Hello everyone, this is the final newsletter for term 3. The last couple of weeks have continued to be
filled with exciting events that have been a lot of fun for everyone at Mount Lockyer.

Last Thursday week the School Choir performed at the Albany Entertainment Centre to a capacity

Last week Year 5/6 girls competed in the Albany Dockers Cup Football competition, all I can say is
watch out boys! They won every single game and brought home the trophy. Congratulations and
thanks to Mr Swann for training the champion team.
On 17 September, through the coordination of Caitlin Goldsmith, Year 3 teacher, the whole school
participated in The Great Aussie Crunch. This earmarked the 26th year of Fruit & Veg September in
schools. The aim of Fruit and Veg September is to raise awareness and develop healthy eating
habits to prevent the risk of chronic disease later in life. We combined Fruit and Veg Week with Zero
Waste Lunch.
Many thanks to the Waste Wise team for helping to facilitate the event. Additionally, we would like to
thank Woolworths for donating a huge box of fruit and vegetables and families for providing children
with Fruit and Veg to crunch for the event, but most importantly continuing to do this in order to
develop habits of healthy eating. To support, Mrs Goldsmith has put up a display board near the
yellow door as you enter the school from the staff car park, of healthy lunchbox ideas and a photo
record of what is happening in our School Vegetable Garden.
WA Education Awards: Yesterday we received notification that Mount Lockyer Primary School has
been shortlisted as one of four finalist schools for Aboriginal Education in the WA Education Awards.
It is indeed a great honour to have made it to this level of the awards. Next term, 19 October,
Director Aboriginal Education Jacqueline McGowan-Jones and Judi Block will visit our school in the
process of making the final judgement on which of the four schools will take out the overall honour.
Finally, I hope everyone has a restful, happy and safe holiday. Remember school commences
Monday 12 October; there is no Pupil Free Day beginning of fourth term.
Over the page is an extract from a piece of writing by Tahnaya Puls, Year 6 Room 14, enjoy.

Ahn Do- Migrant Report by Tahnaya Puls Room 14

Migrants
A migrant is a person who has left their home town to seek
a better life. People leave their home country in fear of persecution, to make a new life, get better health, disagreeing
with the government, dangerous conditions and environmental reasons. Most refugees flee to Australia and leave
from a dangerous country or horrible conditions.
Anh Do Early Life
Anh Do was born in Vietnam on 2 nd June 1977. He lived in
a 3 room house with fourteen other people. It was only a
wooden straw house and the fourteen other people were all
family.
Family Life
Anh Do lived with his Mums half of the family. His mother
Hien Do, his father Tam Do, his brother Khoa Do, who was
almost thrown overboard by pirates and his wife Suzanne
Do.
Education
Anh did not go to school in Vietnam, as he was only two,
but in Australia he went to a secondary school called Saint
Aloysius College. He left school at the age of thirteen, so
he could help his family because they had no money when
his Dad died. He then went to University and studied a degree in Law and Business.

SCHOOL BANKING
Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic Light
Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a decision has
been made to also withdraw the upcoming Lunar Light Band
reward from the School Banking Rewards Program.
To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item available
for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last. Students can now
test their skills with a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy
Glider!
Once students have collected 10 tokens, they can simply
include a note, along with their 10 tokens in their deposit
wallet on banking day to advise that they would like to redeem
their tokens for the Galaxy Glider reward item.
Dont forget the Outer Space Savers Money Box is also
available in Term 4.
LAP A THON
The P+C is working with Mr Swann to run a Lap-a-thon during
Term 4 (Week 2). All students will participate in the actual Lap
-a-thon, but parents have the option of allowing their child to
participate in gaining sponsorship to fundraise for the sports
programme. If you want to gain sponsors (and rewards) return
the permission slip to the office and a sponsorship form will be
provided to your student.

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2

STEP 3

Class.
STEP 4

Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
