
Additionally, according to the reading given that the main crop of Chaco people was grain maize
they had to stored in some place and the size of Chaco structure were ideal and were suitable
for that purpose. Nevertheless, the professor argues that such theory provide unsupported
evidence since excavation did not find enough maze containers to prove the theory.
Furthermore, the third theory mentioned in the reading states that houses were used as
ceremonial centers. Such theory is supported by the fact that pots were found which means that
ceremonies where people usually eat and then discarded the pots were made in Chaco
structures. The professor casts doubt on that theory, he explains that many types of material
were found and among them were the pots, so that it does not mean anything, the professor
argues that pots could have been just regular trash of constructor workers.
On the whole, while the reading states three possible theories that explain the use of chaco
canyon, the lecture casts doubt on every theory arguing others facts.
encyclopedias are written by experts, however, the professor disagree, he explains that printed
encyclopedia has errors also, and additionally the errors remain for years since it is difficult
modify it.
Furthermore, the reading states that can be malicious people who change accurate information
for wrong information since communal online encyclopedias allows change information.
Nevertheless, the professor remarks on the fact that have been implemented two measures to
prevent such events. The first one is people are not allow to change crucial information, the
second one is that there are special editors who monitor information when is changed.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that communal encyclopedias focus in topics that are
not very important and also create false impression of the topics importance. Conversely, the
professor points out that academic topics are present in communal online encyclopedias
together with trivial topics since there is not limited space.
On the whole, while reading stated that traditional encyclopedias are better than communal
online and provide its reasons, the professor casts doubt on the veracity of the reasons.
Nowadays, we live in a very competitive world where money is very important, so that people
have to work harder and try to be indispensable to live well and in a good economic situation, so
that I believe that people spend time on studying or working rather than on personal enjoyment.
First off, we have to acknowledge that in this day and age it is not easy find a good pay job,
which is why people have to be more prepared so as to get a good job in the future. To illustrate,
we can point out that it is common for young people to study a master or others diplomas that
can establish a difference between them and the rest of population. Last but not least,
companies required everytime more qualifications to hire an employee since the supply is
greater than before.
Another argument is one that focus precisely on the worlds difficult economic situation. In most
countries the unemployment rates are increasing, so that there is not time to people for doing
personal enjoyment given that they have to work more since nowaday the chances of being
fired are high. So, if anything, there are grounds to believe that people have not too much time
to do personal things because they would have to do things that assure their jobs or positions.
Notwithstanding the above, older people usually spend more time on personal enjoyment, since
the majority of them are not working and also they are already retired.
In conclusion, I consider that nowadays people spend more time doing things they should do,
because of the economic situation, than personal enjoyment. However, for older people it can
be different since most of them are retired and have more free time.
KAPLAN INTEGRATED 1
While the professor mentions the problems with the core curriculum which was found in a focus
groups with students in the university, the reading states the advantages of a core curriculum.
Both the reading and the professor illustrate their points which depicts this controversy.
First and foremost, the professor explains that have been found that some courses of the core
curriculum are too easy or irrelevant for students, so that, according to the lecture, such courses
do not help students develop their skills in different areas. The professor suggest adressing the
problem by replacing such courses or restructuring them.
Furthermore, the professor remarks on the fact that university should provide students with
guidance, professors have to advice students about what courses are more suitable for their
majors. It could be beneficial for stuents since it give then the opportunity to discover skills that
they can apply across their career, as the reading mentions.
Additionaly, the professor claims that some size classes are too big, and so that student cannot
take advantage of a well core curricula.
On the whole, the professor mentions the problems about core curriculum while the reading
states the meaningful roleplay of a suitable structure of core curriculum.
In conclusion, it is better marry someone who is similar to you than marry someone who is
different since the time shared could be more and also solving problems could be easier.
KAPLAN INTEGRATED 2.
The reading states that smoking bans affects the rights of smoker persons, on the contrary, the
professor claims that smoking bans does not erose their freedom. Both the reading and the
professor illustrate their points which depicts this controversy.
Both the reading and the professor illustrate their points which depicts this controversy.
First and foremost, the reading argues that smokers assume risks of cigarrete smoking just as
other people assume other health risk, so smoker have rigth to choose whatever they want;
however, the professor remarks on the fact that smokers are addicted, most smokers want to
quit the cigarrette but they can not. So that smoking bans could help people quit the cigarette.
Furthermore, the reading points out that if it takes at least 20 years for direct smokers to develor
cancer, it would have take longer than a lifetime to develope cancer to secondhand smokers,
nevertheless, the professor mentions that in a state where ban smoking was hold heart attacks
decrease in 40%, so that such policies have positive effects on people.
Finally, the reading states that freedoms and economic position of bussiness owner are affected
since they have to invest on implementation of requirement made for politician as ventilation
system. However, the professor states that business cannot make money hurting people.
On the whole, while the reading states that smoking bans affect not only smokers right but also
businesses and emploexaminedyees, the professor defends his postion holding that such
policies are necessary for society.
INTEGRATED FOSSILS
The reading states that the growing sale of fossils to private owners is an unfortunate
development for both scientists and the general public since has many disadvantages for them.
On the contrary, the professor mentions that it can be a negative situation but the reading is
exaggerating. Both the reading and the professor illustrate their points which depicts this
controversy.
First and foremost, the reading mentions that the selling of fossils to private collectors can lead
to a decline in public interest in fossils since private collectors do not allow the public to view
their collections. However, the professor claims that it is not true since fossils can be bought by
universities or schools too and also commercial fossils are more exposed.
Furthermore, the reading explains that scientists are likely to lose access to most important
fossils since private buyers acquire them; nevertheless, the professor remarks on the fact that
private usually make the fossils be examined by experts for assure their validity and originality
which is why the fossils pass first for an expert.
Finally, while the reading suggest that commercial fossil collectors can destroy valuable
scientific evidence due to the fact that they are not experts and does not care how find the
fossils or the position, the professor argues that it is better fossil can be found than remain
buried and undiscovered.
On the whole, while the reading describe the disadvantages of private collectors buy fossils, the
professor holds that the reading is exaggerating and it is not so detrimental for people or
scientists.
