Paint.NET is a freeware raster graphics editing program for Microsoft Windows, developed on
the .NET Framework. Originally created as a Washington State University student project,[3] Paint.NET
has evolved from a simple replacement for the Microsoft Paintprogram, which is included with Windows,
into a powerful editor with support for layers, blending, transparency, and plugins.

Overview
Paint.NET is primarily programmed in the C# programming language, with small
amounts ofC++ used for installation and shell-integration related functionality. Its
native image format,.PDN, is a compressed representation of the application's
internal object format, which preserves layering and other information.[4] Excluding
the installer, text, and graphics, Paint.NET is released under a modified version of
the MIT-like License.[5] It was initially released as completely open source, but due to
breaches of license, all resource files (such as interface text and icons) were
released under a Creative Commons license forbidding modification, and the
installer was made closed-source

Features

Internet Explorer has been designed to view a broad range of web pages and to
provide certain features within the operating system, includingMicrosoft Update. During the heyday of
the browser wars, Internet Explorer superseded Netscape only when it caught up technologically to
support the progressive features of the time

Usability and accessibility

The "quick tabs" feature available inInternet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer makes use of the accessibility framework provided in Windows. Internet Explorer is
also a user interface for FTP, with operations similar to that of Windows Explorer (although this feature
requires a shell window to be opened in recent versions of the browser, rather than natively within the
browser). Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not supported, but available via extension (iMacros).
Recent versions feature pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing. Tabbed browsing can also be added to
older versions by installing Microsoft's MSN Search Toolbar or Yahoo's Yahoo Toolba

standards support

Internet Explorer, using the Trident layout engine:

supports HTML 4.01, CSS Level 1, XML 1.0 and DOM Level 1, with minor implementation gaps.

fully supports XSLT 1.0 as well as an obsolete Microsoft dialect of XSLT often referred to as WD-xsl,
which was loosely based on the December 1998 W3C Working Draft of XSL. Support for XSLT 2.0 lies in
the future: semi-official Microsoft bloggers have indicated that development is underway, but no dates
have been announced.

partially supports CSS Level 2 and DOM Level 2, with major implementation gaps and conformance
issues. Almost full conformance to CSS 2.1 has been added in the Internet Explorer 8 release.[48][49]

does not support XHTML, though it can render XHTML documents authored with HTML compatibility
principles and served with atext/html MIME-type.

does not support SVG, in any version but will in Version 9[50].

Internet Explorer uses DOCTYPE sniffing to choose between standards mode and a "quirks mode" in
which it deliberately mimicks nonstandard behaviors of old versions of MSIE for HTML and CSS
rendering on screen (Internet Explorer always uses standards mode for printing). It also provides its
own dialect of ECMAScript called JScript.

Internet Explorer has been subjected to criticism over its limited support for open web standards

The Adobe Flash Player is software for viewing animations and movies using computer programs
such as a web browser. Flash player is a widely distributed proprietary multimedia and application
player created by Macromedia and now developed and distributed by Adobe after its acquisition. Flash
Player runs SWF files that can be created by the Adobe Flash authoring tool, by Adobe Flexor by a
number of other Macromedia and third party tools.

Adobe Flash, or simply Flash, refers to both a multimedia authoring program and the Adobe Flash
Player, written and distributed by Adobe, that uses vector and raster graphics, a native scripting
language called ActionScript and bidirectional streaming of video and audio. Strictly speaking, Adobe
Flash is the authoring environment and Flash Player is the virtual machine used to run the Flash files,
but in colloquial language these have become mixed: "Flash" can mean either the authoring
environment, the player, or the application files.

Flash Player has support for an embedded scripting language called ActionScript (AS), which is based
on ECMAScript. Since its inception, ActionScript has matured from a script syntax without variables to
one that supports object-oriented code, and may now be compared in capability toJavaScript (another
ECMAScript-based scripting language).

The Flash Player was originally designed to display 2-dimensional vector animation, but has since
become suitable for creating rich Internet applications and streaming video and audio. It uses vector
graphics to minimize file size and create files that save bandwidth and loading time. Flash is a
common format for games, animations, and GUIs embedded into web pages
Antivirus software
"Antivirus" redirects here. For antiviral medication, see Antiviral drug.

