Christians…

there are no atheists

In March 9, 2009 ARIS (American Religious Identification Survey) released a report
claiming that there are 34.2 million Americans (15%) who claim no religion which refers to
unspoken Atheists. This is double from the previous survey they reported in 2001.

Based on the report and other surveys from different organizations the people that are
claiming to be Atheists are growing. But the claim according to the word of God is false. Indeed,
there is no such thing as an Atheist.

One mistake that Christians make when they confront an individual claiming to be an
Atheist is they start to argue. Atheists fuel on this argument and many of them have developed
an intellectual skill on how to defend their position at a higher level.

The Bible teaches us that we need to be prepared to give an answer to anyone who
questions you for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15) How
exactly do we do this? A closer look at verse 15, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as
Holy. “ The KJV puts it in these words, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.” First and
foremost we need to be diligent students of the word of God. We need to constantly flood our
minds with God’s word. We need to memorize God’s word.

Secondly, when confronted with someone claiming to be an Atheist. Your authority to

defend yourself is not you but only the word of God. The word of God is the authority and needs
to be in every discussion with an Atheist and I believe in every part of your life as well. Even if
the Atheist claims that the scriptures is not ground for evidence. It still must be used because it
is the authority.

Thirdly, the Bible teaches us that there are no Atheists. (Romans 1:18-23) One may claim
to be an Atheist, one may try to persuade themselves into thinking that they are, one may
convince themselves that they are, and one may tell everyone that they are. But the scriptures
teach us that everyone knows just enough about God to be hostile towards him. Everyone
knows enough about the truth about God to seek to suppress it. And their hearts and minds are
screaming “God” to them. And they are doing everything in their power to run away from that.

Instead of arguing with Atheists about God we need to proclaim God to them. They are
not the authority. The word of God is the only authority. And we need to proclaim the word of
God to them and proclaim that Jesus Christ is their Lord.
