Ql

c:

(a) A network has five nodes A, B,

D and E. Between the nodes the elements are connected as described
below.
Branch AB has a resistance of 200 fl; branches BC, CD and DA of the bridge have equal values o.t
res}st9rs of 300~0 each; branches CE & DE( node E is insidc"'thc loop AI3CD) also have equal values of
resistor of 300 n each; A non-linear resistance RL = 620 e-(.Olv) n is connected between the nodes B
and E where vis the voltage across RL in volts; A direct current source of Is amperes with the current
direction towards A is connected between A & C.
Draw the circuit diagram and determine the source current Is for delivering maximum power to RL
Calculate maximum power transferred to the load resistance and the power supplied by the source at
that condition.
[10]
(b) In the circuit shown in Figure 1, calculate the steady state current h flowing through the load resistance
RL = 3 n indicating the directions and magnitudes of the currents due to each source.

(b) I.n the circuit shown in Figure 3, a single phase 100 V, 50 Hz ac source is connected across the parallel
combination of R- L and R- C elements. An ideal wattmeter with current coil terminals M & L and
pressure coil terminals V 1 and V 2 is also connected in the circuit as shown. Calculate the value of R
for which the wattmeter reading will be maximum.

Q3 (a) A series circuit with R = 5 n, C = .20 pF and a variable inductance L is supplied with a voltage of
100 Loo V, at an angular frequency of 1000 rad/sec. Value of Lis adjusted until the voltage across the
resistor is maximum. Under this condition, calculate the voltage across each" element.

In the network shown in Figure 4, load impedance ZL is variable in both its resistance and reactance
values. What shouJd be the value of ZL so that it will receive maximum real power. Also calculate the
value of the maximum power.

(a) A 3-phaso balanced supply is connected to a balanced 6. connected load with 0.6 power factor (Jagging)
as detailed in Figure 7. It is observed that the wattmeter reads 2.4 kW. Calculate,
(i) the parameters of the load impedance ZL

(iv) Draw the phasor diagram showing all line and phase voltages and currents.
[3]
(b) What should be the choice of Z that must be connected across the terminals R-Y, Y-B and il-R to