Endpoint antivirus software developed bySymantec

Antivirus (or anti-virus) software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including
computer, worms, and Trojan horses. Such programs may also prevent and remove adware, spyware,
and other forms of malware.

A variety of strategies are typically employed. Signature-based detection involves searching for known
malicious patterns in executable code. However, it is possible for a user to be infected with new malware
for which no signature exists yet. To counter such so-called threats, heuristics can be used. One type of
heuristic approach, generic signatures, can identify new viruses or variants of existing viruses by looking
for known malicious code (or slight variations of such code) in files. Some antivirus software can also
predict what a file will do if opened/run by emulating it in asandbox and analyzing what it does to see if it
performs any malicious actions. If it does, this could mean the file is malicious.

However, no matter how useful antivirus software is, it can sometimes have drawbacks. Antivirus
software can degrade computer performance if it is not designed efficiently. Inexperienced users may
have trouble understanding the prompts and decisions that antivirus software presents them with. An
incorrect decision may lead to a security breach. If the antivirus software employs heuristic detection (of
any kind), success depends on achieving the right balance between false positives and false negatives.
False positives can be as destructive as false negatives. In one case, a faulty virus signature issued
by Symantec mistakenly removed essential operating system files, leaving thousands of PCs unable
to boot.[1] Finally, antivirus software generally runs at the highly trusted kernel level of the operating
system, creating a potential avenue of attack.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Office Excel 2007

Microsoft Excel

 Support up to 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns (XFD) in a single worksheet, with 32,767
characters in a single cell (17,179,869,184 cells in a worksheet, 562,932,773,552,128 characters in a
worksheet)[43]

 Conditional Formatting introduces support for three new features — Color Scales, Icon Sets and Data
Bars

 Color Scales, which automatically color the background of a group of cells with different colors
according to the values.

 Icon sets, which precede the text in a cell with an icon that represent some aspect of the value of
the cell with respect to other values in a group of cells, can also be applied. Icons can be
conditionally applied to show up only when certain criteria are met, such as a cross showing up
on an invalid value, where the condition for invalidity can be specified by the user.

 Data Bars show as a gradient bar in the background of a cell the contribution of the cell value in
the group.

 Column titles can optionally show options to control the layout of the column.
 Multithreaded calculation of formulae, to speed up large calculations, especially on multi-core/multi-
processor systems.

 User Defined Functions (UDF), which are custom functions written to supplement Excel's set of built-
in functions, supports the increased number of cells and columns. UDFs now can also be
multithreaded. Server side UDFs are based on the .NET Managed code.

 Importing data from external sources, such as a database, has been upgraded. Data can also be
imported from formatted tables and reports, which do not have a regular grid structure.

 Formula Auto complete, automatically suggests function names, arguments and named ranges, and
automatically completing them if desired, based on the characters entered. Formulae can refer to a
table as well.

 CUBE functions which allow importing data, including set aggregated data, from data analysis
services, such as SQL Server Analysis Services.

 Page Layout view, to author spreadsheets in a way that mirrors the formatting that will be applied
when printed.

 PivotTables, which are used to create analysis reports out of sets of data, can now support
hierarchical data by displaying a row in the table with a "+" icon, which, when clicked, shows more
rows regarding it, which can also be hierarchical. PivotTables can also be sorted and filtered
independently, and conditional formatting used to highlight trends in the data.

 Filters, now includes a Quick filter option allowing the selection of multiple items from a drop down list
of items in the column. The option to filter based on color has been added to the choices available.

 Excel features a new charting engine, which supports advanced formatting, including 3D rendering,
transparencies and shadows. Chart layouts can also be customized to highlight various trends in the
data.
Microsoft Office Outlook

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

 As a major change in Outlook 2007, Exchange 5.5 support has been dropped. Like Evolution,Outlook
Express and Entourage, Outlook now works only with Exchange 2000 and above.

 Outlook now indexes[42] (using the Windows Search APIs) the e-mails, contacts, tasks, calendar
entries, RSS feeds and other items, to speed up searches. As such, it features word-wheeled search,
which displays results as characters are being typed in.

 Search folders, which are saved searches, have been updated to include RSS feeds as well. Search
folders can be created with a specific search criteria, specifying the subject, type and other attributes
of the information being searched. When a search folder is opened, all matching items for the search
are automatically retrieved and grouped up.

