Workshop 2: Research Results (Ethics Questionnaire)

Form 4 groups according to the instructions given. Move to the appropriate areas, according
to instructions given. (5 mins approx.)
Task 1 for Group1
During the presentation of the analysis results

significant difference was found between the expected and the counted values of the
answers of students from different countries in question 1.1 about Plagiarism. The question
was:
1.1 What do you think that Plagiarism means?
I have never heard of it
You copy someone elses work entirely but call it your own
You use someone elses work but change it in many ways to fit your own purpose
You create something but make it look like it was made by someone else
Firstly try to value the answers according to your knowledge, by giving 0 the the worst and 3
to the best answer. Discuss the matter as a team, if needed ask for help from your teachers,
try to justify your choice. (15 mins approx.).
The best answers were given by students from Poland and Sweden, average answers were
given by students from Norway and Greece and less right answers from students from
Austria (X2 =34.602, df=4, p=.000). In fact, the average score was 0,712, for Poland and
Sweden 0,879, for Norway 0,739, for Greece 0,615 and for Austria 0,535.
Discuss the matter as a team, if needed with the help of your teachers and try to figure out if
you can find reasons for this difference. For example it could be related to culture
differences, or information policy of the country of the school, for example special activities
that took place in some schools/countries, or incidents that happened in the region, or some
other. (25 mins approx.).
Task 2 for Group2

significant difference was found between the expected and the counted values of the
answers of students from different countries in question 1.3 about distinguishing Rights from
Responsibilities. The question was the following:

responsibility:

1.3[Ownership/Authorship]

Firstly try to answer the question as a team, if needed ask for help from your teachers, or
use the internet to find information, try to justify your choice. (15 mins approx.).
The best answers were given by students from Poland and Austria, average answers by
students from Greece and less right answers from Norway and Sweden (X2 =96.273, df=68,
p=.014). In fact, the average score was 2,527, for Poland 4,5, for Austria 3,777, for Greece
3,313, for Norway 1,644 and for Sweden 1,636.

you can find reasons for this difference. For example it could be related to different laws, or
culture differences, or information policy of the country of the school, for example special
activities that took place in some schools/countries, or incidents that happened in the region,

Task 3 for Group3


During the presentation of the analysis results

significant difference was found between the expected and the counted values of the
answers of students from different countries in question 3.1 about how to act when your
rights are violated. The question was the following:
3.1 Someone has posted a photograph of you from a party last weekend onto a
public profile. You are lying on the floor with an empty bottle of vodka next to you.
Over 50 people have commented on the photo, what should you do?
3.1[Nothing, you werent drinking, your friends had set the photo up ]
3.1[Contact the person who uploaded the photo and ask him/her to remove it ]
3.1[Contact the site administrator and insist that the photo be removed it must surely
break the terms and conditions anyway ]
3.1[Youve got some interesting photos of the friend who uploaded the offending photo,
post that and ensure that everyone knows it is there]

In fact, the average score was 3,883, for Austria 9,75, for Poland 5,6, for Greece 4,352, for
Sweden 3,462 and for Norway 2,132.
Discuss the matter as a team, if needed with the help of your teachers and try to figure out if
you can find reasons for this difference. For example it could be related to culture
differences, in differences in ways of doing things, or information policy of the country of the
school, for example special activities that took place in some schools/countries, or incidents
that happened in the region, or some other. (25 mins approx.).

Task 4 for Group4


During the presentation of the analysis results

significant difference was found between the expected and the counted values of the
answers of students from different countries in question 3.2 about how to act when your
friend has violated someones rights. The question was the following:
3.2 A friend of yours admits having published parts of some other website in his
own blog, without the proper referal. What do you do?
I explain to him/her about what should be done. If he/she does n't act, I talk about it with a
teacher/expert, ask for advice.
Nothing. No problem at all.
I inform the other website owner. He/she is violating his rights.
I inform the police. He/she is violating the law.

In fact, the average score was 0,312, for Austria 0,395, for Greece 0,385, for Poland 0,348,
for Sweden 0,224 and for Norway 0,218.

you can find reasons for this difference. For example it could be related to culture
differences, in differences in ways of doing things, or information policy of the country of the
school, for example special activities that took place in some schools/countries, or incidents
that happened in the region, or some other. (25 mins approx.).

Task 5 for all groups


Create a small powerpoint or google presentation (such as
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1OC_Ci8aicEdtqyUPNqsCNJEYIVvhd8e2_NO9b-qWYc/edit?usp=sharing ) with the information and the results of the task of your team. Add
this presentation as an item in the www.sifaplus.eu site, if needed with the help of your
teacehrs (20 mins approx.). This will be presented later on, each member of the team must
take part in the presentation of these results.