 Outlook now supports text-messages and SMSs, when used in conjunction with Exchange Server
2007 Unified Messaging.

 Outlook includes a reader for RSS feeds, which used the Windows Common Feeds Store. RSS
subscription URLs can be shared via e-mails. RSS feed updates can also be pushed to a mobile
device.

 Outlook can now support multiple calendars being worked with, simultaneously. It also includes a
side-by-side view for calendars, where each calendar is displayed in a different tab, and allows easy
comparison of them. Outlook also supports web calendars. Calendars can be shared with other
users.

 Calendar view shows which tasks are due.

 Flagged e-mails and notes can also be converted to Task items.

 Outlook includes a To Do Bar, which integrates the calendar, appointments and tasks items, in a
concise view.

 Online or offline editing of all Microsoft Office 2007 documents via a SharePoint site. All edits are
automatically synchronized.

 Contacts can be shared among users, via e-mail, Exchange Server or a SharePoint site.

 Attachment preview allows users to view Office e-mail attachments in the reading pane rather than
having to open another program.

 HTML in e-mails is now rendered using the Microsoft Word rendering engine which disallows several
HTML tags like object, script, iframeetc along with several CSS properties.

Microsoft Office Outlook can also include an optional Business Contact Manager (included on a separate
installation disc in Office 2007 Small Business and above) which allows management of business
contacts and their sales and marketing activities. Phone calls, e-mails, appointments, notes and other
business metrics can be managed for each contact. It can also keep a track of billable time for each
contact on the Outlook Calendar. Based on these data, a consolidated report view can be generated by
Microsoft Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager. The data can be further analyzed using
Microsoft Office Excel. This data can also be shared using SharePoint Services.

Skype allows users to communicate by both voice and more traditional IM-instant messaging. Voice chat
allows both calling a single user and conference calling. It uses a proprietary audio codec. Skype's text
chat client allows group chats, emoticons, storing chat history, offline messaging and (in recent versions)
editing of previous messages. The usual gamut of features familiar to instant messaging users - such as
user profiles, online status indicators, and so on - is also included.

SkypeIn allows Skype users to receive calls on their computers dialed by regular phone subscribers to a
local Skype phone number; local numbers are available for Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark,
the Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong
Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, South Africa, South
Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, theNetherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.[12][13] A Skype
user can have local numbers in any of these countries, with calls to the number charged at the same rate
as calls to fixed lines in the country. Some jurisdictions, including France, Germany and South Africa,
forbid the registration of their telephone numbers to anyone without a physical presence or residency in
the country.[citation needed].

Video conferencing between two users was introduced in January 2006 for the Windows and Mac OS
X platform clients. Skype 2.0 for Linux, released on March 13, 2008, also features support for video
conferencing.[14]

Skype for Windows, starting with version 3.6.0.216, supports "High Quality Video" with quality and
features, e.g., full-screen and screen-in-screen modes, similar to those of mid-range videoconferencing
systems.[15] Skype audio conferences currently support up to 25 people at a time, including the host.

A discontinued feature called "Skypecasting" allowed recordings of Skype voice over IP voice calls
and teleconferences to be used aspodcasts, which allow audio or video content to be syndicated over the
Internet. Skype launched its "Skypecasts Beta" service in 2006. It remained in beta until its end.
Skypecasts hosted public conference calls, up to 100 people at a time. Unlike ordinary Skype p2p
conference calls, Skypecasts supported moderation features suitable for panel discussions, lectures, and
town hall forums. Skype operated a directory of public Skypecasts. On August 26, 2008, Skype
announced that Skypecasts would be discontinued beginning September 1, 2008.[16]Skypecasts were
shut down without any concrete explanation on 1 September 2008 at 12:00 UTC. In late 2009 the
company, Skype for Power Gamers (S4PG), announced that in Q2 2010 it would be releasing both a
client and server Skype Add-on that will enable Skype end-users to host their own "Skypecast-like" auto-
conference rooms.

Skype does not provide the ability to call emergency numbers such as 911 in the United States and
Canada, 000 in Australia, 112 in Europe, or 999 in the UK.[17] The FCC has ruled that, for the purposes of
section 255 of the Telecommunications Act, Skype is not an "interconnected VoIP provider".[18] As a
result, the U.S. National Emergency Number Association recommends that all VoIP users have an analog
line available as a backu
